Star Trek Worf: The First Duty, a six-part fan series

"I'm tired of waiting on Paramount to make some of the Star Trek stories I actually want to see. So, I'm making one myself." That project is Star Trek Worf: The First Duty, my six episode fan series about a younger Worf fresh out of Starfleet Academy. It's an unofficial fan story, my own take on a chapter of his life I've always wanted to explore.

There are whole chapters of these characters' lives that we've barely touched. What was Data's life like before he joined the Enterprise? What was Worf like at Starfleet Academy? What happened on his first assignments, before he became the guy standing behind Picard recommending that we fire phasers at whatever just appeared on the view screen? I keep thinking you could take one of those chapters, build a focused story around it, and do something cool with it.

Young Worf has earned the uniform but not yet learned what it means

This is my original story about what a younger Worf does once he leaves the Academy. He earned the uniform. He made it through training. Now he has to figure out what wearing that uniform means when the decisions matter and nobody is standing there grading the exercise.

We know who Worf becomes. We know the loyalty, the discipline, the courage. We've watched him put himself between his crew and danger more times than we can count. But I want to spend time with the young officer who still has to become that person.

He's a Klingon raised by humans, serving in Starfleet, carrying expectations about all three parts of his life. What does he think he has to prove? How does he handle being corrected? What happens when his idea of the honorable thing clashes with what his duty requires? "That's the Worf I want to explore." He's capable, he's determined, and he's got a lot to learn. He'll also have a crew with their own personalities and problems, because "somebody has to work the shift with this guy."

Star Trek Worf: The First Duty is a narrated story, not live action

I want people to know exactly what this is going in. I'm telling the story myself. There won't be live action scenes, and I'm not using AI generated visuals. Instead, there's a relaxing ambient space background while I tell the story. It's something you can put on, get comfortable with, and listen to, maybe kicking back for a while and spending some time aboard a starship with Worf.

I think the format gives us room to use our imaginations. We can get inside Worf's head. We can sit with a conversation or a difficult decision without needing to manufacture a clip for every single sentence.

Why I wanted to finish one Star Trek idea myself

I love talking about what Trek could do, and I do it constantly. But I also wanted to finish one of these ideas and share it, rather than only imagining it. The series begins with episode one, and I'm excited to finally let people meet this version of Worf that I've come up with.
