Dragon Ball Super Moro arc fan animation reaction: a strong take
A fan take on Ultra Instinct Goku versus Moro condenses the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc into about 11 minutes, with an alternate ending
RHG Animations' fan animation of the Dragon Ball Super Moro arc, also known as the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc, impressed me. It condenses the arc into about 11 minutes, I asked the animator for permission before reacting to it, and for fan animation, "this is extremely entertaining." I'd seen bits and pieces of it before but never the whole thing, so this was my first full look.
The Moro fan animation skips the talking to get to the action
The speed grabbed me from the start, and I hope Super moves this fast. The sound effects are great, and the animator used music from Super. I think it's only one person doing this, though I'd have to ask to be sure.
There's a time skip where the animation summarizes what happened in between. I like that. He wants to skip the verbal stuff and get to the action parts. It's not the comedy side of the series, but that's okay.
Vegeta's red reflection is a classic Dragon Ball detail
I love the space shots, which are classic Dragon Ball, and the shots of the Earth. When Vegeta had his hand on his eye and saw the red reflection, that was a really good touch. It's not just fighting. He puts in little touches of the kind Dragon Ball uses to illustrate colors or strength, and "that's old school dragon ball," like old school Z when the animation and the direction were at their best, along with the really good Super episodes.
Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku versus Moro is the main event
Perfected Ultra Instinct versus Moro is what we're all there to see. Once it gets going there's voice acting, and the music fits even though it isn't by Super's composer. The Japanese probably isn't accurate. The actual actors didn't record this, so he takes sound bites from Dragon Ball and other anime for effect, and Cell's voice turns up. If he used the American voice actors, they might get upset.
I hadn't seen that part yet, but I hoped he'd include the moment where Moro punches Goku and his wrist breaks. It's an alternate ending, one where Moro gets fat.
The space sequences, with the quasars in the background, are the kind of Dragon Ball fights I've wanted: galactic, universal level stuff. We know these characters are far beyond that, so we need to see more of it. If Super were animated like this by the top animators and set in space, it might surpass the manga as far as the fights go. The real animators would be more on model, but that whole sequence was top tier for a fan animator.
A lifer's verdict on the Goku vs Moro fan animation
No matter how bad Dragon Ball gets, "I'm always gonna be a mark for it." I'm a lifer, and even if I weren't doing this, I'd still keep up with the manga every month.
This is not a fake reaction. I hate reactions that are all fake, with people jumping around. I was marking out over how good this is for a fan animation. It sucked me in, I loved it, and I'm very impressed.
