Goku Black arc: how would Geekdom101 end it without Zeno?

If I had written the end of the Goku Black arc in Dragon Ball Super, Trunks would have used the spirit sword split, the immortal Zamasu would have been sealed in the Mafuba jar, and the Zeno ending would never have happened. That's one of many answers I gave in a batch of questions about Dragon Ball and other topics. Others covered whether the Yardrats could help against Moro, what the King of Sadala might know, and why Gohan keeps getting sidelined.

At the time I answered these, the Moro arc, also called the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc, was still running in the Dragon Ball Super manga drawn by Toyotaro.

Could the Yardrats fight Moro alongside Goku and Vegeta?

The first question asked whether the Yardrats could join a combined fight with Goku, Vegeta and Buu against Moro. I could see them coming to Earth, but more as support for Goku, Vegeta, Buu and the others. As far as combat goes, they're not efficient fighters.

They do have bizarre and strange abilities. Vegeta told us that all the way back in Dragon Ball Z, and now we're seeing those abilities in the Moro arc. So I could see them getting involved, but I don't see them fighting. What they taught Vegeta might, in their opinion, be enough to put Moro away once and for all. Remember, we haven't seen everything. They may have taught Vegeta more techniques that the manga hasn't shown yet.

Does the King of Sadala know Super Saiyan secrets?

Another question asked whether it would be a great twist if Vegeta met the King of Sadala and learned the king knew about the Super Saiyan transformation before Cabba, Caulifla and Kale did. It would be, and it would make sense. In the Universe 6 version of the Saiyans, the royal family might keep secrets. Maybe the king knows secret transformations he won't share because he fears Saiyans getting too strong. Maybe he's like Frieza, afraid a rebellion could happen someday.

There are so many ways they could take the Sadala storyline. The Sadala arc could end up being a very long arc with a lot of cool lore and backstory. There are so many possibilities there, so yes, I think it could work.

Gohan keeps going back and forth in Dragon Ball Super

Will Gohan get a power boost? I think it depends on where they want to take the story. Based on how he's written in the Moro arc, he's been relegated to being just a cheerleader. He got some shine in the Tournament of Power. He got very powerful, had an awesome episode, and went toe to toe with Blue Goku, so they were on their way to rebuilding him.

That's been the pattern with Gohan in Dragon Ball Super. In Battle of Gods he did a couple of things. He lost to Beerus, but he tried his best. In Resurrection F he's a joke who doesn't even train. In the Trunks arc he's licking ice cream instead of fighting. Then in the Tournament of Power he's serious again.

They keep going back and forth with him in the writing. Based on that, my prediction is that they will do something with Gohan at some point, but not anytime soon.

Magic and the other universes: why not both?

Should the manga and anime go in a more mystical direction like Moro, or explore the known universes past and present? Why not both? Introduce more magic, like Toriyama did in the Buu saga and like Toyotaro is doing now with Moro, and explore the other universes too. I've been saying that for years. As of 2020, there was so much wasted potential for great lore in Dragon Ball Super, and I thought we needed to capitalize on it soon.

Could the Z Fighters survive a planet exploding?

One question asked whether fighters this strong could survive a planet being destroyed, like Kid Buu blowing up Earth, or being blasted into the sun the way Bio Broly was. First, a correction: it wasn't Bio Broly who got destroyed by the sun. That was Broly in the second Broly movie. Bio Broly was the third Broly movie, and he died because the purple goop froze him and Goten and the others blasted him to pieces.

As for the main question, I do think they can survive a planet explosion. If they're asleep or caught off guard, then probably not. But if they can put up a barrier fast enough, I do think they can survive it. That's just my opinion.

Why Vegeta gets more character development than Goku

Goku already got his arc, though that's up for debate, because he still has stories like Ultra Instinct, where he learns to let go. Vegeta gets more development because he was introduced as a villain who became an antihero who became a hero. There's more of a character there.

Goku is, as they say in wrestling, the white meat babyface. He had a tremendous arc in the original Dragon Ball, and it continued into Z, where he kept learning more about the world and the universes. But Vegeta changed more than Goku. Character arcs are all about change, a character being different from point A to point B to point C. That's why Vegeta gets more development: he's more different than Goku.

Toyotaro may be working within limits set by Shueisha

Am I enjoying the current direction of Dragon Ball Super? I can't say I'm enjoying it as much as I want to. If it were up to me, I would have skipped past the end of Z or done something with Sadala. The Moro arc has some cool ideas, but Sadala is what everybody wants, and Broly is out there, so I probably would have tried to capitalize on that.

You have to understand that Toyotaro works under Shueisha, and there's a possibility they've given him parameters on what he can and cannot write. Nobody ever talks about this, but it needs to be talked about: Toyotaro is possibly handcuffed. Maybe he can't go past the end of Z. Maybe Toriyama doesn't want him to. Maybe he was told not to use Broly yet because they have bigger plans for him. That could very well be the case.

People don't seem to understand that this is a corporate thing now. Toyotaro is not the boss. Modern Dragon Ball is corporate.

My alternate ending for the Goku Black arc

I don't like the ending of the Goku Black arc, so here's how I would have done it. Trunks does the spirit sword split. They trap the immortal Zamasu in the Mafuba jar. Then either Vegito, or Goku and Vegeta, defeat and kill Goku Black, the non immortal side. That would have been my ending.

I cannot stand the Zeno ending. They did foreshadow it, but I didn't like it.

The 18 universes don't fit the twin universe equation

According to Whis, there are 12 universes in total, and every two universes whose numbers add up to 13 are twins. So how did universes 13 through 18 fit? The answer is we don't know. Either they had their own equation or the equation was different back then.

It might have been 1 and 18, 2 and 17. But that wouldn't explain why 6 and 7 are twins, because with 18 universes, 9 and 10 would be the twins. Saying there were six other universes is a bad retcon. They said it to show how powerful and scary Zeno was, but it wasn't well thought out, because it contradicts the twin rule. All I can think of is that they had their own equation.

A Frieza arc, and when Sadala should happen

How would I feel about an arc focused on Frieza, maybe one where he's overthrown from within his forces and spends the arc reclaiming his position? Have you seen my avatar? I would totally love that, just to see Frieza be awesome.

Should the Sadala arc happen around the Moro arc or after the end of Z? The questioner worried it would be too late past the end of Z. It's not too late at all, because Oob could be involved in that arc. There are all kinds of things they can do. Either one doesn't matter to me, because at this rate Goku and the others are going to keep getting stronger and stronger.

What I wanted from Spider-Man: Miles Morales

On the Spider-Man: Miles Morales game, which was still to come at the time, Kraven the Hunter being involved is a good idea, and I wouldn't mind seeing that at all. I think the Miles Morales storyline would have something to do with the Prowler, like in the Spider-Verse film, so I would definitely have him involved. Maybe they could bring in some of the villains who didn't get a chance to shine in the regular Spider-Man game. But Miles should have a completely different arc than Peter Parker. He should be a different character, executed well.

Toriyama, Toei and the original Z anime

One question pointed out that before Super, Toriyama seemed to ignore Toei's previous depictions, coming up with his own Yardrat designs, changing Bardock, and de-aging the Pilaf gang. All that is true, and there's a lot there. But as far as Toriyama purposely moving the story away from Toei, I don't think he even cares that much. I think he may have watched the original Z anime once or twice and never paid it much mind. I think it was all about the manga for him, but he doesn't even remember his own manga.

Saiyan tails and the one character I would erase

How much stronger would Vegeta, Goku and Gohan be if they never lost their tails? Not that much stronger. They've already broken their limits and are way past that, so a tail isn't going to give them a big push.

If I had to erase one character from Dragon Ball, people keep saying Mr. Satan, but I don't know if I like that, because he's a funny character. I was going to say General Blue in the anime, but I like all the characters in Dragon Ball. Maybe Bojack, though maybe I'd just make him a better character. I like everybody.

How I booked the end of the Tournament of Power

I booked my own finish before the arc ended, and I'm sticking with it. Jiren and Goku double eliminate each other, and Gohan beats Toppo. That gives Gohan a big win and lets Jiren and Goku keep their feud going for later.

Vegeta's spirit separation and the chance of fusion against Moro

Could Vegeta manipulate spirit separation to absorb energy instead of sending it back to its origins? I was surprised he didn't do that himself, but I guess he wanted to be a good guy and not be selfish. Could the technique nullify the Spirit Bomb? It's possible. There's still more to the arc, and maybe more of Vegeta's new power later.

Does one side fusing always mean the other fuses too? That's not always true. We saw it in Super, and in the Buu arc, though that was more absorption. But Gogeta also fought Janemba and Broly, who were not fused characters. I don't think we'll see fusion this soon, but we could see absorption. We could see Majin Buu absorbing Goku and Vegeta, which I've been saying for a while, and that's what I hope happens.

Rewriting the Dragon Fist for Goku in Super

What original move would I give Goku? I don't think about those things, because it depends on what the story dictates. I don't like coming up with moves for characters; there always needs to be a reason. Spirit separation would have worked.

Goku did come up with the Dragon Fist. It's in a movie and in GT, and people say it's not canon, but he came up with it, if you want to count it. I would put the Dragon Fist in Super, but with Goku training and working to perfect it, instead of busting it out of nowhere like he did against Hirudegarn. They're rewriting Broly, so they could take the Dragon Fist and rewrite it too. In my opinion that would be great.

If Galactus came to the Dragon Ball universe

Setting aside power scaling, what if Galactus arrived with his heralds as a cosmic force of nature that can't be physically beaten in the traditional sense? The Z Fighters would have to team up with the gods: Beerus, the Grand Priest and others. Goku is very strong at this point, but leaving scaling aside, I would definitely talk to the gods and Zeno and try to figure it out. That would be an awesome storyline.

Could base form Goku and Vegeta one shot Kid Buu?

Was Vegeta going for the kill against Broly and Moro? I think he was, but it took too much time. As for post Tournament of Power base form Goku and Vegeta one shotting Kid Buu, Kid Buu is very hard to kill. I'm not going to die on this hill, but I'm going to say no. I think they would beat him, but they would have to pummel him down to get the victory.

Unsolved Mysteries, cheese eggs and my favorite PS2 games

My favorite Unsolved Mysteries episode was the Zodiac Killer one. I was glued to my seat as a kid and loved it. I also loved the Alcatraz episode, the UFO specials, and the Padre Pio story about the Catholic figure whose ghost would heal people from diseases. To impress Beerus and stop him destroying the planet, I'd feed him my cheese eggs, which I can cook very well. Cereal goes in before milk, definitely. As for R-Truth becoming WWE 24/7 champion a record 37 times, I haven't followed it closely enough to say.

I had a PS2 in that era, not a GameCube or Xbox. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is at the top, along with Dragon Quest VIII, the Sly Cooper games, Max Payne one and two, Vice City, Manhunt and anything from Rockstar. Shadow of the Colossus is an absolute classic. San Andreas is still my favorite GTA, but I love all of them, even the older ones. I hope someday we get a legitimate remaster of Vice City and GTA 3, a really good one with some new stuff in it.

The world in 2020 was a mess, and all we have is each other, so we should take care of ourselves.

I think Jiren beats Broly because his showing against Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku surpasses Broly's performance against Gogeta, and his level headed fighting style beats Broly's rage. Still, I think with more time Broly could eventually rise to Jiren's level.

Dragon Ball Super being dropped from Jump Festa 2027's exhibit doesn't mean the manga is finished, since a return could be announced anytime in Jump or V Jump without needing a big event. I don't believe the delay is about mourning Toriyama, but there are clearly internal issues I can't explain, so I'd keep expectations low.
