Tai Lung vs. Death: Why the Kung Fu Panda Villain Still Loses
Tai Lung might be the stronger fighter, but beating the wolf and defeating Death are two different things
Tai Lung versus Death: who wins? As a straight fight, I think Tai Lung might be stronger than Death, and I don't think that's all that crazy. But Death still wins.
Why Tai Lung might be the stronger fighter
Tai Lung, the villain of Kung Fu Panda (2008), is a monster. He escaped from a prison guarded by thousands of rhinos, defeated the Furious Five and beat Master Shifu. He was close to unstoppable until Po showed up. He's incredibly strong and incredibly fast, and his nerve strikes can paralyze somebody with a few hits.
Death's fighting feats in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) aren't nearly as impressive. He's obviously an incredibly skilled fighter with his two sickles. He's fast enough to overwhelm Puss, and he can seemingly appear wherever he wants. But in their final fight, Puss manages to disarm him and beat him. Death isn't untouchable, and if Tai Lung gets his hands on him, he can overpower the wolf.
Why Death still beats Tai Lung
That's the problem: Death isn't a wolf. He's the physical embodiment of Death. Even if Tai Lung knocks him down, breaks his weapons and lands a bunch of hits, what is that going to do?
Death isn't necessarily going to instantly kill Tai Lung. He fought Puss and was willing to walk away once Puss stopped taking his life for granted. Tai Lung might even out-skill him. But beating the wolf and defeating Death are two completely different things, and Tai Lung isn't going to do the second one. Death wins.
