New Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Set to Debut During World Series Game 1

Major League Baseball has promised a special look at Avengers: Doomsday on Friday night, and leaks suggest Marvel wants to show something new while I hope the third act stays hidden.

A brand new Avengers: Doomsday trailer is on the way, and it's coming from an official source: Major League Baseball. In a promotion for Game 1 of the World Series, MLB said something's coming, telling fans to tune in at 8:00 p.m. Friday night for a special look at the film. I'm excited for new scenes, but I'm hoping Marvel Studios keeps the third act of this movie hidden.

This news also confirms a source I can now count on as reliable, because their claim came true.

A Twitter scooper named Carl called the Friday trailer

Recently I covered a Twitter scooper named Carl, who I hadn't covered before but who had been part of the Doomsday scooper conversation for quite some time. I gave the usual spoiler warning at the time. He was claiming there might be a trailer coming on Friday, the 23rd.

Credit where credit's due: he was right. The MLB promotion for Game 1 of the World Series shows his claim came true, which is why I now count him as reliable.

I'm assuming this may be what's called the final trailer. We've had a teaser trailer and the official trailer, and very generally the third one gets referred to as the final trailer. But I know that's not truly the case. There will be tons more trailers, TV spots and official clips on late night shows, with so much more promo over the next two months that using the word final in front of any of them would be silly.

I suspect the trailer will air early in the game

The game starts at 8:00 p.m. As it usually goes with Marvel trailers, they either come at halftime or right at the beginning of the sporting event. There's no halftime in baseball, so the second option seems more likely. During the Super Bowl, the Deadpool and Wolverine trailer aired on one of the very first commercial breaks as the game was starting.

I suspect it'll be the same case here. It'll be sometime very early in the innings, so maybe in between the first and second inning, during the first commercial break. If you're tuned into the game, you're going to see it.

If you're not following World Series Game 1, the trailer is going to be posted online shortly after. There may be one or two frames that differ between the version shown on TV and the one posted online, which is usually the case. In general, though, it'll be the same exact trailer.

Leaks say Marvel wants to show Mobius and Doctor Strange

There have already been some leaked details about this trailer, and up until now most of the leaks for the Avengers: Doomsday trailers have been correct. Scenes have been leaked on Twitter, and one leaker had the exact dialogue for the second trailer a week before it dropped. Take that as you will. I'm not going to issue a spoiler warning for a trailer that's arriving this soon.

Industry insider updates have said that Marvel Studios wants to wow with this trailer. The goal, reportedly, is to push the envelope and make the viewer go, "Oh my god, this is not something we've seen before." Marvel also reportedly wants to include characters who haven't been in the official promotion so far.

Those characters, by name, are Mobius and Doctor Strange. Mobius appeared in the postcredit scene for Avengers Endgame Encore, so the wind has somewhat been taken out of those sails. Doctor Strange was rumored very recently, erroneously, to have been removed from the film, after concept art for a Magic card didn't include him.

As it turns out, he will be a core member of this film. Several industry insiders have weighed in to counteract or debunk what the artist behind that Magic card art said about him being removed. The artist may have been speaking erroneously, and Marvel doesn't always share exact details. They probably just wanted him removed from the art because they didn't want that image out there. Now industry insiders are saying he's going to be in this trailer.

A scooper says no third act footage has been shown yet

The other big update about this trailer, or really about every trailer so far, came from a scooper who has been a huge source of Marvel news and leaks over the last four or five years. He indicated that Marvel Studios has not yet shown anything from the third act of Avengers: Doomsday.

He pointed out that even with Avengers: Endgame, Marvel was fine giving a couple of frames of the final battle, such as Captain America standing and facing off against Thanos and his army, even if there may have been some CGI changes. Captain America with his shield on the ground was shown too. That was all prime third act battle material, and it appeared in the Endgame trailer. According to this scooper, not a single frame or piece of a scene from the third act of Doomsday has been shown.

When I hear other industry insiders say Marvel wants to wow us with this trailer, show us something new and sell the spectacle that is Doomsday, it makes me wonder if this trailer may be a completely different look. Maybe they'll start to give us a taste of what's to come in that final battle.

Why I don't think Marvel will feel pressure to reveal too much

I like it when Marvel Studios does the opposite. I want them to withhold as much as possible. There are enough leaks and rumors going around for all of these films. I've critiqued Marvel for getting nervous about ticket sales in the last week before a movie drops, as with Multiverse of Madness or The Marvels, and then revealing too much, such as the Illuminati or the X-Men in the postcredit scene for The Marvels.

We will not run into that same situation with Avengers: Doomsday. Early in the year, we heard that tickets were tracking all the way up to 50 million on presales. Now, we've heard it's upwards of a hundred million. That's even without the IMAX theaters, and even with direct competition for the dollar spend on that December weekend, because Dune 3 will be in IMAX. There is more than enough moviegoing during the holiday season to go around.

They are not worried about ticket sales for this film at all. In that respect, I'm pretty sure they're not going to feel the pressure to reveal too much as the release gets close.

I hope Loki gets more time but the cameos stay secret

There's a good chance that the Avengers Endgame Encore postcredit scenes, especially the one in the TVA, opened the door as far as what Marvel could show. There are still some main characters who have had very little time in the trailers, like Loki, who probably deserves a lot more attention. I wouldn't be surprised to see some other characters as well.

But for the secret cameos, the material added at the end during the reshoots that the same scooper said included new cameos, I hope they stay completely secret. It would be nice to go into the third act of a film with no inkling of what's going to happen, having seen none of the imagery and going in blind. That's something Marvel fans haven't been afforded for the last 10 or 15 years.

So give us an amazing look during the World Series. Show us something we haven't seen from the film before. Wow us. But keep that third act hidden, along with any other secrets Marvel may have up its sleeve, because we really don't want to know those either.
