Avengers: Doomsday final trailer: when is it releasing?

A new leak describes a Doctor Doom monologue, divided heroes and a darker Avengers theme

Avengers: Doomsday final trailer: when is it releasing?

The final trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is reportedly ready, and according to a leaker on Twitter, it should arrive sometime between November 16 and 22. A new description of the trailer has also surfaced. It reportedly points to a moody teaser built around a Robert Downey Jr. monologue as Victor von Doom, rather than a run of big action shots. My best guess for the release day is November 17.

The usual caution applies. Don't put your full trust in anything that doesn't come straight from Marvel Studios. That said, every leaked trailer description for this film so far has been 100% accurate.

NoMoreMutants22 says the Avengers: Doomsday final trailer is ready

This latest update comes from NoMoreMutants22, a leaker on Twitter whose claims I've only recently started covering, so take it however you see fit. Other leakers on Twitter, such as MyTimeToShineHello, have had a strong run over the past year. They gave us a description of every Avengers: Doomsday trailer weeks before it came out, and all of them were correct.

NoMoreMutants22 opens the update by indirectly defending earlier reports that the final trailer would land on a weekend around the 22nd and 23rd. We did get a promotional clip then, but not the final trailer those reports described. He says promotional dates shifted. He also makes it clear that the final trailer itself is ready.

Why I think November 17 is the likeliest day for the trailer

Based on his sources, he expects the trailer between November 16 and 22. That would be a week earlier than what I'd previously reported. Other sources had pointed to Thanksgiving week.

Look at how Marvel spreads out its trailer releases and a pattern stands out. Tuesdays are the top choice by a wide margin, followed by Sundays. Other days of the week are less likely. So if this window is correct, November 17 looks like the day to expect it.

The leaked description points to a fractured timeline and Doctor Strange

According to the description, this won't simply be a string of action scenes. It's described as a mysterious teaser centered on a visually fractured timeline and the sheer scale of the coming conflict. The imagery reportedly includes shots of a battle between Doctor Doom and Thor. These are supposedly just extended versions of shots we've already seen.

The description also mentions a night scene and a shot of a character who hasn't appeared in any trailer yet. An earlier report said we might see Mobius and/or Doctor Strange as new characters. This wouldn't be the first time we'd see Mobius, though, since he already appeared in an end credits scene. So my bet is that the new character here is Doctor Strange.

Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom monologue plays over divided heroes

A key element, per the description, is a long monologue from Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom. In it he explains his motivations and gives a deeper look at how he sees the conflict. His voice reportedly plays over shots of different teams of heroes separated from one another. That makes it clear they aren't united against the threat Doctor Doom poses.

I find that detail interesting. The more closely we study certain shots from the Doomsday trailers, the more they show heroes fighting heroes. One example involves Black Panther. A touch of teal on the Black Panther suit visually suggests some kind of friendly alliance between Talokan and Wakanda. Yet they're about to fight while standing in the middle of a Talokan temple.

The description also says we'll hear an industrial style version of the Avengers theme. It's reportedly darker and more powerful. It plays over scenes of destruction, confrontation and the time rift.

Marvel may keep the third act of Avengers: Doomsday hidden

To be honest, Marvel already gave away the big secret in an end credits scene set inside the TVA. We know the multiverse is on the verge of total collapse. In my analysis, I laid it out directly. If we take that end credits scene seriously, the only timelines left by the time of Doomsday are 616, 828 and 10005.

So Marvel could show us more imagery of the incursions. That would be a way to drive home the huge stakes of this film, especially for the casual fan. For that fan, this film may be the last chance Marvel hopes to win them over into buying a ticket. But judging by this description, Marvel seems to be following a strategy of showing what we've already seen, plus a little more. They'll keep handing out a few extra shots from these same scenes.

Industry insider Daniel RPK has pointed out that even the second trailer for Avengers: Endgame gave us shots of the final battle. If the reports are right and this description is accurate, it looks like we won't see anything from the third act or the final battle of Avengers: Doomsday before we get to theaters.

The final trailer won't be the last Avengers: Doomsday marketing

This trailer will be billed as the final one, but it won't be anything of the sort. There will be TV spots and official clips everywhere, especially in the last week before the film opens.

At this rate, I can't imagine many tickets are left, given how well presales are going. The latest official estimate puts Avengers: Doomsday advance ticket sales at more than 125 million dollars. I'm not sure any tickets remain at any theater for opening weekend.

Even so, Marvel Studios knows there are tons of fans out there. For those of us in this small corner of the internet, it's hard to picture someone who hasn't bought a ticket yet. But maybe they know another Avengers film is coming. Maybe they even know it involves Doctor Doom. They don't know much about what happened or who's on the team. They've seen Spider-Man and maybe Deadpool and Wolverine, but none of the other films. I know plenty of people like that. They're fans, but it isn't central to their lives. Marvel wants all of those tickets too.

Avengers: Doomsday is beating Dune 3 in presales, and IMAX could follow

I think there was some genuine worry that Dune might hurt the launch of Doomsday. The fear was that Doomsday wouldn't do as well as it would have without going head to head with Dune, and without Dune taking every IMAX screen. For now, though, Doomsday is well ahead of Dune 3 in advance ticket sales.

So I'm waiting to see whether some of those IMAX screens get handed to Doomsday almost right away, or perhaps within its first couple of weeks. That would simply give Marvel a reason for a different marketing push, telling people to go see it again in IMAX.

Even if those screens aren't pulled from Dune during the first two weeks of December, I'm certain Marvel will use IMAX later as a reason to rerelease the film. That would fill the stretch between Doomsday and Secret Wars, a year with no other Marvel films.
