The Shore, a Lovecraft-inspired horror game, is worth a look on PS5 and on sale

The 2021 weird fiction exploration game shines in its puzzles and exploration, even if its later combat holds it back

The Shore is a weird fiction exploration game that originally came out back in 2021, and the setting makes it worth a look. I'm bringing it up because it got a surprise PS5 port, so you can now play it on PS5.

The Shore draws on H.P. Lovecraft's cosmic horror

The game is inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. It starts out innocently enough. You wash up on the gray shores of an island that looks Hebridean, with a lighthouse, a shipwreck and some buildings to explore. There's much more to it than meets the eye, though, and you end up involved in some bizarre cosmic horror.

Combat is The Shore's weak point

Regrettably, the game introduces some combat mechanics as it progresses. It definitely would have been better off sticking to the puzzles and the exploration, because that's where it shines.

It's a nice looking game, almost photorealistic you could say. At the time of writing it was on sale for $1.50, which makes it easy to go for a look around The Shore.
