Drowned Lake brings fishing, boating and survival horror to Next Fest

A grimy game jam fishing project has grown into a fuller horror game built around a missing person case

Drowned Lake is one of the more seasonally fitting games at Next Fest, an interesting survival horror game that mixes analog film with boating and fishing gameplay. The more I think about this one, the more I want to try it.

Drowned Lake started as a game jam project

I always like it when a game has come out of a game jam project and you can still see the first iteration on itch. That version was a grimy top down fishing game that clearly had some magic to it.

How the full version of Drowned Lake builds it out

The full version retains the vibes and builds the gameplay out in all directions. It adds first person sections, a deeper narrative about a missing person case, and deeper gameplay too. The things you fish from the deep will enable you to progress in the story. For example, finding an old rusted key in your nets will let you into the cemetery.

The timing is perfect for Halloween season.
