Dragon Ball's Pure-Blooded Saiyans Are All Named After Vegetables
From Vegeta to Kale, the Saiyan names in Dragon Ball are built on vegetable puns.
Every character in Dragon Ball is named after something, usually by way of a pun, and the Saiyans are all named after vegetables. Even the word Saiyan is a pun on yasai, which means vegetable.
Vegeta, Broly and Kale take their names from vegetables
Vegeta is the first half of the word vegetable, while Tarble is a pun on the last half. Broly is broccoli, Cabba is cabbage, Caulifla is cauliflower, Raditz is radishes, Nappa is cabbage and Paragus is asparagus. Kale is obviously kale. Bardock is burdock, and Goku's mother Gine is Negi, Japanese for spring onion.
Turles comes from lettuce, Shallot is a type of onion, Beets is named after beets and Cumber is cucumber. Giblet is chive, otherwise known as ciboulette.
Keep in mind, this only applies to pure-blooded Saiyans. When will we run out of vegetable names? The world may never know.
Which Saiyan vegetable pun do you think is the cleverest?
