Wildwood factions explained: who wants what in the forest

One thing stood out to me in the movie Wildwood: "all of the factions are insane." Here are all five factions in the forest, what each one wants, and how three of them end up on the same side. The movie is complex, but it's one of my favorite movies.

Spoilers ahead if you haven't seen the movie yet.

The Coyote Army is Wildwood's main villain force, led by Alexandra

The Coyote Army, led by Alexandra, is one of the most dangerous factions. It is the primary antagonist force and operates out of its own base. Its main goal is total conquest of the entire forest. The army also exists to help Alexandra reincarnate her child once again.

The Wildwood Bandits are a Robin Hood style brotherhood of outlaws

The Wildwood Bandits were one of my favorites. They are a fierce Robin Hood style brotherhood of outlaws, rogue humans and exiled woodland dwellers. They live in hidden treetop camps, in clearings across the forest, and in areas of the ancient world that were taken over by the vines. Their goal is freedom, both from the corruption of the South Wood government and from the military tyranny of the Coyote Army.

The South Wood bureaucracy wants order and to keep outsiders and the vines out

The South Wood bureaucracy is located in the southern region of the forest, in its most densely populated urban settlement. It is inhabited by civilians and talking animals. Its main goals are maintaining order and political self-preservation, and keeping outsiders and threats, especially the vines, from ruining its society.

The Avian Principality is the proud bird society that helps Prue

The fourth faction is the Avian Principality, the group of birds who occupy the highest treetops of the forest. They are an extremely proud society of talking birds, and they help Prue throughout the film.

The North Wood Mystics are the group Prue calls the hippies

The fifth faction is the North Wood Mystics. Prue calls them the hippies because they talk to their trees. Their goal is to preserve the spiritual and ecological balance of the wood, and they want to prevent Alexandra from corrupting the world with the vines.

By the end of the film, the bandits, the Avian Principality and the mystics all come together to help Prue save her brother, and to save their world from Alexandra. This movie was complex, but it's one of my favorite movies.
