Jeremy Allen White as Wolverine: is Marvel recasting for X-Men?
Insider reports point to a Wolverine recast for the X-Men film, alongside reported talks for Iceman, Polaris and Magneto
It looks like Marvel Studios is looking at casting a new Wolverine, and the actor reportedly in the frame is Jeremy Allen White. He has a connection to Marvel Studios, and specifically to the X-Men film. I think this makes a lot of sense, and I like him for the role. Nothing is confirmed yet, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.
There are several other casting reports circulating around the X-Men movie, including reported talks for Iceman, Polaris and Magneto, plus deleted posts from an insider about Storm, Rogue and Gambit. Wolverine is the one I think most of the fandom would consider the most important.
Insiders say Marvel Studios has met with actors for Wolverine
We have heard from a few different insiders and accounts that Marvel Studios is doing a lot of casting. The reports say Marvel Studios has met with actors for Wolverine and that they are recasting the character. That doesn't mean Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is going away. I do believe he's going to stick around, but we're going to have a new one, which I think makes sense.
We didn't think we'd get a new Wolverine until later down the road. There's also no guarantee that, if they cast him, he'll be part of the new X-Men team. He could be in the movie, or he could be in a post-credits scene. According to Jeff Sneider and another insider, Jeremy Allen White has met with Marvel Studios about playing Wolverine.
Jeremy Allen White's connection to the X-Men film
The link here is the writer. As I understand it, the X-Men film is being written by the person who created Beef, who has worked with Jeremy Allen White for a long time. With that writer now involved in the X-Men film, there's a clear connection, and that's part of why I think this makes a lot of sense.
My theory is that the writer got him the interview with Marvel, got him in the door and vouched for him as a phenomenal actor who is great to work with, easily directed and a perfect fit. I think that might be happening. I think we might be getting Jeremy Allen White as our new Wolverine. I don't think that's confirmed yet, but I do believe he's had talks with Marvel because it makes sense. Whether the deal works out, we'll have to wait and see.
Why I think Jeremy Allen White could fill the Wolverine role
I know some people like this idea and some people can't see it. I'll say he's a great actor. He's 35 years old, and Wolverine doesn't age like everybody else; he's hundreds of years old. Whether he'll be hundreds of years old when we meet him in the MCU depends on where in his story we get him, and that's unclear at this point.
He has done The Bear, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere and The Iron Claw, and he was in Shameless for a long time. Can he get scruffy and rough for Wolverine and pack on muscle? I think he can. There are images of him in incredible shape, and he'd have to do the Hugh Jackman training, which I think he can do.
He looks very different from Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, but I think that's probably what Marvel Studios is going for. They don't want someone who looks just like him, because then everyone would just compare the two. People are going to compare him to Hugh Jackman no matter what.
Ben Wang reportedly in talks to play Iceman
Marvel is doing a lot of other casting too. The X-Men movie reportedly has a mostly finished script, and most of the main cast has been cast. Other characters will appear in the movie without necessarily being part of the main lineup, possibly at the school or possibly in the wider MCU.
According to new casting reports, Ben Wang is in talks to play Iceman. I've seen a lot of discussion online about this. Ben Wang has been in some very good combat films, but this one might not sit well with some people.
Cailee Spaeny reportedly in talks to play Polaris, daughter of Magneto
Cailee Spaeny is reportedly in talks to play Polaris, Magneto's daughter. I think this would be very cool. I also want Marvel Studios to go down the route where Magneto is the father of the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.
Going into this new universe, it would be easy to bring the Scarlet Witch back, bring back a variant of Quicksilver and introduce a new Magneto. We've already seen that the parents of the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver have died in the MCU, so Magneto could say that in his universe, Wanda Maximoff was his daughter and Pietro was his son. That way they're father and daughter, but not technically, which wouldn't upset MCU continuity. Then again, it's a new MCU universe, so they can do whatever they want.
I raise this because I don't think they're getting rid of Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch. At least, I hope not, because I know fans are excited to see her back, especially after WandaVision hinted at it and dropped her name a lot.
Morgan Spector reportedly in talks to play Magneto
I'm not sure about the validity of this one because the casting was fancast a lot, but according to one report, Morgan Spector is in talks to play Magneto. It has been going around online, so take it with a grain of salt. That's not to say he couldn't do a good job, but he wouldn't be my first choice.
I know some people disagree, but I'm a big fan of the idea of someone like Henry Cavill playing Magneto. I think that would work well. Still, I stay open and want to give whoever they cast a chance.
Kitty Pryde, Jubilee and Beast casting reports
According to the same report, Kitty Pryde has already been cast, which is interesting. I'm excited to see her character. The report also states that a new actor is in talks to play Wolverine and that Marvel is casting an Asian female character. Jubilee is the name that comes to mind, and it seems like she might be the one they're going for, especially with the Professor Xavier school in the picture. I think that would be cool.
Other reports say Beast has been cast, though there's no big confirmation about who is playing him. I like the cast we have so far, and the X-Men movie is looking good.
Deleted insider posts on Storm, Rogue, Gambit and Nightcrawler
One insider posted, then deleted, several tweets about the X-Men movie. On Jeremy Allen White as Wolverine, he wrote: "yes and from what I've heard talks are progressing well and things seem to be heading in the right direction." He kept that one up.
The deleted posts said Storm will have a prominent role but won't be part of the team initially, Rogue will cause some problems and eventually leave the team, Storm and Kitty Pryde will help the team, and the new Gambit will have a prominent role. On Nightcrawler, he said his information related to another project, not X-Men, though other accounts have reported that the character will appear in the movie. He may have taken these down because he heard different information. None of it is confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt.
If Storm does have a prominent role and leaves, that could lead into Black Panther 3, where she could meet the new T'Challa. I think they should go down that route. As for Wolverine, Jeremy Allen White's link to the film's writer is the reason I believe he's had talks with Marvel, and I like him for the role.

Wolverine wins, though just barely. Spider-Man is stronger and slightly faster, but Wolverine's superior toughness, healing factor and adamantium claws mean he only needs to land one hit to turn the fight, while Spider-Man struggles to ever put him down for good.
