Avengers: Doomsday Rumor Claims Robert Downey Jr.'s Doom Comes From Earth 838
A plot rumor ties Doctor Doom to the Illuminati universe from Multiverse of Madness and suggests he replaced the Fantastic Four's own Victor
A new plot rumor for Avengers: Doomsday claims there are two Doctor Dooms, and that Robert Downey Jr.'s version comes from the Illuminati universe seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen. It's not confirmed. It's a rumor. But I really like it, and I think it offers a twist that many fans would enjoy, not only a twist in the MCU but "a twist on the comics as well."
Many people are talking about this one because many people seem to like it. I've said before that I think there's only one Doctor Doom. What I mean is that I think there's only one main Doctor Doom. I still believe that's Robert Downey Jr.'s Doom, but this rumor puts Doom variants into the story in a very good way.
The Avengers: Doomsday rumor says one Doom is from the Fantastic Four universe and one is from Earth 838
According to the rumor, one Doctor Doom is from the Fantastic Four's universe, Earth 828, and the other is from the Illuminati universe, Earth 838. That's the reality Doctor Strange visited in Multiverse of Madness, and it would make Earth 838 the universe Doctor Doom comes from.
There was still one Illuminati chair unaccounted for in Multiverse of Madness. Could that have been meant for the Kang variant originally? Maybe. Could it have been Doctor Doom? Maybe. We did get the Ultron bots in that universe, and maybe Marvel will retcon them into Doombots. I think that would be very cool.
Could the empty seat have belonged to a Superior Iron Man or some other evil version of Iron Man? Maybe, because this might be a play on the Ultimate universe from the comics. In the comics' Secret Wars, the people from the Ultimate universe are the evil ones, and that's where we get the Maker, the evil version of Reed Richards. I've theorized before that the 838 universe could be Doom's home, so this twist appeals to me.
The Illuminati Doom reportedly kills the Fantastic Four's Victor and takes his place
The rumor says the Doom from the Illuminati universe kills the Doctor Doom of the Fantastic Four's 828 universe. He then approaches the Fantastic Four pretending to be the Victor from their universe. The team believes he's their Victor Von Doom until the very end, when his true intentions are revealed.
Based on everything we know, it seems like Thor and Steve go to the TVA, find out that Doom is a villain, and then come back and tell everybody. That could set up the "Victor, did you do this?" moment. According to the rumor, Reed realizes the truth and confronts Doom at the very end, and Doom answers: "all of you have lived stolen lives. Now, you must give them back."
Doom's plan reportedly diverts the heroes to the X-Men's universe
The rumor goes on to say the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the New Avengers go to the X-Men's universe to fight them, only to realize that these mutants have already survived one incursion. Doom's plan is to divert everyone's attention to the X-Men's universe.
We've already known that this conflict is Doom's doing. He's going to put everybody against each other, and the leaked photos of him playing chess fit that. He wants the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men to fight and take each other out, so the work he has to do is not as much. It makes sense that this would be a diversion.
According to the rumor, it's a diversion so Doom can destroy the 828 Fantastic Four universe. He's also said to kill Loki, kidnap Franklin and set up the destruction of the entire multiverse, so he can create Battleworld and rule that one universe the way he thinks it should be. Even Stan Lee said before that Doctor Doom isn't necessarily evil. He thinks he could do a better job than everybody else at ruling the universe, and that seems to be what we're getting here.
Rumor says Doom destroys the Fantastic Four and X-Men universes before turning Earth 838 on Earth 616
Again according to this rumor, at the end of act two, Robert Downey Jr.'s Doom destroys both the Fantastic Four's universe and the X-Men's universe before unleashing his ultimate Earth 838 against Earth 616. That would explain why the surviving Fantastic Four and X-Men characters are gathered at Avengers Tower. They've already lost their homes, and all they have left to fight for is Earth 616.
I don't see that part as a spoiler. We know every universe is going to get destroyed, and we know Doctor Doom is going to win and create Battleworld. How we get there is the journey, and that's the fun part: the final battle, the battles in the middle of the movie, all of it. We knew the X-Men were going to lose their universe, and now it seems like the Fantastic Four are going to lose theirs too.
Sue Storm's monologue could hint that Doom isn't the Victor she knew
Marvel has made it seem like Victor is from the Fantastic Four universe through Sue's monologue, where she talks about knowing Victor Von Doom. In this context, though, it might make some sense. She says Victor was always the smartest man in the room, that he was kind and caring, and that he went through all of this because everything got taken away from him, but she didn't know he was broken.
Maybe he wasn't. Maybe he was the man Sue knew, but then the one from the 838 universe came, killed him and took his spot. That would also explain why there are so many different costumes. The Victor from the Fantastic Four universe has one, maybe we see two, and the one from the Illuminati universe has his own. That could be why there are so many versions of Doom's outfit.
It also makes sense that Sue is confused by how Victor is acting. It goes against what she knows about him, and maybe that's because it isn't him. We've also heard that Sue thinks Doom is under the control of the witches who follow him. She might try to make sense of his behavior by blaming the witches, when in reality it's a different person who is much more cruel. I like it.
Doom's tower on Earth 838 reportedly works as a laser cannon aimed at Earth 616
The final part of the rumor says Doom's tower is reportedly located on Earth 838, the Illuminati universe and Robert Downey Jr.'s Doom's true original universe, which he has transformed into a Death Star like planet. The tower itself allegedly functions as a giant laser cannon aimed directly at Earth 616. During the final incursion, the heroes would have to fight on Earth 838 to stop Doom from obliterating Earth 616.
I think that would be pretty cool. Kevin Feige has compared Doctor Doom to Darth Vader before, so there might be some parallels here. Some of the new promos also show Avengers Tower and a destroyed New York City in many different shots, with green everywhere. That's our Avengers Tower covered in green with destruction all around, and it seems like Doctor Doom is attacking it. We heard a rumor at one point that this part might have been cut from the movie, but it looks like it's still in it.
The Hulk reportedly appears only in the final battle of Avengers: Doomsday
Doom is always 20 steps ahead of people. He's tricking them, playing them, and he knows exactly what he wants to do. I think his plan probably ends up flawless. He'll have to fight, because the Avengers and everyone come together and go to his universe, but I think he's planning on that as well, which is why he has his people.
One source recently stated that the Hulk does appear in Avengers: Doomsday, but only in the final battle. We know Doom has the Hulk because of what we've seen from the Endgame Encore, so he probably took him and is holding him back until that final fight. He also has his witches and Doctor Strange. If he has the Scarlet Witch, Clea, Strange and maybe Sylvie, he's going to be close to unstoppable, and then he's got the Hulk on top of that. He might have other people too.
It's just a rumor for now and obviously not confirmed. But if Robert Downey Jr.'s Doom turns out to be from the Illuminati universe, I think it would be so cool. It isn't what I think many people are expecting, and I don't think it changes the movie that drastically based on everything we know so far. It would tie Doom into the Multiverse Saga a little more, and I think it would make the movie better, with a cool twist on the origin of Doctor Doom and on the Fantastic Four.
What other creators are saying
More on Robert Downey Jr. →My theory is Downey's muscle suit is a superior Iron Man variant, not Doctor Doom, and the Doom comic hints Galactus and Valeria Richards play bigger roles. I think Galactus survives First Steps, the film heads into the X-Men universe via the X-Mansion, and Secret Wars will introduce a new X-Men lineup.
I believe Avengers: Doomsday ends with Doctor Doom unmasking to reveal Tony Stark's face, stunning the heroes as credits roll, based on Campea's 50/50 variant stance staying unchanged and his hint that Doom's face stays hidden until that climactic moment.
Avengers: Doomsday theory: does Doom unmask as Tony Stark? →
Doctor Doom may look like Tony Stark because Marvel is drawing on the What If storyline Demon in an Armor, where Victor Von Doom swaps bodies with Tony Stark in college. This would make him Victor Von Doom wearing Stark's body, not Tony Stark himself, possibly allowing Stark to later reclaim his body and return as Iron Man.
Doctor Doom theory: why does Robert Downey Jr. look like Stark? →
I think Franklin Richards, not Wanda, is set to become Doom's primary reality warper in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, while Sue Storm may emerge as Doom's true nemesis or even turn into Malice, and Valeria's return feels likely too.
Fantastic Four post-credits scene: is Franklin Doom's weapon? →
