De Dana Dan reaction: the Pacific Hotel chaos escalates

In the second stretch of De Dana Dan (2009), starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Suniel Shetty, plans fall apart, more characters check in, and the story keeps stacking up. By the end of this section our main reaction was simple: "this story has so many threads layered."

The missing dog photo in De Dana Dan

One of the first moments that got us was the hunt for the missing dog. The only photo anyone has is a picture of Nitin as a kid. Nitin works out that people think he is the dog because he is the only one missing. We pointed out that it is not even one of those computer images that age a person up. It is just a childhood photo.

Everything escalated in De Dana Dan

The scheme to go up to the hotel roof and carry out the plan carefully, so nobody ends up spending life in jail, gets wrecked when a woman arrives. The whole plan collapses on the spot. Our reaction was "oh my God, everything escalated."

The later plan has its own twist. Nitin says he will stand outside the hotel holding a white orchid so a hired man can recognize him by whispering that he was sent by the fixer Nitin had phoned. In the film, a character asks how the man will recognize him when he has never seen him. When the flower ends up in the wrong hands and leads to the wrong room, someone threatens to break down the door. The room belongs to Paramjeet Singh Lamba, the Indian ambassador. Our reaction: "this is escalated."

The Pacific Hotel keeps filling up

Almost every character seems to land in the same hotel. Guests are told to wait in the coffee shop for their keys, which we called a scam to make people use the coffee shop. As more relatives, wedding guests and people chasing money turned up, we said "this hotel is having like really good business today."

A man with an arrest warrant over bounced checks, a dowry plot, and money promised from the ambassador all piled on.
