My Reaction to Spider-Man 2's Venom Suit, Craven's Party and That Lizard Boss Chase
Watching Peter bond with the symbiote, crash Kraven's masquerade and chase a giant lizard through the East River left me equal parts thrilled and nervous for Harry.
This part of my Spider-Man 2 cutscene watch through kicked off right where Peter gets the Venom suit, and I did not know going in that he was going to be Venom in this game, so that reveal genuinely caught me off guard. What stood out immediately was how much more aggressive he sounds and fights with it on, to the point where I admitted I was so busy enjoying the combat that I did not even notice his voice had changed.
The bigger worry for me was what the suit is doing to Harry. Once Peter has it, we learn the symbiote basically jumped to him because it senses he is the stronger specimen, and MJ has to point out that without it, Harry is in trouble. That set up the emotional stakes for the whole section, chasing Kraven and his lizard serum so they can cure Dr. Connors and eventually get the symbiote back to Harry safely.
Crashing Kravinoff's Party Was the Most Fun Detour
The disguise mission at 718 Kent was a highlight for me, especially discovering the suit can turn into a tux, which genuinely surprised me since it never did that in my playthrough before. Sneaking meat past guards, meeting Kraven's actual bodyguard, and realizing his "bodyguard" is a tiger named Dima was a fun twist. I loved that the game keeps its no killing animals rule intact, we just tranq Dima with a sleeping dart instead, and I could not resist saying I would have to pet him too.
The Bell Trick and Kraven's Hidden Illness Raise the Stakes
Fighting Kraven while venomized got tense fast once we learned loud noises like ringing bells mess with the suit's frequency, and Kraven starts using that against Peter. The chemotherapy pills we find hint that Kraven might actually be dying, which I called a real curveball, wondering out loud whether this is framed as his final hunt because he is sick or because he has finally found a worthy match.
The Particle Accelerator Sequence and Fire Fight Had Real Tension
Getting the antidote stabilized meant Peter crawling into a particle accelerator while Harry, sounding more confident than before, talked him through it, and then Hunters attacking the lab and setting it on fire while the shutdown sequence needed 67 separate steps. Losing the Emily May Foundation building in the process felt like a gut punch right as Harry's dad shows up.
The Jet Ski Chase After the Giant Lizard Was a Genuine Highlight
Once the lizard goes full dinosaur sized after shedding its skin, the chase across the East River with Miles on jet skis and drones was, in my words, "a completely different type of gameplay," and I said it gave me goosebumps with the music and everything building through that sequence.
My Overall Worry Going Forward
By the end of this stretch I was fully bracing for heartbreak. I said, "I'm just fully expecting the game to be like, yeah, I'm going to break your heart and maybe do it in multiple ways," and admitted I had prepared by wearing waterproof mascara because the last two Spider-Man games have already gotten me emotional. What I am most curious about now is Kraven's backstory, since the mention of his mother and family has me hoping the next stretch humanizes him even more.
Do you think the symbiote is going to corrupt Harry, or is Spider-Man the one who ends up paying the price for it?
