Spider-Man Remastered Part 2 Reaction: cinepals Praise the Voice Acting and the MJ Mystery Twist
Achara Cook and Haley continue their 4K 60fps cutscene watch and come away hooked on the Devil's Breath mystery, Norman Osborn's power grab and Martin Lee's suspicious reaction to a demon mask.
We are back with part two of nine in our Spider-Man Remastered PS5 all-cutscenes reaction, watching the game in 4K at 60 frames per second, and this chunk of story left us with more questions than answers, which is exactly how we like it.
The overall verdict from us is that this episode is packed with mystery, backstory and fights that are woven right into the cinematics rather than tacked on, and we are fully on board. As we put it, comparing it to other games we have reacted to, "it's so well incorporated into the story I guess you would be remiss if you just took out the fights and just showed like the cinematics on its own." We noted that unlike the Mortal Kombat or Injustice cutscenes we have watched before, where fighting-game footage gets stripped out, here the combat and story constantly bleed into each other.
MJ's undercover Daily Bugle sting at the Fisk estate sale stood out to us
The Fisk estate sale sequence, where MJ poses as an art buyer to dig into Fisk's history of laundering stolen goods, was a favorite moment. We enjoyed the chemistry when Peter and MJ run into each other mid-mission, with Peter admitting it is not how he pictured meeting her again and MJ shooting back that it is exactly how she pictured it. The masked men chasing a file on something called "Devil's Breath" left us guessing, and we openly wondered if the group is connected to the same masked figures from earlier in the story.
Norman Osborn's confiscation of Doc Ock's equipment felt like a real power move
We reacted strongly to Norman Osborn showing up as mayor to seize Otto Octavius's prosthetic arm tech under the guise of safety violations, offering Peter and Octavius a spot at Oscorp instead. We called Osborn out as "really good" in this scene because of his "nice kind of slimy" energy, and we were frustrated on Peter's behalf when the grant funding disappears along with his job.
Martin Lee's fear of the demon mask has us convinced he is hiding something
When Peter shows Martin Lee the demon-symbol mask from the gallery, Lee's visibly spooked reaction and warning that MJ should drop the story stuck with us. We floated the idea that his childhood trauma explains the fear, but we admitted, "I wouldn't be surprised if later on we found out that he might have some involvement."
We also praised the voice work across the board, especially Peter Parker's performance under the mask and Aunt May sounding like "the quintessential cute old lady," and we are rooting for Peter and MJ to find their way back together as the story continues.
Do you think Martin Lee already knows more about Devil's Breath and the masked group than he is letting on?
