Breaking Bad Reaction: We Are Both Furious and Heartbroken After Season 5 Episodes 11 and 12
Watching Walt's confession tape, Jesse's breakdown, and the Civic Plaza standoff for the first time left us gutted, hopeful for Jesse, and terrified for Hank.
We went into these two episodes already dreading how close we are to the end of Breaking Bad, and by the finish we were left angry, anxious, and honestly a little heartbroken. This was one of the most emotionally packed double episodes we have watched so far, and our reactions swung from disbelief to fury within minutes of each other.
The confession tape scene hit hardest. Watching Walt frame Hank as a killer who supposedly used him as a chemist and demanded medical bill money completely floored us, we called it a full betrayal, and Marie realizing the gambling money story was a lie was one of those gut punch moments we were not ready for.
We also could not stop talking about Jesse finally seeing through Walt during the hug in the desert, then piecing together that Walt or Saul lifted his cigarette and used it to poison Brock. We said it felt like watching our own journey with the show, admitting we had been making excuses for Walt for a while before we finally turned on him too, and that Jesse arriving at that same realization now made it hurt even more.
The attempted arson at the White house, the gas soaked carpet cover story, and Skyler's reaction once she learned Walt tried to burn the place down all had us going back and forth on how far Walt has fallen. We noted Marie telling Walt to essentially take himself out of the equation, calling it a big red flag line that shows just how far things have gone within his own family.
By the time Jesse ended up staying with Hank and Marie, agreeing to be a witness, and then facing Walt at Civic Plaza with a wire and Todd's uncle watching from a car, we were bracing for the worst. We spent a good chunk of the discussion theorizing about why Walt might eventually come out of hiding, guessing it could be tied to protecting or confronting Jesse again, and we admitted we are still hoping for some kind of redemption moment for Jesse with his own family before the series ends, even though we are not confident we will get it.
"I'm actually really mad right now, I feel so much anger with Jesse." Another moment summed up the whole hour: "I love Saul just kind of standing here watching all this." And heading into the final stretch, the feeling was clear: "I hope they stay true to what they are and what they've created and end it on a note where we're actually satisfied."
Do you think Walt is coming back into the game because of Jesse, or is there another reason pulling him out of hiding?
