Tyler Rake vs Deckard Shaw: who wins in a close-range fight?
The Extraction mercenary has the endurance, but Shaw's record against tougher opponents may give him a slight edge at close range
Tyler Rake versus Deckard Shaw: who wins? I think Deckard Shaw may have a slight edge here, simply because of the kind of opponents he's used to fighting. If this fight ends up at close range, Shaw is my winner.
The two have a lot in common. Both are former special forces soldiers, both are incredibly skilled at hand to hand combat, and both apparently have a habit of taking on entire armies by themselves.
Tyler Rake survives the impossible in Extraction and Extraction 2
I'm not underestimating Rake, of course. Tyler Rake is a true beast in every sense of the word. In the first Extraction (2020), starring Chris Hemsworth, he fights his way through an entire city and takes out dozens of armed soldiers, all to protect a child. Even after being shot multiple times, including in the neck, he somehow survives a fall off a bridge.
Then in Extraction 2 he comes back and does the whole thing over again. He fights through a prison riot, gets stabbed and has his arms set on fire. He still manages to fight his way to a moving train while a helicopter chases him. Tyler's strength, skill and endurance are completely crazy. I think he's maybe better at tactical shooting, too.
Deckard Shaw has taken on Hobbs, Toretto and Brixton in Fast and Furious
The problem is that Deckard Shaw comes from the Fast and Furious world, where being a skilled fighter and a fast driver seems to make you superhuman. Shaw has gone head to head with Luke Hobbs, a man strong enough to stop an attack helicopter like Captain America.
He has fought Dominic Toretto and faced whole groups of armed mercenaries. He even held his own against Brixton, a super soldier who is something like the Terminator. On top of that, Shaw is skilled with guns, knives and any kind of weapon, just like Tyler.
Why close range combat decides it for Deckard Shaw
The only way Rake wins is if he keeps his distance and turns this into a gunfight.
But if the two end up fighting at close range, I think Shaw's physical abilities and his experience against far stronger opponents give him the advantage. He has fought a cyborg super soldier before. Deckard Shaw is the winner.
