MCU Thor vs God of War Thor: Why the Ragnarok Thunder God Wins and It Isn't Close

Stormbreaker cutting through the Infinity Gauntlet is impressive, but splintering Yggdrasil puts the God of War Thor on a different level

Put the MCU's Thor up against the Thor from God of War, and the God of War Thor wins. It really isn't all that close, and the reason comes down to what each of them has actually done.

The MCU Thor's Infinity Gauntlet feat is not what it looks like

The MCU Thor has one of the most impressive feats we've ever seen. At first glance, he overpowered the Infinity Gauntlet with all six stones. Or did he? At the end of Infinity War, Thanos fires a blast from the gauntlet, and Thor throws Stormbreaker right through it and buries the axe in Thanos's chest.

That's insane until you realize Stormbreaker was specifically made by the same guy who built the Infinity Gauntlet. The Russo brothers actually explained that the weapon was capable of counteracting the gauntlet. Thanos was also completely caught off guard, and they said he could have potentially used the stones differently if he knew what was coming. It's still an impressive feat, but it is not close to putting Thor on par with universal stones.

Still, the MCU Thor is really powerful. He survived the star at Nidavellir, and he can summon enough lightning to crack planets.

The God of War Thor killed Kratos

The problem is that the other Thor has spent basically his entire life killing gods and giants, and doing it as aggressively and violently as possible. I specifically want to look at his fight with Kratos. Thor can overpower Kratos, send him flying around and take an insane amount of punishment from the god killer.

Thor actually wins that fight. He kills Kratos. Now, Kratos was holding back in that fight, but that doesn't change the fact that Thor took his life.

Splintering Yggdrasil is a true universal level feat

That's not even the craziest thing the God of War Thor did. During Ragnarok he fights Jörmungandr, the world serpent, and hits him so unbelievably hard that he splinters Yggdrasil and knocks the serpent backward through time.

Basically, this Thor is operating on a completely different level than the MCU version. "Like, they're not even close." You can argue that Stormbreaker can level the playing field a little bit, since it was able to cut through the gauntlet, but as I said above, that is not a true universal level feat. Thor splintering the world tree, which contained multiple universes in its branches, is.

They're both going to throw a lot of lightning and hit each other hard with their hammers. "But this really isn't all that close." The God of War Thor wins.

Do you think Stormbreaker gives the MCU Thor enough of an edge to make this a closer fight?
