Shere Khan vs Shere Khan: DanCo Says the Cartoon Tiger Beats the Killer Live-Action Version
Comparing the two versions of the Jungle Book villain comes down to one surprising factor: Baloo.
Shere Khan versus Shere Khan. Who wins? On paper, the live-action version looks like it should absolutely destroy the cartoon one, but I actually think the animated tiger takes this fight.
The Live-Action Shere Khan Has the Stronger Kill Resume
Looking at this matchup at first glance, the live-action Shere Khan looks like a straight-up killer. He crushed Akela's neck, threw him off a cliff, and killed him. By the end of that movie he basically fought Baloo, Bagheera, Raksha, and the entire pack of wolves all at the same time, overpowered them, and immediately went right back to chasing Mowgli without slowing down.
Based on that resume, the live-action Shere Khan is probably the better fighter. He is more aggressive and has a far better killer instinct than his cartoon counterpart. As I put it, unlike the cartoon version, "he's not interested in playing around with his food."
Why I Think the Cartoon Shere Khan Wins Anyway
Even with that resume in mind, I still think the cartoon Shere Khan destroys him, and it comes down to Baloo. That bear is ridiculously strong. He can bend trees with one arm, rip a small tree straight out of the ground just to scratch his back, and lift massive rocks with one hand.
When the stone temple with King Louie starts collapsing, Baloo is even strong enough to help support the entire structure. That is the level of strength this bear is working with before he ever gets near Shere Khan, and it is what makes the fight that follows so telling.
Baloo's Fight With the Cartoon Shere Khan Shows How Strong the Tiger Really Is
When Shere Khan fights Baloo, the bear grabs onto Shere Khan's tail with both arms and puts his entire body into trying to stop him. Shere Khan just keeps going anyway. He drags Baloo around behind him while still trying to chase Mowgli.
Shere Khan eventually throws Baloo to the ground, bites him hard enough to make him scream, and beats him so badly that Bagheera thinks Baloo is dead. It is worth remembering that this is the same Baloo who can survive falling from huge heights, getting crushed by rubble, and even having a giant rock shatter over his head.
My Verdict: The Cartoon Tiger Takes This One
The live-action Shere Khan has fought more animals and definitely has the better resume physically. But I do not think these two are on the same level. The live-action version is basically an incredibly powerful tiger, full stop. The cartoon version is a tiger who can overpower a bear that uproots trees, breaks stones, and holds up collapsing buildings.
Eventually these two would start to wrestle, and I think it would be over pretty quickly. Shere Khan wins, and in this matchup, it is the cartoon tiger doing the winning.
