Doctor Strange vs Pennywise: Why I Think the Sorcerer Supreme Wins

Pennywise feeds on fear and illusion, which may make the master of the mystic arts one of the worst opponents he could face

Doctor Strange versus Pennywise is an interesting matchup, and I think Doctor Strange wins. In fact, Strange might be one of the worst people Pennywise could ever run into.

Pennywise's fear tricks are the kind of threat Doctor Strange handles all the time

Pennywise's whole approach is manipulating people's fears. He makes them see things that aren't there, then turns those fears into something that can attack and eat them.

The problem for Pennywise is that Doctor Strange deals with that sort of thing all the time. This is a man who has traveled through different dimensions, fought Dormammu, dealt with the Darkhold and survived fights with beings that can manipulate reality itself.

Pennywise might rattle Strange with Christine or the car accident, but only for a moment

Imagine Pennywise trying to scare Strange. Maybe he shows him Christine dying, or makes him relive the car accident that destroyed his hands. Maybe that gets through to Strange for a second.

But Strange is the Sorcerer Supreme, the master of the mystic arts. "He can see through all this stuff and knows what's real and what's not." He's definitely not going to see a giant monster crawling out of the darkness and automatically assume it's something he can't beat.

Strange has battled threats on the level of the deadlights before, from Thanos to the Scarlet Witch and Dormammu

Pennywise is going to have a pretty hard time getting around Strange's magic. Strange can create shields, portals and attacks, and he can even warp reality and travel to different dimensions.

Set aside the clown and the giant spider monster. Even if this goes all the way up to the deadlights in Pennywise's true form, Strange has battled threats on that level before. He's faced Thanos with the Infinity Stones, the Scarlet Witch wielding the Darkhold, and especially Dormammu. "Doctor Strange has been there, done that."

Pennywise might be able to make it an interesting fight, but I don't think he has what it takes to beat the master of the mystic arts. Doctor Strange wins.
