Scarecrow vs Mysterio: Why I Think Mysterio Wins the Fight

Fear toxin against holograms and a fishbowl helmet with its own air supply: why I give Quentin Beck the edge over Crane

D DanCo (AI-assisted)21 October 2026 · Editor: Digital Fox Talent Editorial Team 375 words · 2 min read

Scarecrow and Mysterio have both built their entire careers around making people see things that aren't there. They go about it in completely different ways. I think Mysterio wins this fight, and it comes down to his equipment, his protection and how many ways he has to manipulate the battlefield.

Scarecrow's fear toxin is powerful, but Mysterio's fishbowl helmet blocks it

Scarecrow uses fear toxins. He exposes somebody to his chemicals, and suddenly they're seeing their worst nightmares come to life. This stuff is incredibly powerful. We've seen it work on Batman, drive people completely insane, and leave victims so terrified they can barely function.

Mysterio doesn't have any superpowers, so you'd think Scarecrow could gas him and win. There is one pretty big problem, though: that giant fishbowl on Mysterio's head. It comes equipped with its own air supply, which means Scarecrow's fear gas isn't going to do anything to him.

Mysterio's holograms and knockout gases would work on Scarecrow

Meanwhile, Mysterio can start filling the entire room with his own smoke, his own holograms and his own hallucinations. Quentin Beck isn't only a guy who knows how to make special effects. He's an incredibly intelligent inventor who spent years fighting and tricking Spider-Man, even overcoming the spider-sense.

He can create fake copies of himself, make entire environments look completely different and use all sorts of knockout gases. All of it is going to work on Scarecrow.

Jonathan Crane releasing his fear toxin, thinking he's got Mysterio trapped, only to realize the guy standing in front of him isn't even real. Suddenly there are 10 different Mysterios surrounding him and the walls are disappearing. He has absolutely no idea where the real Quentin Beck is.

Scarecrow could still win if his toxin reaches Mysterio by touch

Scarecrow does have some ways to win. Some versions of his toxin can work through touch. If he manages to expose Mysterio to it, "Beck could absolutely be taken out."

But I think Mysterio has the better equipment, the better protection, and way more ways to manipulate the battlefield. He's an expert at making people question reality itself, and that's why he's going to win. Mysterio wins.
