Miles Morales vs Blade: Why the Vampire Hunter's Skill Beats Spider-Man's Raw Power

Miles has the edge in strength, but Blade's technique, speed, sword and experience decide this Marvel matchup

Put Miles Morales, the Ultimate Spider-Man, up against Blade the vampire hunter, and I think Blade takes the victory. Miles is stronger, but Blade is far more skilled and physically close enough that Miles is just a bit too outclassed here.

I see this as a fight of strength and power against skill and expertise. That contrast is what keeps it interesting. Before getting to the reasoning, here is what each fighter brings.

Miles Morales hits hard enough to injure superpowered opponents with one punch

This version of Spider-Man was originally created in the Ultimate Universe. Miles is a 16 year old kid from Brooklyn who took on the Spider-Man identity after Peter Parker's death. He was bitten by a spider of his own, discovered spider powers, and set out to be the best superhero he can be. At the time, Miles was in the main Marvel Universe and a member of the Champions.

He is superhumanly strong and can lift and press several tons with no real problem. He has tossed police cars and lifted trucks. He can draw blood and injure superpowered opponents with a single punch. Spider-Man has to pull his punches and kicks, because otherwise they could be fatal to a normal human.

His body is also tougher and more durable than an average person's. He has taken explosions, been blasted through skyscrapers, and withstood attacks from someone like the Rhino.

Miles has spider agility, Stark web-shooters and a sharper spider sense than Peter's

Like every Spider-Man, Miles is superhumanly agile, with reflexes 20 times greater than a human's, and he can easily perform extremely complicated acrobatic moves. He can jump around and weave through automatic gunfire, and he can cling to any surface using just his fingertips and toes.

His mechanical web-shooters were designed by Tony Stark, and they are powerful enough that he webbed up and restrained Ms. Marvel even while she was giant.

Miles also has a spider sense that alerts him when danger is nearby, much like Peter's. His actually seems greater than Peter's. One night Miles dreamed he was being attacked by Electro, while in reality Electro was attacking Peter Parker miles away.

Venom strike and camouflage give Miles tools Peter Parker does not have

Miles has abilities Peter does not. He can apply his bioelectric field and temporarily paralyze enemies just by touching them with his hands, an attack that has knocked out giants. He can also completely camouflage himself, clothes included, to blend into his surroundings and sneak up on enemies.

Blade is a human vampire hybrid with all of the strengths and none of the weaknesses

Blade has all the strengths of a traditional vampire but none of the weaknesses. His mother was bitten by a vampire while pregnant with him, and he has dedicated his life to destroying the occult world of vampires and everyone associated with them. He does still have a strong thirst for blood, so he injects himself with a specially designed serum that provides the same nourishment.

His exact strength limit is not specified, but he can lift at least 2 to 5 tons. He has overpowered a vampire Spider-Man, jumped hundreds of feet in the air, and beheaded vampires with his bare hands. He has superhuman speed, can easily dodge gunfire, and has a flash step where he moves so fast it looks like he teleports. His vampiric nature gives him a form of immortality, great durability against physical attacks, and a healing factor similar to Wolverine's.

Blade is also a master martial artist, proficient with essentially every known melee weapon and several martial arts forms. He can hold his own against multiple enemies and adapt to any fighting style thrown at him, armed or unarmed. He is a skilled marksman with automatic and semiautomatic weapons and throwing knives, and he is a master swordsman who usually fights with a sword.

Miles is stronger than Blade, but strength is not the deciding factor

Miles is incredibly powerful for a kid, but his fighting skill is not on par with Blade's. Physically, the two are fairly close. Miles is stronger, but Blade can still lift 2 to 5 tons. Some people put Blade's strength as high as 10 tons, "but honestly that's a bit overblown," and the lower range is more realistic.

Even so, I do not think the strength gap decides this fight. It would only show directly if the fight came down to a wrestling or grappling contest, like in the ancient Greek Olympics, or a straight brawl where the two swing away with no thought behind it. Yes, Miles will pack more power behind his punches, but Blade is so much more skilled that he can mitigate a lot of that damage through blocking, strike deflection and superior technique.

Blade's gear also lets him hurt Miles without trading blows. Their durability is fairly close. Miles can take more blunt force than Blade, but Blade has a healing factor, and with swords and guns in play, blunt force durability might not be enough to keep Miles from being injured.

Blade's speed means Miles will not outpace him

Miles reportedly has microsecond reactions, according to Tony Stark of all people, so we can probably trust that, and it might make him seem much faster than Blade. That is not true. Blade has shown enough speed over the years that if there is a gap, it will not really matter, and he will not be outpaced to any notable degree.

He has reacted to and dodged bullets, moved so fast that time appears to slow down, and moved so fast he essentially disappears in front of you. Most impressively, he kept pace with a vampire Spider-Man who was trying to kill him. On physicality, Blade can hang with Miles.

No one can argue Miles is the more skilled fighter than Blade

I don't think anybody can make an argument that Miles is the more skilled fighter. "I just wouldn't even try because it can't be done." Blade knows fighting styles like Krav Maga and has proven he can adapt to pretty much any style, armed or unarmed.

He also brings guns, throwing knives and swords. I don't know how effective bullets and throwing knives would be against Miles, given how agile he is and his spider sense. He has weaved through automatic gunfire like it was nothing. Blade is an excellent shot and might squeeze in a lucky one, the way the Punisher has shot Spider-Man before, but for the most part Miles would dodge those bullets.

Blade's sword is the weapon that matters against Miles

Thanks to his speed, Blade can swing his sword faster than a bullet. That is believable, since he has reacted to bullets and cut them in half with his sword. With it, he fought the vampire Spider-Man who was trying to kill him, and he will definitely be able to use his sword speed and skill to take on Miles.

The venom strike is Miles' best hope, but he often forgets it

The last thing to consider is Miles' venom strike. It seems to affect whoever it touches, even defeating someone like Blackheart. But it is not infallible. It has failed to take down some opponents before, like Taskmaster, who is definitely less powerful than Miles or Blackheart. And because of his inexperience, Miles casually forgets to use it.

Miles forgets his venom strike in pretty much every fight he is in, and usually he remembers in the nick of time or a powerful attack jogs his memory. That does not scream a winning majority to me against Blade, especially considering Blade's superior skill and equal physical ability. I think Miles is just a bit too outclassed, and Blade takes the victory.

Does Miles' venom strike give him a real path to beating Blade, or does Blade's skill win out?
