Avengers: Doomsday 'Let's Go' TV spot and my theory that Thor learns Doom is the enemy at the TVA
A new spot puts Thor at the center of the warning about Doctor Doom, and I think Loki may be far more involved than Marvel is letting on.
Another Avengers: Doomsday TV spot has arrived, mixing scenes from the previous spot with new scenes and new dialogue from Thor. From what I can see, Thor seems to be the only one who is dialed in on Doctor Doom. My theory is that Steve Rogers' opening line points to a trip to the TVA, and that Loki is far more central to this story than any of the promos have shown.
The new "Let's Go" or "Team Up" spot debuted after the World Series Game One preview.
Steve Rogers opens the spot having been talked into Thor's plan
The spot starts with Steve Rogers saying "Let's go." I'm pretty sure they're aboard the Fantastic Four ship at this point, or else in the Baxter Building or the new Avengers building. Wherever they are, he's definitely been talked into whatever plan Thor has.
Remember, Steve will initially be recruited by Reed Richards and by someone he thinks is an ally, Doctor Doom, to help stave off the incursions. At some point, though, Thor is going to get clued in that Doom is their enemy. That's where the voiceover comes in: "Doom will tear this world apart." The line follows with a call for the heroes to team up and stand together.
The Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men probably won't split along team lines
The spot tells us there are three specific teams involved: the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. That probably doesn't denote the exact teams the heroes will split into, because we know from some of the scenes that each group will be a mix.
Some of the heroes will travel to the 10005. Some will gather on the 616 at the new Avengers building. Others, still drawn from a combination of all three teams, will make their way to the 828 and the Baxter Building.
Why does Thor know Doom is the threat when nobody else does?
The question being asked here is how Thor knows Doom is the threat he is when none of the other heroes do, including the Fantastic Four and the rest of the X-Men and Avengers. Why does Thor have to tell them Doom is the enemy, and why do we then have to hear from Sue Storm what happened to him?
I think this ties into what we may be seeing in that opening scene. There's a good chance that at some point Steve brings up to Thor that his brother Loki showed back up as a TVA agent and gave him a calling card of sorts in case he ever needed to reach him. It could also come out that Loki is the one who relocated Steve and Peggy to the 828.
It's logical to assume that upon hearing Loki was alive and had visited Steve, Thor would want to see him, whether or not it's the exact same Loki. With a multiversal collapse looming, Steve would most likely add that Loki works for an organization that's supposed to keep the multiverse working and helped him relocate. Thor would instantly want Loki's counsel and help against Doom.
I wonder if 'Let's go' means a trip to the TVA
So when Steve says "Let's go," I'm wondering if that isn't the exact moment he tells Thor he knows how to reach Loki, and the two set off for the TVA. It may be during that visit that we find out, at least from their perspective, that Doom is the villain and not the ally.
When Thor returns with Steve from a completely destroyed TVA, that may be when he gives this lecture about the danger Doom poses and how frightening this is.
The San Diego Comic-Con TVA booth showed the TVA under attack
We know the TVA is going to get attacked at some point, and not because of the plot leaks that have indicated as much. Earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel had a TVA booth and attraction tied into Doomsday. It started in the normal TVA, but by the time you got to the end, the TVA had been destroyed. It was very clearly under attack, and we most likely know who that attack comes from: Doctor Doom.
I'm wondering if it's this event that clues in Thor, and maybe Steve at the same time, to the threat Doom poses. Then Thor can inform everyone that Doom is not on their side and not trying to help stop the incursions. He's the reason the incursions are happening in the first place. That's the same questioning we see from Reed Richards when he realizes as much.
Three universes left should push Loki to act
We can loosely reconstruct a timeline from the post-credits scene set in the TVA, because by the end of it there are only really three universes left. So what's Loki's reaction to that? I'm not asking how he let it collapse in the first place; maybe he's limited in what he can do while sitting on the throne. I'm asking what his next steps are in Avengers: Doomsday once it's whittled down to three Earths.
One of them happens to be the 616, the original timeline he hails from. That would certainly be some sort of impetus, some sort of catalyst, for him to get involved. With Marvel sandbagging the trailers and trying to hide major details, I think there's a good chance Loki is way more involved in the story than any of the promos have led on.
Loki may already be moving against Doom
There have already been some theories that Loki was posing as Steve Rogers, or standing alongside him, when Thor remarks that's impossible. Here's my thinking. Loki was already able to travel up and down the timeline to some extent and pause time completely, and he may have had a bird's eye view of what Doom was lining up as he tried to manipulate all these heroes.
It's my contention that Loki may be working in advance by moving Steve over to the 828, the exact same timeline Doom is already in. That may have been a strategic move against Doom, and that may be the level Loki is playing on. He's now the savior of the multiverse, so to speak. It's under his care and, by extension, the TVA's.
It's hard to imagine a Loki who wouldn't have seen this coming, unless Doom was able to keep his whole objective cloaked. The idea that the multiverse would collapse right in front of him, leaving three timelines including the 616, and Loki wouldn't react doesn't add up. Something is definitely going on here.
Thor's 'that's impossible' may be about Loki, not Steve
Something may be going on when Thor remarks that's impossible. I don't think it's about Steve returning, and it's not about Steve wielding Mjolnir. It's about Loki standing beside him, a Loki Thor already saw die in Avengers: Infinity War.
We're in the Doomsday stretch now. This is one of those TV spots I anticipated would start dropping one after another, each with a couple of new frames or a couple of new lines of dialogue. That's the way Marvel has done it up until now, and there's no reason to think it'll change for Avengers: Doomsday, which means we're getting a ton of new looks at the film over the next month and a half. I think Loki may play a much bigger role in this film.
