Avengers 7 Is Reportedly Titled Judgment Day, With Early Concept Art Said to Be Underway
An insider report claimed Marvel Studios had started early work on an Avengers film set after Secret Wars, one that could pick up Arishem the Judge and the threads Eternals left hanging.
In July 2026, a fresh insider report claimed that Avengers 7 carries the title Judgment Day and was in the earliest stages of development at Marvel Studios, apparently far enough along that concept art had already been drafted. If the title is right, it points back to something from early in the Multiverse Saga, and I think that, if they pull it off, it is the perfect Avengers follow up to something like Secret Wars.
I am well aware that at that point we were not even to Avengers 5 yet, and we were not out of the Multiverse Saga. I was also still holding to my belief that there will be another Avengers Secret Wars somewhere in the distant future with the return of Doctor Doom. Still, the report was worth digging into, both for what it says about the storyline and for what it says about how Marvel Studios plans.
James Mac reportedly named Avengers 7 as Judgment Day
For some quick context, about a week before this report, Alex Perez, an industry insider and contributor at The Cosmic Circus, posted a big update on what was going on with Secret Wars, Doomsday and beyond in the MCU. One of the things he mentioned was an Avengers 7.
Less than a week later came word from the Twitter scooper James Mac. No scooper gets everything right, but James has established a pretty spot on track record in the short amount of time he has been around, so take that as you will. According to James Mac, an Avengers 7 with the title Judgment Day was in the earliest stages of development at Marvel Studios, but apparently far enough along that concept art had already started being drafted for the film.
Early concept art for Avengers Judgment Day is not as strange as it sounds
I know the natural reaction for a lot of people is to ask whether it is far too early to be producing concept art for Avengers Judgment Day when Secret Wars is not even out yet and Judgment Day would sit at the end of the next saga. Not so fast. The Avengers Secret Wars concept art that came out was from an official Marvel artist, even though the Russos claim it was not for them, and that just proves how early that kind of work was being generated. That art was from years before it leaked, and at the time of this report Secret Wars was still a year and a half off.
Kevin Feige has said the next saga runs through 2032, which put us only six or seven years away at that point. So it is perhaps possible that Marvel has artists working that far down the road. You can build to a movie much better if you know what movie you are building to and what you are trying to accomplish there.
Marvel Studios looks like it is finally planning ahead
That is a luxury I do not think Marvel Studios has ever had before. They knew they were going to use Thanos, but they did not know exactly how, and they were putting it together as they went along. They had amazing success in the Infinity Saga. Maybe not so much so far with the Multiverse Saga.
The reports, though, all point the same way: the Russos will stay on and oversee the next saga, Kevin Feige will cut back the number of movies and TV shows to increase his bandwidth and keep quality control on the projects, and Marvel Studios will be a lot more deliberate about which franchises and characters it focuses on. That all adds up to a studio that, for once and two decades into the mix, is finally figuring out how to plan ahead. That means a shorter timetable, a more reasonable process, and working out the movie they are building towards instead of winging it along the way and then retroactively trying to move all the pieces on the chessboard.
My real worry is Doctor Doom being rushed through two films
I have been very transparent that I have only had two real sticking points, and I have even been able to look past one of them, which is Robert Downey Jr. coming back to play Doctor Doom. They literally could have cast anybody else, including Cillian Murphy, but I have gotten over that.
What still concerns me is that Doom will be ushered in, rushed through, suddenly become God Emperor Doom, and have his story wrapped up in about 14 months across two films. Doom is just not the kind of character you put out to the curb for good after a one and done, or should I say a two and done. That is why I could see an Avengers sequel to Secret Wars maybe five or ten years down the line.
Judgment Day could revisit Eternals and Arishem the Judge
In the meantime, if Avengers 7 truly is Avengers Judgment Day, it means Marvel is going to revisit where we left off at the end of The Eternals. Say what you will about that film, it has some of the best cinematography Marvel offered during the Multiverse Saga. The huge downfall was that everybody was clamoring for another Winter Soldier in the wake of losing Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, and what we got was an arthouse film focusing on characters that were never really that popular in publishing in the first place. You can see how it looks in the rearview mirror.
That does not mean there were not some interesting threads there. I can picture the Avengers teaming up with the X-Men and the rest of the MCU cast in the 616 to battle the Celestials, specifically Arishem the Judge. Where they left off with Sersi is just when that storyline was getting interesting, with Dane about to pick up the Ebony Blade, and with the offscreen first MCU appearance of Mahershala Ali.
Disney will always make Avengers films, so the story has to be reinvented
As long as Disney owns Marvel Studios, it will always keep making Avengers films. That is why every time someone hints at no more Avengers, I chuckle. The billions keep getting invested into that franchise multiple times a decade, and there is no turning around now. We will probably be getting Avengers 14, 15, 16 and 17 when I am a much older man.
The only way Marvel can keep this process going without putting out the exact same films over and over is to find ways to reinvent the story it tells at the end of each saga. It sounded like they had a road map for doing just that with Doomsday and Secret Wars, and thank God, not simply remaking Infinity War and Avengers Endgame.
The next saga could go cosmic with Nova and the Annihilators
There is a real possibility that the next saga will not simply focus on mutants but on the cosmic side as well. We already know Marvel is reprioritizing a Nova project. Then I think about probably my favorite team in all of Marvel, the Annihilators. Just when it feels like Marvel might run out of things to do, we were about to see Avengers versus the X-Men, and then the Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four teaming up against Doom.
Imagine a whole new lineup of cosmic characters like Beta Ray Bill, Gladiator and Silver Surfer alongside some of the terrestrial Avengers. They will not all make sense fighting a Celestial, but the lineup could look very different. The whole MCU could look different with the introduction of the Midnight Sons, and possibly an X-Force on top of the X-Men. Judgment Day could be a loose interpretation, since the MCU always does things its own way with elements from a lot of different storylines, and there are plenty of stories still left in the comics. In fact, as soon as I heard this story, I had already figured out how I think that saga might end, which hero might be at the forefront, and exactly what he might do to beat Arishem. It is really up to Marvel how creative it wants to be.
Why I doubt Avengers Judgment Day would be a one off
Judgment Day would be an amazing next Avengers film. My only caveat is that Avengers movies have become too much of an event to have a one off, and I do not believe we would get just one Avengers Judgment Day. But consider that the saga is being cut down. This is not a rumor, an insider report or even a Hollywood trade story; it comes from Kevin Feige. 2028 to 2032 is the length of the saga, or at least what has been planned out over the next five years.
So instead of back to back Avengers films, could they do Judgment Day, then later, as we approach the end of that saga, an Avengers Secret Wars part two with Dr. Doom still in the mix? Maybe he will be around for the whole saga. We will have to see. Season 2 of X-Men '97 was an absolute banger, and it worked with multiple villains in Kang and Apocalypse, plus Magneto until its latest episode at the time, weaving it all together. It feels like they know how to handle multiple villains and storylines at once; they just need to translate that to live action.
If the report is true and Marvel was already looking down the road to Avengers 7, that is exactly the kind of planning and continuity needed for Marvel Studios to evolve into the studio it did not get a chance to be during the Infinity Saga, when it was new and figuring things out, and the studio we all thought it would be during the Multiverse Saga, minus some of the events and choices the studio made over the previous five to six years.
