Avengers: Doomsday Final Trailer Could Drop Next Week, Rumor Claims
A Twitter scoopster points to October 22 or 23 for the next look at Marvel's December release, as an insider says the studio wants to wow fans, maybe with characters not yet shown
A new rumor suggests the next Avengers: Doomsday trailer might be right around the corner, possibly arriving at the end of next week. It's coming from a Twitter scoopster, and I'd tell you to leave it directly in the rumor category for now.
We've been hearing about this trailer for a while. Even as early as late July, right before San Diego Comic-Con, and then again at the beginning of September, industry insiders were indicating it was coming. We also heard some new details about what Marvel is willing to reveal in this next look, with the studio reportedly wanting to wow fans. I'll get to those details below, along with what these dates would mean for the Marvel marketing cycle over the last two months of 2026.
A Twitter scoopster points to October 22 or 23 for the Doomsday trailer
This news broke in the last couple of days. Some people were messaging me about it from other social media sites, and we traced it to a Twitter scoopster we're not too familiar with. This person has been in the community for a while, but we haven't reported on them before, which is why I'm telling you to treat this as a rumor.
Apparently, according to this account, the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer could drop on October 22nd or 23rd, which is Thursday or Friday of next week. To be fair, even without that update, and just as a shot in the dark, we'll be within the two month mark of Doomsday actually hitting theaters on December 18th. I cannot believe how fast this year has flown by, and that I can say that by the end of next week we'll be less than 60 days away from it hitting theaters.
So whether it's coming next Thursday or Friday or a week or two after that, we are on the eve of what will be referred to as the final trailer for Avengers: Doomsday.
Why the 'final' Avengers: Doomsday trailer won't be the last footage
As I've remarked before, they're only going to call it the final trailer because it's the second trailer, the one after the teaser, with the special look we got in between. There will still be plenty of TV spots and promos, plus official clips that will run on late night shows. It will not be the last we see of Avengers: Doomsday, just likely the final two minute trailer or clip they're willing to show us.
I think it's reasonable to assume they're not going to wait until a month out from release to give us that. We're probably going to get it in the next two weeks anyway.
Insider James Mack says Marvel wants to wow fans, maybe with characters we haven't seen
The more detailed update about this trailer comes from industry insider James Mack, and credit where credit's due: he now has two scoops in the last three months that have ended up coming to fruition. I like to point that out because a lot of people wonder from time to time what the track record is for sources that aren't The Hollywood Reporter or Deadline. James Mack is rather new to the scooping game, say only the last two years, but his track record is starting to speak for itself, to the point where I feel a lot more confident reporting on what he's getting.
No scooper, even Daniel RPK, gets 100% of everything they scoop. But there's a reason Daniel RPK is still around, and it's because his batting average is pretty good. For James Mack, it's the same.
One of his updates about this final trailer was that Marvel Studios wanted to go one step further in wowing fans and give us something we haven't seen for Doomsday already. That could mean showing characters we haven't seen yet or who haven't been confirmed for the ensemble. Mobius was one of the characters he named as appearing in this final trailer, as well as Doctor Strange.
Showing a masked Doctor Strange may not land with casual fans
The Doctor Strange part was a little bit curious to me at the time, and it still is. Showing Doctor Strange technically wouldn't mean showing Benedict Cumberbatch's character as we know him. It would mean showing him in one of the Doom costumes. Even though they put those costumes on full display at San Diego Comic-Con and in posters, they've only cut around frames of them in the trailer. The only reason we'll know it's Doctor Strange is because his Doctor Doom mask will have a third eye.
Those of us who follow this closely are all caught up. But think about the lay fan who maybe saw Spider-Man: Brand New Day as one of the Marvel movies they've seen recently, of maybe the last two or three years, and who has some interest in Avengers: Doomsday because of the Avengers title. They may see something like this and completely miss that it's Doctor Strange. Maybe they didn't see Multiverse of Madness, or they haven't been keeping up with the rumors. It's hard for those of us who have heard every plot leak to think about fans who have no idea.
Showing a character completely cloaked or masked, in a way that's supposed to drive ticket sales for the lay fan, just isn't the same as putting an unmasked Benedict Cumberbatch on screen and saying, "Hey guys, look, Doctor Strange is in this one." The same goes for any character. According to the update, that's what this trailer wants to do: really stand as the last push for anyone who doesn't have tickets yet.
Opening weekend tickets for Avengers: Doomsday are already hard to find
Speaking of tickets, if you don't already have them for opening weekend, you're going to find it pretty rough. I booked two pairs for opening day, which is actually my fiancée's birthday. I'm going at 1:00 p.m. and then we're going again at 11:00 p.m. that night. If you look now, you can find the odd single seat here and there at the back of the theater or really close up front, but there are not groups of tickets left.
I wonder if Marvel might expand into other theaters, because obviously the goal is to sell more tickets. But at some point, if you max out every seat in every theater you're in, it's not like they can build more. They could take over screens from other films that aren't selling as much, or increase the number of showings, but they're going directly against Dune, which isn't going to relinquish any of its IMAX theaters, or theaters at all.
Doomsday could do two billion like Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Marvel Studios' tracking on this film has been very strong. We heard months ago from a Disney exec that they were somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 or 50 million dollars in pre-sales, and now the number has climbed to almost 100 million or north of 100 million.
I don't think it's fair to compare Avengers: Doomsday's box office to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, because Spider-Man is and will always be a way more popular character. Still, Marvel Studios has put billions into the Avengers brand, and they just went out of their way to remind everybody about Avengers: Endgame and these characters. You have to imagine that if Spider-Man: Brand New Day could do two billion, then Doomsday could, too. And there's no world where doing 2 billion dollars at the box office is a failure under any circumstance.
It seems like the appetite for a good, seriously toned Avengers film is there. We all want that movie. It's going to be interesting to see, though, how Doomsday sets us up for Avengers: Secret Wars, and whether that same sort of urgency and persistence is there.
Do you feel Marvel should show more of Avengers: Doomsday in its final trailer, or has it shown enough already?
