Avengers: Endgame Encore Reportedly Adds a New Intro, Bonus Scenes and 7 Minutes of Runtime

An industry insider claimed the rerelease would run longer and end by leading straight into Avengers: Doomsday, and I was wary of where that path might lead

Avengers: Endgame Encore will reportedly arrive with a new intro, new bonus scenes and an ending sequence that leads directly into Avengers: Doomsday. The insider who shared those details also said, with a caveat to take it with a grain of salt, that the rerelease would be 7 minutes longer than the original film.

When I wrote this on July 19, 2026, tickets for both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Endgame Encore were set to go on sale at the same time the next day, July 20, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern. The Encore release itself was then a couple of months away. I had hoped Marvel would have the good sense to leave what is a classic, an absolute masterpiece of Marvel cinema, alone and only add things at the end. Apparently, they were going to add a lot more than that, throughout the movie from the beginning to the end.

Cryptic 4K Quality says the Endgame Encore ending will lead into Avengers: Doomsday

The latest came from the source Cryptic 4K Quality. He has been around for quite some time and first came onto the scene with new trailer details years ago. He has established himself as a trusted source in the industry, but no scooper gets everything right, so take that as you will.

His latest quote reads: "I hear that Avengers Endgame encore will have a new intro, new bonus scenes, and the ending sequence will lead directly into Avengers: Doomsday. Take this with a grain of salt, but I'm also hearing it will be 7 minutes longer than the original film." That runtime claim is the part he flagged himself as less certain, and it is the part that concerned me most.

The Doomsday bridge footage and a Russo brothers intro do not worry me

Based on details we already knew, we assumed the new footage shot for Avengers: Doomsday as a bridge would basically be treated as a one shot from the Marvel days of old. Those were always awesome, and I don't really know why they stopped. That new footage, as I understood it, would come at the end, basically as a scene after the credits in a spot where the original film had none. I have no problem with that, because it comes after the movie ends.

From other details we had discerned, the new intro should actually come from the directors. In other words, there would not be a new beginning to the film itself. It would be Joe and Anthony Russo thanking the audience, that kind of thing. I am not concerned about that either. My worry is reserved for the extra 7 minutes the insider referred to, and what that might mean for the actual runtime of Avengers: Endgame.

Extra footage inside Avengers: Endgame reminds me of the reworked Star Wars versions

Before getting into it, it is worth remembering there were tons of bonus scenes for Avengers: Endgame spread across different Marvel releases. That includes the Infinity Saga box set, which was its own limited release and had a disc with scenes where the CGI was not even finished for Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Sure, Marvel could clean up some of that CGI or add some of that original material in.

But people were saying this would be footage that had not been released before, obviously still from the original principal photography. I hate the idea of them putting new footage in. It reminds me of the reworked Star Wars versions. Avengers: Endgame is a classic that does not need to be messed with. It is what it is.

I especially hate the idea that it is being tinkered with basically because Marvel wants to market something else. As I put it at the time, "I just don't like the idea of Marvel Studios doing this." Admittedly, they have been really good about this so far. They don't have director's cuts, and they aren't putting out different versions of their films. This would simply become the Avengers Endgame Encore version, and to me that sounds exactly like what happened to Star Wars. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's not that big a deal, and maybe others feel totally differently, but I at least feel some kind of way about it.

Why Marvel likely needs new Endgame material to sell Encore tickets

I totally understand the business side. We can all watch Avengers: Endgame on Disney Plus anytime we want, and how many times have we all done that since it came out years ago? If Marvel didn't add extra bits, there would be no real reason to see it again in theaters. They obviously cannot justify charging big ticket prices for what might be 5 or 10 minutes of bridge footage for Doomsday.

At the end of the day, there is no way they could say, in effect, here is a 10 minute one shot for Doomsday, so go spend money on movie tickets to see Endgame again. Adding material is the best way to do it, and it also gets everybody back into the box office to pump up those numbers and try to inch Endgame closer to taking the number one spot.

Still, as a fan I think it is worth exploring where Marvel draws the line. What kind of precedent are they setting if they can rerelease Avengers films, change a couple of details or add a couple of things, and then attach new footage for the next one?

New Doomsday footage inside Avengers: Endgame would cross a line for me

Everything above is about Marvel adding bonus principal photography they had already shot for Avengers: Endgame. If they dared to shoot new footage during the Doomsday shoots over the last two years and put it anywhere inside Endgame, that would be a totally different story, and it would be me losing my mind. I think they have better sense than that, and I was not going to worry about it beforehand, because it seems so far outside what Marvel Studios would be willing to do.

So I assumed the additions were bonus footage from the original principal photography, and that they would never add anything new to the middle of the movie. Otherwise there would be a true chasm between the original Avengers: Endgame and the new Encore. Unless Marvel planned to replace the original on Disney Plus, there would be two versions sitting there, which is the exact opposite of what you want from a brand standpoint. That is why Marvel never put out director's cuts, and why they have been strict about the length of their movies. To me, this starts to wander down a very interesting and maybe treacherous path, and as a fan I am cautious about it.

Avengers: Doomsday tracking suggested Marvel was not worried about ticket sales

I was ready to get my tickets at 9:00 a.m. on July 20 and wait to see exactly what Marvel was willing to add. Plenty of fans had speculated that a full Avengers: Doomsday trailer would drop that Monday, arguing that it would only be logical to release one if Marvel expected people to buy tickets for a movie that technically did not have a full trailer yet, although we did have the previews.

My view was that the tracking on this movie was going to be insane, and it already had been, so I was not sure Marvel Studios was that worried about selling tickets. Some fans also said that putting tickets on sale on a Monday, or two weeks before Spider-Man: Brand New Day, showed how scared Marvel was. I have no idea what that has to do with anything. The tracking had already made Doomsday one of the biggest movies, definitely the biggest movie of the year, even over The Odyssey and Spider-Man. Unless the metrics were totally off, I expected it to clearly make a couple billion. It's the Avengers franchise.

Where do you think Marvel should draw the line when it comes to adding footage to Avengers: Endgame?
