Kid Buu god ki: why it doesn't make him the strongest Buu

Chapter 66 of the Dragon Ball Super manga revealed divine energy inside Buu's line, but untrained god ki settles nothing in the old Kid Buu versus Buuhan debate

Kid Buu god ki: why it doesn't make him the strongest Buu

The god ki reveal in chapter 66 of the Dragon Ball Super manga doesn't prove that Kid Buu is the strongest Majin Buu. The chapter showed that Uub had a large amount of god ki inside him, enough to help Goku defeat Moro. Some people quickly started using that reveal to claim Kid Buu beats Buuhan. I think that's the worst possible point you could make in that argument.

Soon after the chapter, I got a comment telling me I'd have to change my ranking of the strongest Buu. I've removed the person's name because I don't want them attacked or made fun of. Their argument was that Kid Buu inherited divine energy from the Grand Supreme Kai and the fat Majin Buu didn't. So, they said, Kid Buu was the strongest Buu all along, not Buuhan.

The Kid Buu versus Buuhan debate doesn't need Dragon Ball Super

If you want to argue Buuhan against Kid Buu, you can have that debate without Dragon Ball Super at all. It has been going on for years and it's still going on. You have every right to believe whatever you want about which Majin Buu is the strongest. Debaters, YouTubers and people across the fandom have their own ideas about this, and I respect all of them.

But this particular argument needs a little more thought. Kid Buu and Buuhan were once the same being. Kid Buu is the result of having all of the beings inside Buuhan extracted. When that Buu still had fat Majin Buu inside him, along with everybody else he had absorbed, he obviously had the Grand Supreme Kai in there too. They just never pulled the Grand Supreme Kai out.

None of this is new, either. It was discussed several chapters earlier in Dragon Ball Super, during the Moro arc. The manga also explains that the split happened when Buu and Kid Buu separated, not when Buu was first created. It just so happened that the god ki stayed with Kid Buu rather than fat Majin Buu. To me, that's common sense Dragon Ball lore. Maybe you don't remember it, which is fine. Everybody forgets things once in a while, including me.

God ki means nothing if Kid Buu can't use it

Now for my second point. Let's say Kid Buu had god ki inside him the entire time. There's no point in having god ki if you don't know how to use it. Kid Buu is a being that's purely savage and purely evil, and he has never been trained. He has never trained with an angel or with anyone who uses god ki. So no matter how much god ki Kid Buu has as the purest Majin Buu, he doesn't know how to use it.

To use god ki, you have to train for it. That might mean doing the ritual Goku did, training with Whis, or learning how to adapt your body to it. Even if Kid Buu had tons of god ki, it won't do him any good if he doesn't know how to train it. Having that potential inside you means nothing on its own. "It's like having a gun with no bullets. What good will it do you?"

Dende and the Supreme Kai show god ki isn't automatic power

Think about who else has god ki. The Supreme Kai has it. Dende, as Kami of Earth, has it too. If god ki alone made you stronger, then Dende and the Supreme Kai would be more powerful than Piccolo, more powerful than Krillin and more powerful than anybody without god ki. That obviously isn't the case. God ki doesn't automatically make you more powerful than anybody else.

The same goes for ordinary ki. Dragon Ball has explained many times that every being on Earth has ki, but it has to be harnessed. Look at what happened when Gohan trained Videl, and when other characters trained. A regular human can train, learn to use ki and become a powerful fighter. We've seen that in Dragon Ball several times. God ki is no different: it has to be trained and harnessed.

Why this argument hurts the case for Kid Buu

Some people have argued, respectfully, that Kid Buu is the more powerful Buu, and they're entitled to that view. But using this reveal to try to prove it is bad logic, and it makes the whole argument fall apart. People sometimes try so hard to prove someone wrong that they don't stop for two seconds to look back at what the series has already shown.

Dragon Ball has some cool material beneath the surface, and I love talking about its deeper meanings. But it isn't high chemistry, and it isn't rocket science. I've said this many times over the past five years: before you say something, think for two seconds and try to debunk yourself first, especially when you're trying to make somebody else look bad.
