Geekdom101 Says Dragon Ball FighterZ Story Mode Still Beats Sparking Zero
Picking back up a story mode playthrough after a month away, I found new things to love about the game's tributes to the manga and its take on Cell.
I finally got back to the Dragon Ball FighterZ story mode playthrough I had put on pause for about a month. The reason for the gap was simple: Dragon Quest came out and, as I put it, "it took over my life as it tends to do whenever a new Dragon Quest comes out." So this session was about picking up where I left off, working through a run of story mode fights including battles against Clone Captain Ginyu, Clone Vegeta and Clone Frieza, and getting back into a groove with the roster.
My overall verdict on the game held up strong through this session. At one point I said flatly, "I love this game, bro. I love all the tributes to the manga. I like the colors," and later added a direct comparison to the other big Dragon Ball fighting release: "I like Fighters more than Sparking! Zero." I also singled out Gotenks as one of the more enjoyable characters to actually play in this game, calling him fun to use during one of the fights.
Praise For Cell's Japanese Voice Actor Stood Out
One of my strongest specific reactions during the playthrough was about the voice work behind Cell. Watching the character in motion, I said, "Norio Wakamoto's incredible as Cell, bro. Phenomenal performance," specifically pointing to the moments when Gohan is beating Cell down as a highlight for that performance. I made a point of saying that praising a Japanese voice actor doesn't mean anything negative toward the English dub side, noting Dameon Clarke did well too.
I Was Genuinely Unsure Whether Piccolo Or Broly Is Stronger
When the question came up of who is stronger now, Piccolo or Broly, I called it "not a bad question, honestly" and gave my lean toward Piccolo, specifically Orange Piccolo, as the stronger of the two. But I kept that hedged, saying, "I could be wrong on that because we don't know how much training Broly underwent. We just don't know." I also admitted I wasn't sure how Broly would even be aware of certain power gains if nothing on screen explained it, saying it might have happened off screen but that I genuinely didn't know.
Where do you land on the Piccolo versus Broly power question?
