Two Gogetas Face Fu in Super Dragon Ball Heroes, and Fusion Takes Over the Episode

Gogeta Xeno Limit Breaker SS4 debuts, two Gogetas team up, and a Goku and Goku fusion appears to be teased, but the promotional anime delivers more of the same

The Super Dragon Ball Heroes promotional anime returned with an episode built around fusion, fusion, fusion, debuting Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta Limit Breaker and putting two Gogetas side by side against Fu. It looks like the show is going in a very different direction, but it's also a little bit more of the same. If you like fusions, you're going to like this, because everybody's fusing, and I think Bandai recognizes how popular fusions are, so they're going to milk them as much as they possibly can.

Gogeta Xeno Limit Breaker SS4 debuts alongside Gogeta Blue Evolution

This episode gave us the debut of a form that had been teased for a while: Gogeta Xeno Limit Breaker SS4, which is Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta with Limit Breaker power. We talked about Limit Breaker a few months earlier, when Super Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker was first revealed with Goku and Vegeta. Now we have the fusion of Gogeta 4 with that same Limit Breaker power.

We also saw Gogeta Blue Evolution. It's not really his debut, but what I mean is that we saw two Gogetas working together for the first time. One is Gogeta from the Time Patrol, and the other is the Gogeta Blue who debuted in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, here in the upgraded Blue Evolution version.

Will Gogeta Blue Evolution ever reach the main Dragon Ball Super story?

Seeing this in Heroes does make me wonder whether the next time we see Gogeta in Dragon Ball Super, whether that's the manga, the anime or a movie, they're going to skip Blue Evolution altogether and just give him something like a UI or UE thing. Usually, when Heroes has its exclusive forms, they stay in Heroes. They rarely show a form in Heroes and then actually put it into the story before it makes its debut in the anime.

There are some exceptions. The first time we ever saw Super Saiyan Blue was in Heroes, but that was for a specific promotion of Resurrection F, way back in 2015. So I wonder if we're ever really going to see Gogeta Blue Evolution in the main Dragon Ball Super story.

A fusion between Goku and Goku appears to be teased

It appears they're teasing a fusion between Goku and Goku. I'm not kidding: Goku Xeno and the Goku with the Capsule Corp logo on his gi are apparently going to be fusing. What's that going to make, Goku squared? I don't know, and I don't even know that it's going to happen. It's just being teased.

Fu fuses with the dark time bird before Super Saiyan 4 Broly and Cumber arrive

The first fusion in this episode actually wasn't Goku and Vegeta at all. It was Fu. He explains to Goku that he has fused with the evil counterpart of the time bird, the bad one, and he has tapped into an incredible new power.

As if that wasn't enough, Fu attacks, and then Super Saiyan 4 Broly appears and goes after Goku. Then Cumber and Hearts appear, and Cumber is able to withstand and block Broly. I've said it a million times: power scaling in Dragon Ball Heroes is fun to talk about, but it's never going to make any real sense. We always knew Cumber was really, really powerful, but this is getting out of hand.

Fu defuses both Gogetas almost instantly

After that, the two Gogetas attack Fu. Fu powers up, and he's so strong that he's able to defuse them just like that. So if you're looking for a big epic fight between the two Gogetas and the fused Fu, you're not going to get it. That's typical of the Dragon Ball Heroes anime: it's rush, rush, rush. You get a good fight once in a blue moon, and otherwise it's all about a new character, a new card, or a new upgrade of a character so it can become a card.

Fu isn't only strong enough to defuse both Gogetas. He also warps the two Vegetas, Xeno Vegeta and Dragon Ball Super Vegeta, into another dimension, which is crazy. That leaves the two Gokus.

The Supreme Kai of Time saves the two Gokus and powers them up

Then the Supreme Kai of Time appears, finally doing something, since she doesn't do much in these stories. She saves the two Gokus from Fu's attack, and I'm thinking to myself: if you're that strong, why don't you fight them yourself? They don't even think these things through.

She then somehow manages to unlock the power of the two Gokus. I don't even know if fuse is the right word, but it's sort of like what the old Supreme Kai did, except she did it in seconds. That's what it appears happened, and she kind of combines their power. The two Gokus power up, and that's the cliffhanger.

A two Goku fusion wouldn't be the first exclusive fusion in Heroes. There are fusions like Gohan and Trunks, and adult Gotenks, and a lot of different fusions in Heroes that don't appear in the main story. So two Gokus fusing really isn't that crazy. I think it's a decent, cool idea that probably could have been saved for an actual movie and made a ton of money, but they're using it in Heroes because they have to come up with something new every month.

Why I think the Heroes anime feels like artificial hype

People were discussing an interview in which the guest talked about working with Bandai to help out with the Dragon Ball Heroes anime, and about hoping the anime brings in new audiences. Well, it might. I really don't have numbers to say whether it does or it doesn't. But as far as entertainment value goes, it's very, very low.

I've said this every single month, except for the few good episodes we've had: this is all artificial hype, and it's all about creating a new card for the customers of the game. There are great concepts, and the Super Dragon Ball Heroes manga is usually a lot better than the promotional anime. The episodes are only eight, nine or ten minutes long, and in the past I've said it's not going to kill you to give it ten minutes. But I don't even know if it's worth it at this point, because it's the same thing over and over again.

Seeing two Gokus fuse is kind of a cool idea in theory, but we know it's not really going to be that awesome. Then again, who knows, maybe they'll deliver a really nicely animated episode. At this point, the best we could hope for from Dragon Ball Heroes is at least one decent fight in the entire thing.

Heroes is no replacement for Dragon Ball Super

I remember when the Heroes promotional anime was first announced, and there was all this talk about how they were going to shift directions and do Heroes instead of Super for a little while. That is what they did. Dragon Ball Super had a lot of problems, but Heroes is by no means a replacement.

You can check it out if you want to spare the ten minutes. The animation in this episode was not the best it could be. You could also do what some of my friends do: wait for more episodes, stack them up, and get through the whole arc in one sitting. At that point it looked like the arc was going to come to an end with the next episode, giving us a resolution before moving on to the next arc.

The Super Hero news turned out to be a letdown

The official Dragon Ball account on Twitter was making it seem like there would be some big news for the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. In the end, it was just one statement about how they're using new technology in the film, and that's all we got. It was a big letdown. I hate when they do that, because people get hyped up for nothing, and there was nothing there to cover since they didn't announce anything.

It was the 11th anniversary of Dragon Ball Heroes, which they were going to promote, and it's a very popular game in Japan. I'll cover it, but I feel like most of us over here don't get to play Heroes, so we aren't as invested in it as we are in the movies, the manga and the anime. My thoughts on this Heroes episode: more of the same. At the very least, I'm hoping for better animation next time.

Would you rather see a two Goku fusion stay in Heroes or be saved for a movie?
