Goku Black Grandista Figure's New Logo Does Not Mean an Enhanced Edition Is Coming Yet

A new figurine with the updated Dragon Ball Super logo sparked talk of a reworked Goku Black and Tournament of Power arc, but here is what I have actually been told

A new Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black Grandista figurine carrying the updated Dragon Ball Super logo has people asking whether this means an enhanced, Kai style edition of the Goku Black arc, and maybe even Tournament of Power, is coming soon. I want to go through exactly what that logo means and what I have actually been told.

What the new blue Dragon Ball Super logo on the figurine actually signals

The original Dragon Ball Super logo, the one with yellow kanji, ran from 2015 to 2018 and kept being used even for Broly and Superhero after that. The newer blue logo, which some people have nicknamed the blooper, was introduced not just for Galactic Patrol but for Dragon Ball Super Beerus as well. That new logo exists to signify the return of Dragon Ball Super after so many years off television following Dragon Ball Daima.

The point of the new logo is to let people differentiate between the original 131 episode run of Super from 2015 to 2018 and what I am calling the new era of Dragon Ball Super. Little by little, as time goes on, that new logo is going to show up on more merchandise. Seeing it attached to a Goku Black figurine is what led some people to believe it is a sign that the Goku Black arc is being recut like a Dragon Ball Super Kai.

Why the Goku Black Kai talk started and how the plan already changed once

This really started last year, when I and a few others became aware that there was a plan to put together a Kai cut of Super, fixing animation issues, pulling in manga elements, and cutting some material to streamline the story. Originally the talk was that the entire series was going to get this treatment, and I was not the only one under that impression. Then around late spring, the animation staff working on that Super remake got moved over to work on the Moro arc instead, and I have been giving updates on that all summer, including when the Beerus part was finished and when the Resurrection F part was finished.

Earlier this year I was directly told that heavy work on the Goku Black arc was being discussed, that it would get chopped up next whenever they got to it. Then I was told the opposite: that it is not the case, and that it is just the first three arcs getting this treatment. Plans change, and I do not want to bring up 2019 again, but they obviously do change when it comes to anime releases.

My take on whether Goku Black and Tournament of Power will eventually get this treatment

Do I think they are going to do the Goku Black and Tournament of Power arcs eventually? Yes, I think eventually they will. But from everything I have gathered, including double checking, that is not the plan for right now. For now, Dragon Ball Super Beerus is a recut, streamlined version of the first three arcs of Super playing out as one big arc, with events happening in a different order than the original, a lot cut, other things enhanced, and some surprises I am not going to spoil.

I do not think the new logo showing up on this figurine is an indicator of the Goku Black recut happening right now. I think the new logo is going to be slowly implemented across upcoming merchandise, and some figurines are still going to carry the original logo for a while yet, possibly until next year or even the year after that is phased out. Going forward, expect the new blue logo on most if not all future merchandise. If you put a gun to my head and asked whether they will eventually do Goku Black, yes, there is no question there were legitimate plans to do it, and I think even the staff believe the Moro arc is going to be much bigger since it is new anime content.

A possible year by year roadmap, though I want to stress this is not inside information

What I am about to say is a possibility, not inside information, so please do not treat it as confirmed. I would not be surprised if the order goes like this: Dragon Ball Super Beerus now, then the Moro arc in 2027, then the remainder of Dragon Ball Super the year after that, and then Granola the year after that. I do not know for sure, because right now there is no episode count for the Moro arc, it is still heavily in production, and updates are not expected until at least December or January.

As of right now there is no announcement of Dragon Ball Super being featured at Jump Festa or another Genki Damatsuri style event, but those announcements usually land around October and early November, so it is still a bit soon to write that off since it is only late September. I do think October will bring something, at least enough to know whether the Jump Festa announcement is happening, unless it ends up being a late announcement. I think we will get a better idea of when the first Moro trailer drops too, and I do not think it will be far from what people expect, probably shortly after or shortly before the end of Dragon Ball Super Beerus, which runs from October to February.

Do you think the Goku Black arc deserves the same enhanced treatment Dragon Ball Super Beerus is getting, or should the story move straight into new Moro arc content first?
