Ultra Ego Vegeta vs Granola Fan Animation Delivers Speed and Two Distinct Styles
A collaboration between Red-Haired Guy and Blue Animation offered a fan's preview of how the Dragon Ball Super fight might look if it were ever adapted.
The fan-made Ultra Ego Vegeta versus Granola animation, a collaboration between Red-Haired Guy and Blue Animation, is a lot of fun, and I really love the speed of it. I'd reacted to Red-Haired Guy's work a few months earlier, and this all-parts-combined cut gives a little preview of what the fight may look like if and when it gets adapted to the Dragon Ball Super anime.
At the time, the Granola arc was still ongoing, and we knew another arc would follow it in the manga in 2022. One can only assume the anime will follow suit with Moro, Granola and whatever that new arc turns out to be.
The speed of the Vegeta and Granola exchange is the highlight
The music fits pretty well. I hadn't heard the theme before. Obviously the anime would use different music. Some early movement is a little stiff, but not bad, and it's still good for a fan animation. In the anime his hands would be moving and so on.
What I really love is the speed, from the headbutt to the sequence where buildings get smashed in the city on Planet Cereal. "I love how quick it is and I hope it's like that when it actually gets adapted."
Red-Haired Guy and Blue Animation bring different styles that both work
Red-Haired Guy's work has sort of rubbery, fluid motions, while Blue Animation's is a more detailed style. Dragon Ball Super: Broly had both of the animators those styles bring to mind working on it. Some complained it wasn't consistent, but I liked it. "As long as it looks good and feels good, that's the most important thing for me."
Blue Animation's cut stands out because the style is very different, and I really like it. The catch is that it's very time consuming. These fan projects take a lot of time, and frame by frame is difficult. The cut has been described as splendid animation with a style inspired by a particular artist. I'd compared it to someone else because that's how it felt to me, but I could see it, and both are great.
The gods of destruction transition is a standout
When Vegeta explains to Granola that there are beings called gods, the animation transitions through the different gods of destruction from the 12 universes. "That's beautiful, man." It's a beautiful way to show that stylistically, and shout outs to Red-Haired Guy for it.
Wanting more until an official version arrives
By the time Blue Animation's second stretch came around, I just wanted more. "Honestly, I want more." Fan projects deserve support, and someday we'll get an official version of this fight, but in the meantime this whets the appetite. I liked it and had a lot of fun with it.
Which part of the Ultra Ego Vegeta versus Granola fight would you most like to see animated?
