Moro Is Coming to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, but Not in the Base Game
The game's producer says the Galactic Patrol arc will reach the game after its 2027 launch, in line with the long-standing anime-first rule
Moro is coming to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, but he won't be there when the game launches. In an interview with TheGamer, the Xenoverse 3 producer said the Galactic Patrol arc will eventually make its way into the game, just not as part of the base game when it launches in 2027.
Whether Moro will show up in Xenoverse 3 is one of the questions I've been asked most often, and for years I've given the same answer. Now there's an answer from the producer himself. It's good news, but you may have to be a bit patient.
Xenoverse 3's producer says the Galactic Patrol arc will reach the game after launch
This came to my attention through LevelUp, which reported on the interview the producer gave to TheGamer. At first I thought LevelUp was just a new name for TheGamer, but they're different sites. LevelUp reported on the interview, and TheGamer is where the producer actually addressed the question. He was asked about Moro because people are very excited about the arc.
As reported, the producer was asked whether players should anticipate an adaptation of the Galactic Patrol arc, and he "offered a measured response." According to the report, while "the arc will eventually make its way into the action RPG," it will not be part of the base game when Xenoverse 3 launches in 2027. So the good news is that you're going to get Moro. The bad news is that he won't be in the game when you first buy it.
The reason, from what I understand, comes down to timing. The Dragon Ball Super Galactic Patrol anime isn't scheduled to drop until 2027, so the arc is going to begin in 2027 and likely run into 2028. Until we have an animated Moro, he can't be in the game. He'll arrive as DLC.
Why Moro and Granolah have been kept out of Dragon Ball games
Many years ago, I was told directly that because of some kind of agreement between Bandai, Shueisha and Toei, manga characters who hadn't yet been adapted into anime would not make it into games until the animated version of their story comes out. That includes Moro and Merus, along with Ultra Ego Vegeta, Gas, the Heeters and Granolah.
I know many of you think that's silly, and I kind of agree. I think they kind of leave money on the table, because people have wanted Moro in these games for years, and there have been Moro mods for ages.
It's no different from what happened with Daima and Super Hero. If you've wondered why the Daima characters were put into Sparking! ZERO while the Granolah arc and Moro arc characters weren't, this is why. There has to be an animated adaptation first. It probably has to do with the models, but I don't know the exact details. I couldn't tell you exactly why. It's some kind of deal made between Toei, Bandai and Shueisha.
The anime-first rule applies to Dokkan, Legends and the arcade game too
This doesn't just apply to Xenoverse. It also covers the new arcade game that replaced Heroes, as well as Legends and Dokkan. So when the Galactic Patrol anime starts, expect to see these characters make their way into the games.
I can't give you dates for any of this, because I don't have the schedule. What I can tell you is that once that anime is rolling, that's when you'll start seeing these characters finally pop up in the games, because they always have to go to anime first. I know a lot of you have been asking about this for years.
How long Xenoverse 3 DLC could run is still an open question
Xenoverse 2 had almost an entire decade of DLC. The game dropped, and DLC packs kept coming for what felt like forever. I used to joke that I'd just gotten back from the future and a farmer with a shotgun was now in Xenoverse 2. I made jokes like that for ages, but I never really thought it would last that long.
When it comes to Xenoverse 3, I can't tell you for sure that it will get ten years of DLC. It might, or they might put out Xenoverse 4 before then. I can't see the future, and I don't think even Bandai can answer that right now. What I'm sure of is that Moro is going to be in the game, just not when you first buy it.
That's not just Moro, either. It also includes Granolah once the anime version of that arc begins, which I don't predict will happen until 2028. So if you've been waiting for Granolah, Ultra Ego Vegeta or the Heeters, that will come later, and it may be a longer wait.
Xenoverse 3 will introduce a new kind of God of Destruction
I've reported before that this game will introduce a new kind of God of Destruction. I've speculated about what their role might be in the game, but I won't go into that here, because I think it's too much of a spoiler. What I can say is that these are Gods of Destruction tasked with destroying timelines.
That's something I find really exciting, because it's a new type of God of Destruction and a new type of god. Some people have compared them to the Supreme Kai of Time, but I don't know about that. As for how they look, try to imagine something like dinosaurs and Digimon. I know some Digimon already look like dinosaurs, but that's the idea.
Toriyama's contributions mean new lore beyond the main Dragon Ball story
There's a ton of material that Toriyama, along with others, contributed to Xenoverse 3, and I think we're going to see it sprinkled in little by little. That means there's still going to be a lot of new material in the game that isn't even part of the main Dragon Ball story.
The games kind of have their own continuity. Mira and Towa have never been in a Dragon Ball anime or manga, outside of maybe the Heroes anime, which was made as a promotional anime for the games. I can't say never, because anything can happen, but you haven't seen game-only characters in Super or Daima so far.
The point is that Xenoverse 3 will open up new, exclusive, lore-based parts of Dragon Ball. Even if you're not excited for the game, as someone who's into lore, I'm definitely going to play it, because I want to learn more about what it adds to the overall Dragon Ball world. I'm sure the gameplay will be fine, but I'm more interested in what the story is going to be.
Moro is coming, but Dragon Ball fans will need patience
So the good news is that Moro is coming, and that includes Dokkan and Legends. But it might mean waiting a little longer for Granolah. As Dragon Ball fans, we kind of have to be patient.
I haven't always been the most patient person myself, so I can relate. Still, I think this is great news.
Which Galactic Patrol or Granolah arc character would you most want to see added to Xenoverse 3?
