Geekdom101 Plus Clarifies: Two New One Piece Movies Are Confirmed, Not a New Dragon Ball Film
A report about two upcoming Toei Animation films got misread as Dragon Ball news, but the confirmed titles are God Valley and a second One Piece movie for 2027 and 2029.
A report surfaced a while back about Toei Animation having a couple of movies scheduled for the coming years, and a lot of people assumed that meant Dragon Ball. That is not what is happening. I covered this on the main Geekdom101 channel already, and I think I may have posted it here too, but I wanted to put out a clear version of this one specifically as a clarification rather than actual Dragon Ball news.
Toei Animation announced a new One Piece film, God Valley, due in 2027, and its teaser trailer is already out. There is also a second One Piece film coming in 2029. So that is the two movies people were talking about: two One Piece films, one for 2027 and one for 2029, not a new Dragon Ball movie.
The Dragon Ball Movie Rumor From A Couple Years Back
If you have been following along, you know I discussed a rumor of another Dragon Ball movie a while back, about two years ago I want to say. That was just a rumor, and I covered it because a lot of people kept asking me about it, but there was nothing at all being talked about internally at the time.
I mentioned back then that one of the people I spoke to during the Daima days was asking around his own office to see if that rumor had any basis. It didn't turn up anything. So right now, the plan is not to make another Dragon Ball movie for a while.
I am not saying there will never be one. Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero were both incredibly financially successful for Toei internationally, and Toei knows Dragon Ball is a huge hit. It is just that Toei is still focused on getting everything they can out of One Piece right now.
Why Toei Is Prioritizing One Piece Right Now
I understand the frustration of being a Dragon Ball fan wanting more product. I have been wanting the manga to come back for a while myself, and I genuinely do miss covering Dragon Ball, miss being excited for the next manga chapter or the next anime episode.
"Thank God in heaven that I have like other businesses going on and things that I'm able to use to help me during these dark times," because otherwise it would be tough to stay patient. But that frustration does not change what Toei is actually doing, which is putting its energy into One Piece.
What Dragon Ball Fans Can Actually Expect Next
The Moro arc is coming next year, and Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is coming in a few months. Besides those two, there are no plans for anything else beyond that, with the possible exception of the Granolah arc.
I am not presenting that as a scoop, just logic. When the Galactic Patrol arc ends, the Granolah arc would logically be next. That is the extent of what is confirmed or reasonably expected on the anime side right now, and there is no Dragon Ball movie coming out next year.
One Piece Versus Dragon Ball Is Really About Different Markets
There are two One Piece movies confirmed, and there are rumors of a third one coming after that. People need to understand that in Japan, Dragon Ball is obviously respected, but One Piece is currently the highest selling manga.
I don't really want to get into the One Piece versus Dragon Ball feud, especially since I am probably going to start watching One Piece soon with the new anime update. But One Piece is very popular in Japan, and although it has not hit the level of international penetration that Dragon Ball has hit, Toei is still trying to service the Japanese market while hoping the international market picks up for One Piece too.
One Piece may someday be seen internationally as a Dragon Ball-esque project. Right now though, Dragon Ball is the bigger franchise around the world, not probably, it just is, while One Piece remains the biggest property out of everything Toei has in Japan specifically. There are more announcements coming from Toei beyond this, but this clarification was the point of putting this one out.
The Fake Rumors Spreading On Social Media
There were a lot of fake rumors on Instagram tied to all this, including one about a Vegeta movie and another about a remake of the Namek arc, things that don't even make sense and have no basis in reality at all.
I hate when lies get spread like that. Every time I report something that turns out not to be true, I try to quickly correct it and flag that it was bad information. Some of these Instagram pages just don't care about doing the same, and I don't like people being misinformed, but there is a lot of that out there and people buy it regardless.
So that is the story: two upcoming One Piece movies, God Valley in 2027 and another in 2029, not a new Dragon Ball film. If you're a fan of One Piece, that's good news, and I'm planning to start watching the new rebooted anime myself to see how I feel about it.
