Who Is Hallows' Eve? Tracing Janine's Path From a Guilty Visit to Limbo to a Werewolf Mask Bank Heist

Hallows' Eve's story starts with Ben Reilly's decline. Shortly after his clone struggles began wearing on him, Ben renamed himself Chasm and started a partnership with the Goblin Queen, who also ruled Limbo.

Janine's transformation happens because she goes directly to the Goblin Queen. She was feeling guilty that she could not do anything to help Ben Reilly, and she told the Goblin Queen how much she wanted to help him take down Beyond. The Goblin Queen responded by giving Janine the powers to do exactly that. That single exchange, guilt turning into a request for power, is how Hallows' Eve was born.

The three of them settle into Limbo and turn on Venom

Once Janine had her powers, the three of them, Chasm, the Goblin Queen, and Hallows' Eve, all lived together in Limbo. From there they teamed up to manipulate Venom into helping carry out their plan. It worked for a while, but they eventually lost control of the situation when Venom was defeated by Peter Parker.

Hallows' Eve voiced a desire to go after Peter directly and destroy him, but the Goblin Queen stopped her because they still needed Venom back for their plan.

The Goblin Queen strikes a truce with the X-Men

The Goblin Queen eventually got her own memories back with help from Jean Grey, and that recovery led her to make a truce with the X-Men. That truce is what left the couple, Chasm and Hallows' Eve, alive rather than dealt with by the X-Men directly.

From there, Chasm and Hallows' Eve made their move. They stole the Scythe of Sorrows and used it to take the throne of Limbo for themselves. With the throne in hand, they started sending an army of demons to attack New York City, "naturally, cuz that's just what you do."

The Goblin Queen reclaims Limbo and Janine is left to fend for herself

The demon attack did not last. The Goblin Queen was able to take the throne of Limbo back from the couple, and she locked Ben away as a result. But she did not do the same to Janine. Instead, she sent Janine away specifically to protect her from suffering the same fate as Ben.

That decision left Janine, as Hallows' Eve, on her own, and she turned to committing crime. When she eventually managed to get Ben out of his prison, she started robbing banks. To do this, she used her werewolf mask, which ended up turning the security guard into a werewolf himself.
