House of the Dragon Episode 9 Review: The Story Reaches a Turning Point

Following the aftermath of Viserys's death, episode 9 pushes the show into its most intense stretch yet.

Episode 9 of House of the Dragon keeps getting better. Watching it, I felt like the first eight episodes were an amazing prologue setting up what this show really is, because episode 9 is where all of that setup pays off.

I am not going to give away real spoilers here, but there is one thing worth flagging before going further. This is a spoiler for episode 8, so if you have not seen that one yet, consider yourself warned before reading on.

The Aftermath of Viserys's Death Kicks Off an Intense Episode

Now that we have seen the aftermath of Viserys's death, all hell breaks loose. Watching what happened in that last scene of episode 8 play out into episode 9 is something else. The race is on, and a lot of crooked maneuvering goes down as different sides start making their moves.

From start to finish, this episode is intense.

The Character Who Nearly Became Queen Has an Amazing Episode

The standout of the episode for me is the character who nearly became queen. She has an amazing episode here.

Through her storyline and others, you start to see where certain people are going to land, who is going to be part of the greens and who is going to be part of the blacks. There is a lot going on beneath the surface, and so much depth packed into this episode that it is genuinely fantastic to watch unfold.

Smaller Stories Are Branching Into a Much Larger One

This is such a great story overall from beginning to end, and a big part of that comes from all the investment built up since episode one.

There is also creepy Game of Thrones material that you knew from the original series making its way into this episode. Alongside that, other political threads are developing, and the smaller stories we have been following are starting to branch out into a much larger story.

My Verdict: This Is the Best Show on Television

This is the best show on television right now. There is nothing touching it. I like other shows on television, but nothing compares to what House of the Dragon is doing at this point in the season, and I cannot get enough of it.

What did you think of episode 9? Did you like it, did you not like it, and compared to last week, did you think it was better, worse, or about the same in how it moved the story forward?
