House of the Dragon Episode 4 Delivers the Political Intrigue That Hooks Me Most About Game of Thrones

A quick reaction to the fourth episode praises Rhaenyra's growth, Milly Alcock's performance, and a scandal that reshapes the marriage question at the center of the throne.

My immediate reaction to episode four of House of the Dragon is that this is exactly the kind of political intrigue I love about Game of Thrones, and it is a show I am completely invested in right now. As I put it, "i'm just so invested in this show man and it's just the stuff i like about game of thrones and that's the political game of thrones." This episode picks up on the aftermath of Daemon returning to King's Landing from the previous episode, and it sets off a major scandal that raises new questions about who Rhaenyra will end up marrying, which matters for keeping the throne stable.

King Viserys also has a lot going on in this episode, not just with his health but with the strife that comes from being king, which I noted is something we have seen play out before with other rulers on this show. There is enough happening in the episode that I watched it a few times and found new things clicking into place, including a moment that made me think something could potentially happen again later, though I did not want to spoil anything by getting into specifics.

The character I think stood out most in this episode is Rhaenyra. "i think she is um has absolutely come into her own," and I credit Milly Alcock with crushing it in the role. I also pointed out how far my own grasp of the show has come: when I first started watching, I could not remember any of the characters' names, but now I know all of them, whether it is Viserys, Daemon, or Hightower.

Overall my verdict is that this is the one show right now that leaves me wanting more the moment it ends. "it's the one show that when it ends like oh man i wish i had like 15 more minutes 20 more minutes and i can't wait until next week." Each episode has gotten me more intrigued, and I said a full spoiler review was coming the next day for anyone who wanted the deeper breakdown.
