House of the Dragon Episode 8 Delivers Some of the Season's Biggest Political Drama

A dramatic legitimacy dispute, a time jump that only ages one character, and standout performances make this one of the most important hours of the season.

House of the Dragon episode 8 is one of the most important episodes of the entire season. This is a non-spoiler reaction to the episode.

There is another time jump in this episode, and the only character who actually ages from that time jump is poor Viserys. No one else ages, even though they are supposed to, including the kids, but they still look good. Viserys is the only one who takes what I called "the old bump."

The Legitimacy Fight Between the Greens and the Blacks Escalates

Beyond the time jump, this episode is about things getting more and more intense between the Greens and the Blacks. There is a major event that goes down concerning the legitimacy of a particular line, and whether or not a title is going to be handed over or taken away from a certain person.

It all goes down with everybody in the room together, leading up to a few dramatic moments, a few big major moments. What I love about this show is that there are not massive big battlefield sequences. It is able to hold attention purely through the politics, the family drama, and the sheer number of characters, and you are still able to follow it all.

Alongside the central legitimacy question, the episode is full of side deals being made and maneuvering going on in general.

Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke Deliver Standout Performances

Once again, performances by both Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke are stealing the show for me. There are a lot of great performances throughout this entire episode, but those two stood out again in this installment.

There were a few different times Emma D'Arcy was talking where I thought this felt like watching a more seasoned Milly Alcock.

Paddy Considine's Viserys Anchors What May Be His Episode

Paddy Considine, playing Viserys, gets what I think is probably his episode. This one belongs to him, even with everything else going on around the legitimacy dispute and the family drama.

The show is just so superior than any other show on television at the moment.

Did you think this episode was important, or not important?
