Kristian Harloff's Instant Reaction to Across the Spider-Verse: "An Intricate Story"
Fresh out of the theater, the reaction to the animated sequel praises its emotional depth, score, and painterly animation.
I just walked out of Across the Spider-Verse and my immediate reaction is that this movie tells an intricate story to say the least. It works as a love story between Miles and Gwen, but underneath that it is really about discovering oneself, and from what I saw it is done very well.
For anyone who has followed Miles Morales, this is the payoff moment. Miles is finally becoming the star that everybody kind of wanted him to be, and he gets there inside an animated universe that, in my view, plays the entire Spider-Man universe well.
The Emotional Core And The Score Stand Out
What hit me most coming out of the theater was how emotional the film is. On top of that, the music is fantastic, the score is really, really good, and it adds a huge amount to the story being told on screen.
The Animation Builds On The First Film Like A Living Graphic Novel
Visually, this continues everything the first movie started. Every frame looks like a painting, like something pulled straight out of a really great graphic novel. That style is a big part of why I was so engaged in the story itself, because the visuals never take a back seat to the plot, they pull you further into it.
Overall, this is a first impression straight from the theater rather than a full breakdown, but the verdict is clear: an intricate, emotional story about Miles finding himself, carried by a fantastic score and animation that keeps pushing the first film's graphic novel look even further.
Did Across the Spider-Verse live up to the hype for you, and how do you think Miles' journey to becoming a true star lands compared to the first film?
