Kristian Harloff Says House of the Dragon Episode 5 Is 'One of the Best'
The episode's slow build finally ignites, all without giving away a single spoiler.
Episode 5 of House of the Dragon is a masterclass in political intrigue, and it might be one of the best episodes of the show yet. That is my spoiler free verdict, and I could not stop thinking about it afterward.
The Politics Build for a Good Ten Minutes Before Everything Ignites
Without giving anything away, there is a stretch of roughly ten minutes in this episode where the tension becomes almost unbearable. As I put it, "it feels like somebody turned on the gas and then you were just waiting for someone to just turn on a lighter and just blow the whole thing up at some point." That is exactly how it played out for me.
Every episode raises the stakes around a certain relationship or event, and by the time you reach a pivotal moment, you are desperate to know what happens because of everything that has been built up over the previous episodes. That is exactly what happens here, particularly as the story closes in on a central marriage and the controversies from the past that come back to affect the future.
Every Scene Feels Memorable, and This Episode Is No Exception
I keep saying this every week, but every scene in this show feels memorable and important, and episode 5 is absolutely no exception. "This is incredible, this episode, so good, one of the best," is how I described it right after finishing it. It is one of those episodes where the story as a whole comes together in a way that makes the entire build worth it.
"I love this episode. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time," sums up my reaction better than anything else. This was my immediate, spoiler free take. I am also putting together a spoiler heavy review and a separate full reaction to go along with this one, for anyone who wants a deeper breakdown once they have seen the episode themselves.
What did you think of the way the politics paid off this week?
