Hunting 100 Spider-People in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, From Miguel O'Hara to Spider-Byte

The filmmakers behind Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse say they created 280 spider people for the film. Half of them are really background characters, distinguished mostly by color and other unique characteristics. With the help of our writers, I went through the film several times with one goal: to identify at least 100 spider people.

I love doing this because these cameos are, in my words, "freaking Bonkers." Below is the full list in the order I counted them, starting with the heroes you already know and working down to the nameless faces in the mob. At the end I will tell you whether I think I actually hit 100.

Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy and the core heroes open my count

Number one is Miles Morales from Earth 1610, and you know him. Two is Gwen Stacy from Earth 65. Three is Peter B. Parker from 1610B. Four is Pavitr Prabhakar from Earth 50101. Five is Miguel O'Hara. Six is Miles G. Morales from Earth 42.

Seven is Jessica Drew from Earth 404, and eight is Hobie Brown from Earth 138. Then come three old friends from the first film: Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker and Spider-Ham. All three make cameos in this film.

Spider-Byte, Ben Reilly and Lego Spider-Man bring in the voices and animators

Number 12 is Margo, known as Spider-Byte, from Earth 22191. Next is Ben Reilly, the Scarlet Spider, voiced by Andy Samberg. Then there is Spider-Man 1967, a 2D Spider-Man voiced by Jorma Taccone. After him comes the Lego Spider-Man, who was animated by a 14 year old.

We also meet Peter Parkedcar from Earth 53931. The Insomniac Spider-Man shows up from Earth 1048. The Spectacular Spider-Man appears too, with Josh Keaton coming back for the role, and Spider-Man Unlimited also turns up in the film.

Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland all make my list

I counted the three live action Peter Parkers as well. Number 20 is Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker, because he shows up in the web of life and destiny. Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker also shows up in the web of life and destiny. Tom Holland's Peter Parker from the MCU makes it because he is referenced, although he stays off screen.

From there, the Web Slinger, Pat O'Hara from Earth 31913, appears. There is a popsicle Spider-Man who makes a little blob of a cameo. A spider person from Earth 835 is in there, and Spidercide is mentioned from Earth 616, which I find interesting. There is also a spider person from Earth 312500 and another from Earth 1610A.

Spider-Cat, Sun-Spider and Metro Boomin's Spider-Man fill out the crowd

Spider-Cat is the one who claws at Miles' face. Spider-Rex is in the film too. Charlotte Webber, the Sun-Spider, makes her cameo complete with a great crutch pun. Then there is Spider-Wolf, and Metro Boomin's version of Spider-Man also makes a cameo.

The cyborg Spider-Woman is the biggest, clunkiest spider person you see in the mob. There is a Canadian Spider-Woman, aka Spider-Canada, who is often carrying a hockey stick. The Flash Thompson Spider-Man, aka Captain Spider, is often wearing his letterman jacket. Chibi Spider-Man is the little fella who is always hopping around.

Mabel Reilly, Mayday Parker and the spider armor suits

Mabel Reilly from Earth 803 is a steampunk lady spider with mechanical waldos. Mayday Parker from Earth 616B is here, along with a Manga Verse Spider-Man who has interesting gloves. There is also the Bombastic Bag-Man, with the brown paper bag on his head.

I counted Spider Armor Mark I, Spider Armor Mark II and Spider Armor Mark III separately. Then there is a traffic cop Spider-Man, and Ezekiel Sims, who I describe as the therapist Spider-Man. Max Borne, a friend of Miguel O'Hara, is Spider-Man 2211 from Earth 9500.

Mary Jane Parker, aka Spinneret, comes from a 2015 limited run Renew Your Vows storyline, and her daughter Annie May Parker, the Spiderling, appears alongside her. Of course, there is a Spider-Monkey who shows up.

Future Foundation, Superior Spider-Man and the hulking Bruce Banner Spider-Man

Next on my list is the Future Foundation Spider-Man, then Doppelganger, and also Spider-Knight from Ultimate Spider-Man. The Prince of Arachne from Earth 71004 is here. Jessica Drew appears again in Spider-Woman's classic suit, and Julia Carpenter's Spider-Woman is in there too.

There is a samurai Spider-Man and a quippy spider person. Superior Spider-Man is the Doc Ock who is in control of Peter's body. The Stealth Big Time Spider-Man suit appears, as does a Velocity Suit from the Spider-Man games.

Then there is a very, very thick Bruce Banner Spider-Man. He is part of the control unit in Mumbattan when the canon event starts to fall apart. He is the most muscular Spider-Man in this film, because he is a Hulk.

Iron Spider, Kaine and a Spider-Man 1978 who did not cameo

There is an Iron Spider, the red one with the yellow pattern over it. Peter Parker from Neversoft's 2000 Spider-Man game appears. There is a Shocker Spider-Man, who just looks like the Shocker with the shoulder pads, and Kaine Parker's Scarlet Spider.

Spider-Man 1978, Takuya Yamashiro, did not cameo in this film. As I put it, "I assume he's gonna come in the next one," but Phil Lord says the character is designed, so I counted him. Rounding out this stretch are an Underoos Spider-Man, a Dormammu versus Spider-Man, and a She-Hulk Spider-Woman.

Anya Corazon's Araña might be my favorite

The next one, I said, is one "I think might be my favorite honestly": Anya Corazon, Araña. She has an amazing suit that just kind of assembles over her, with huge gauntlets. She has short hair, she works out, and she has an interesting carabiner. Raise your hand if you know what that means; I am not going to tell you, you have to look it up.

After her comes the Fear Itself Spider-Man, who sits in the top left corner. A cool fact: his suit is made from Asgardian tech.

The unnamed background spiders I spotted in the mob

There is a tall, beefy Spider-Man in a black and dark red suit, and a woman in a classic red and blue spider suit holding a coffee cup. There is what I am pretty sure is a Deadpool Spider-Man. I am calling another a newspaper strip Spidey. He looks different from the negative Spidey, so I think he is a different one, and there was a Spider-Man newspaper strip that was mostly in black and white.

Another wears a big floppy sun hat that kind of reminds me of Kung Lao from Mortal Kombat. There is a Spider-Man with a laptop who is also kind of monochrome. Then comes the Spider, who is Peter Parker from Earth 15, and the Insomniac Miles Morales, walking with the Insomniac Peter in that shot.

I am calling one the Purple Rain Spider-Man. That is a Prowler inspired suit from the Insomniac games; his logo is a different color, but I think it is connected. There is a new Fantastic Four suit Spider-Man and a gray and white suited Spider-Man with interesting facial patterns on the mask.

Leg Day, Silver Surfer and the purple and teal duo close it out

One I am calling Leg Day Spider-Man is lifting a huge block in the workout gym and gets crushed when his legs get whipped out. Another, Suns Out Guns Out Spider-Man, looks like he is just going sleeveless. There is a thick blue Spider-Man with a red bib pattern on his chest, and one I am calling the Silver Surfer Spider-Man, coasting on the mob on the train. There is also a black and white one who looks like a telenovela Spider-Man, like he might be wearing a sombrero.

There are at least two or three more in this mob who I am pretty sure are not anywhere else, and I counted them as well. I end with the last two bringing up the rear because they are slow: a purple and teal duo. I love these two side by side because they remind me of the early 90s drink cup I would always get, and they always take me back.

That is it. I think I got 100 in there, or at least I got very close. Did I reach 100, and which spider people do you think I missed?
