I Think I've Figured Out Which Universe the X-Men Destroy in Avengers: Doomsday

The mysterious Earth 11127 from the Endgame Encore TVA scene may be named for a Spider-Man co-creator, and the reason ties directly back to No Way Home.

I think I have figured out which Marvel universe the X-Men destroy in Avengers: Doomsday. It may be the universe you suspect, but the answer is even more interesting than you might realise, and it hinges on a single number shown on a TVA screen.

Avengers: Endgame Encore included a new TVA sequence that was not shown in every screening. It is a scene intended as a bridge between Endgame and Doomsday, and in it we see Earth 10005, the universe of the Fox X-Men, exchanging missiles with an unknown universe labelled Earth 11127. It has taken me a week, but I think I have worked out exactly what Earth 11127 is and why it was numbered that way. The payoff comes later in this piece, once I get into the rumoured leaks.

The Russos Say the Encore Scenes Will Not Be in Doomsday, but I Think We'll See Flashes of That TVA Set

In interviews over the past few days, Doomsday directors Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed to Empire magazine, surprisingly, that the scenes added to Endgame Encore will not be in the main runtime of Avengers: Doomsday. They are bonus scenes designed only for this Endgame theatrical rerelease. The TVA scene with Mobius and O.B. is only playing on specially branded premium large format screenings like IMAX, Dolby, 4DX and ScreenX.

To me, that is crazy. It was a full scene, cast with big actors, shot with very professional camera work, scored with Alan Silvestri's music, and staged on a fancy new TVA set that would have cost something like half a million dollars to build. We have actually seen high quality set photos, and there is no green screen there. It was all practical, and it looks glorious.

However, the Russos gave that answer to the question of whether these scenes will be in Doomsday only in relation to the first scene, with Steve Rogers, Peggy Carter and Loki. Of the four, I have to say that one looks the most unfinished, with some odd visual effects on Chris Evans' face. Meanwhile, the Bruce Banner scene looks like a preshow before you board a Disney ride. While the TVA scene may not appear in Doomsday in its entirety, I do think we will see flashes of it, or other scenes set in the same location, since Marvel Studios clearly invested in building the set and paying these actors. We may cut to it while something bigger is happening at the same time.

Earth 11127 Is as Ready for Incursions as the Fox X-Men Universe

We know Earth 10005 is the Fox X-Men universe. That number has long been associated with it, and 2024's Deadpool and Wolverine confirmed it as canon in the MCU. Earth 11127, on the other hand, has never been established in any comic or any Marvel movie universe reference list.

All we really know is that this universe is as prepared for incursions as the Fox X-Men universe. It fires just as many missiles at Earth 10005 as are fired back. Other universes in the sequence, like Earth 7355 and Earth 8558, simply smash into each other without trying to defend themselves. That tells us some incursion hit Earths are caught completely by surprise, while others, like Earth 10005 and Earth 11127, have advanced multiversal defences and were somewhat ready for this.

I have also theorised that these might not be nuclear ICBMs at all, but rather antimatter weapons, or weapons designed to reverse the magnetic polarity of the colliding Earth. Or maybe they are some kind of TVA pruning weapon, armed with reset charges stolen from the TVA. Who knows? All we really know is that these two universes are ready to fight.

Earth 10005 Wins, Even Though It Was Never Supposed to Survive

We know Earth 10005 wins this conflict, because at the very end of the sequence the tree display shows only three Earth timelines remaining. Those must be Earth 10005, Earth 616, and Earth 828 of the Fantastic Four. The scenes inside the X Mansion in Doomsday trailers show the surviving Earth 10005 after this conflict, and most of the returning X-Men will appear in this Earth. San Diego Comic Con and D23 this past summer pretty much confirmed that Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will return here too.

But in Deadpool and Wolverine, we learned this universe was marked for destruction. Its original anchor being, Wolverine, died in 2017's Logan, in a death set in 2029 in that timeline. Mr. Paradox identified the universe as ready for extinction, meaning ready to be pruned fully to the void, and planned to use a device to speed that up. Instead, Deadpool found a new, drunk Wolverine and stopped Cassandra Nova from pruning every universe down to the void where she could rule as queen. Finding a new anchor spared this universe. That tells us Earth 10005 was not originally supposed to live on. Something changed, so keep that in mind.

I think we can also assume Earth 10005 is where the post credits scene of The Marvels takes place, with Kelsey Grammer's Hank McCoy Beast, Monica Rambeau, and this universe's variant of her mother, Maria Rambeau as Binary. It seems the X-Men here are somewhat familiar with the concept of incursions. But what is Binary even doing in this X-Men universe?

Is 1127 a Birthday, a TVA Code, or a Comic Reference?

The first theory to discuss is that the number references a birthday. Lashana Lynch was born on November 27, 1987, which gives you 1127, so it could be another Earth she originally came from. With respect to her, though, we do not even know if she will be in Doomsday, and I do not know if Marvel Studios honours actors in supporting roles that much.

Some have pointed out that Marvel Studios might be following the pattern of Earth 828, which referenced Jack Kirby's birthday of August 28, 1917. In that case, 1127 could reference Steve Ditko's birthday of November 2, 1927. It is not exact, since the 27 would come from the year rather than the day. If they were being exact, it would be Earth 112, but there already is an Earth 1112 in Marvel media. Maybe they tweaked it to get an original universe number that still honours Ditko, the co creator of Spider-Man.

My second theory is that it could be a key TVA designation. 1127 is three fewer than 1130, the number of the Loki variant in the Loki series who became the god of stories. In Loki season 2, episode 4, as the Temporal Loom overloaded, the announcements also kept calling out 11:27. It could be a coincidental number that feels random and specific, or maybe nothing is a coincidence and it is a kind of all is lost error code for the worst apocalyptic threat. A third theory, from a Reddit post, ties it to The Amazing Spider-Man issue 62, about the eight deaths of Spider-Man, released on November 27, 2024. I like the thinking, but I suspect that poster might be connecting dots to a Spider-Man reference for a reason. Either way, Earth 11127 is probably some past universe the X-Men destroyed in the lead up to Doomsday, and maybe they lost some of their ranks in that fight. That could be why Storm and Jean Grey are not in this movie, and why Scott Summers looks so angry and anguished in trailers.

The Rumoured Doomsday Opening Pits the X-Men Against Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man

From here I need to address some possible Doomsday plot points from rumoured leaks. We do not know yet if they are accurate, but lots of details have been lining up. It has long been rumoured that Doomsday will open with a battle between Earth 10005 and the Sam Raimi Spider-Man universe of Earth 96283, with Tobey Maguire and Hugh Jackman fighting it out, and with weapons designed by Beast and Charles Xavier reportedly obliterating that Spider-Man universe. Many believe that could be the Earth that Ned's Spidey Tracker app was pointing to in the Brand New Day post credits scene when it found a new Spider-Man in space.

It is possible Marvel Studios might just be renumbering Earth 96283 to 1127, but I doubt they would do that for no reason, because Marvel went out of its way to keep the established number of 10005, which is far more of a mouthful. "Like two zeros into that and you've forgotten how many zeros you said." Honestly, I count on my fingers every time I say it.

Theory Four: Earth 11127 Is a No Way Home Branch Timeline Named for Steve Ditko

So let's stick with the idea that it was named in honour of Ditko, born in November 1927. That brings me to theory four: 1127 is the Spider-Man universe where Tobey Maguire is Spider-Man, but a different timeline from Earth 96283. Why would it have to be different? Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the original Earth 96283, Norman Osborn died when his own glider impaled him, and Otto Octavius drowned in the river with his fusion device. In No Way Home, Doctor Strange's spell, and the way Peter disrupted it, pulled these characters from their home universe to Earth 616 right before their deaths.

The Peters then found ways to fix these villains. Peter repaired the chip that let the AI in Otto's robotic arms drive him mad, and Otto was restored enough to share a warm moment with his universe's Peter. Norman initially resisted, letting his Green Goblin side go fully evil and kill Aunt May, but by the end of the final battle Peter injected him with the cure. For No Way Home to matter, those men could not have been sent straight back into Earth 96283's history as it unfolded toward their deaths. That would make curing them meaningless. So logically, the universe they returned to must be a new branch timeline, one that Marvel Studios could fittingly name after Ditko: Earth 1127.

In that hypothetical branch, Norman and Otto would probably work with that universe's own Tobey Maguire Peter Parker, and minds like that would probably develop multiversal awareness and planetary defences to rival Earth 10005's Charles Xavier, Magneto and Beast. Would it be the same Peter who went through No Way Home? That is unclear. I feel that Peter would still return to Earth 96283, to the MJ he was married to, because his history has to be post Norman, post Otto, post everything in that trilogy as it happened. The 1127 universe would probably have its own Tobey Maguire Spider-Man. And if the scene is just Peter fighting X-Men like Wolverine for survival, they probably will not get into the No Way Home history anyway. That is all this opening scene needs: "Just action figures boom booming into each other."

Why the No Way Home Writers May Be Working on Doomsday

Figuring out the logic of all this could be why the Russo brothers brought in No Way Home screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers to help with the Doomsday screenplay, something McKenna just confirmed on a podcast.

So I think we have figured out why this Earth carries this number, and why the TVA scene will not be in Doomsday exactly as it is, because Doomsday will instead open with a cooler version of this battle shown from the ground. It is an explanation that would show a wise awareness by Marvel Studios and its writers of what they have already established across the Multiverse Saga. Doomsday truly would be the movie that makes the Multiverse Saga matter, with well defined connective tissue.

Do you think Earth 11127 is a No Way Home branch timeline named for Steve Ditko, or is the number pointing somewhere else entirely?
