Avengers: Doomsday Leaks Point to a Magneto vs Sentinel Battle, an X-Men Showdown, and a Twist Behind David Harbour's Tony Stark Line
New set photos and reports suggest Doctor Doom's face stays hidden longer than fans think, while a leaked photo appears to show Magneto restrained by a Sentinel.
There is a lot of new Avengers: Doomsday material to work through, including fresh leaked photos and a line from David Harbour, who plays Red Guardian, that has fans asking why he would even say it out loud. I think it is actually a misdirect, and here is why.
David Harbour's "You Are Tony Stark" Line Might Not Be About Doctor Doom
Harbour told Variety that when the outlet asked him for a little line from the movie, he delivered it completely out of context, going into the Russian accent, pointing, and saying, "You are Tony Stark." On the surface that sounds like Red Guardian is reacting to seeing Doctor Doom's face and realizing it looks exactly like Tony Stark, which set fans off immediately.
I do not think he is saying it to Victor Von Doom or to a variant of Tony Stark at all. I think he is saying it to Reed Richards. Once the Fantastic Four reach Earth-616, both Avengers teams (the new Avengers and Sam Wilson's Avengers) are going to be there too, as we already know from the Thunderbolts post-credit scene and the trailers. When the Fantastic Four start explaining everything, I think the way they talk about Reed Richards leads Red Guardian to say that line to him, maybe thinking Reed is Tony Stark from another world who just looks a little different.
That reading lines up with what multiple insiders have said about Doom's face barely being shown in this film. He reportedly does not take the mask off much, and when he does, he is alone in his chamber, not around anyone else. That fits who Victor Von Doom is: once the monks burn that face onto his mask, he says it is the last time people will see Victor Von Doom, and he does not want it seen again. We do see him remove it in the Fantastic Four post-credit scene, but I do not think anyone sees that he looks like Tony Stark until very late in this film or in Avengers: Secret Wars. Multiple insiders, including John Campea, have reportedly said we are never going to see his face in Avengers: Doomsday at all, that it is being saved for Secret Wars.
A Leaked Photo Shows Magneto Held by a Sentinel
A lot of leaks are surfacing right now involving Loki, the TVA, Spider-Man, and Wolverine, but the one I want to start with is a photo of Magneto being held by a Sentinel. The good news is that the special look trailer already shows Magneto in a sling after the Sentinel fight, so even if one of them crushes his arm a little, he survives.
I am curious what these Sentinels are made of if Magneto cannot control them, since you would expect them to be metal. It is possible this universe has already adapted its Sentinels to not be made of metal specifically so Magneto cannot control them, but we will have to wait and see.
I really love this photo because the struggle is always what makes these movies work. We already saw Thor go up against Doom in the trailers and not defeat him right away, which I hope is building toward Rune King Thor, since heroes have to grow and evolve to become stronger. Doom raising the Sentinels against the X-Men is going to be epic and insane, and while most of them reportedly survive, we are hearing that not all of them do.
A Leaked Scene Reportedly Shows the Avengers and X-Men Clashing on Arrival
Sticking with Avengers versus X-Men, there is an AI recreation of a scene going around from accounts that have reportedly been accurate about a lot of reports so far. They say this scene is in the second act, when the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and Doctor Doom first arrive in the X-Men universe. It shows the Fantastic Four's ship arriving with Reed Richards, Yelena Belova, Sam Wilson, and Shang-Chi aboard, essentially three team leaders in one place, with Doom in the background. I do believe Doom is there.
There already looks to be some damage when they arrive, and it does not look like everyone is on the ship, so this may be debris from an incursion they already carried out on another Earth. As they get close, missile launchers rise out of the ground and start firing on the ship. It looks like Sam Wilson is flying it, which makes sense since Ben Grimm is the usual pilot and he is not there. We know Ben is in Wakanda handling something back on Earth-616, and not everyone goes to the X-Men universe. Reed is shown yelling at Sam as they take fire.
As I have said before, the X-Men are used to dealing with incursions, so they automatically assume any new arrivals are there to destroy their universe, which is why they open fire. Doom jumps out of the ship, flies briefly, lands with green magic coming off him, and appears to destroy some of the rocket launchers. The recreated scene ends there, but we have heard that Nightcrawler teleports inside the Fantastic Four's ship afterward, everyone ends up fighting inside the X-Mansion, and something eventually makes both sides stop, whether that is Professor X reading someone's mind or somebody simply asking for a pause. Monica Rambeau, last seen with Hank McCoy after The Marvels' post-credit scene, could be the one to vouch for the new arrivals, though there has not been much word on her role in this film. It is also possible Steve Rogers and Thor are the ones who show up and stop the fight.
Leaked Photos Suggest Loki Sends Steve Rogers to the Fantastic Four, Then Dies
A batch of new leaked shots involves Loki, the TVA, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man. They are hard to make out and are being taken down quickly, but in one of them Loki appears to be speaking with someone, which tells me he is going to play a genuinely important role rather than a background one.
I think one of these scenes shows Loki talking to Steve Rogers and moving him over to the Fantastic Four's universe, handing him the card we have already seen in the trailers. My guess is that when Steve later meets Thor, he tells him he saw his brother, Thor says that is not possible, and they decide to go see Loki together since something this big, potentially multiversal, is worth checking on him.
Unfortunately, I do think the TVA gets destroyed and that Loki might die, though I think everybody who dies in this stretch of the story ultimately gets resurrected by the end, just without their memories. Some will say that removes the stakes, but losing your memory is still a significant loss. I think Steve and Thor arrive to find Loki dead or nearly dead and learn Doom did it, then return to the X-Men universe to rejoin the Avengers and tell everyone Doom is the villain, which is where the trailer line from Thor, "You'll beg for hell long before I granted it to you," comes from, aimed at Doom for apparently killing his brother.
Secret Wars May Send Wolverine and Spider-Man Looking for a Powerless Loki
If all of that holds up, it looks like Avengers: Secret Wars has Wolverine and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, and possibly Deadpool, going on a mission to find Loki on Battleworld. From what we are hearing, Loki is resurrected there without his memory and, seemingly as a result, without access to his powers.
Spider-Man and Wolverine reportedly already know Loki because he saved them from an incursion in Sam Raimi's world. On their search they find Doom's prison, where Steve Rogers, Sentry, and one more person are being held. I think that third person could be Reed Richards, since it would make sense for Doom to want the smartest man alive locked away from Sue, Franklin, and everyone else. It is unclear at this point whether Steve, Sentry, or that third prisoner still have their memories.
This lines up with a wave of leaked photos showing Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine fighting in what is believed to be the opening scene of Doomsday. The film seems to want us to think they die there, but with the TVA and Loki apparently involved, I think they are saved instead. Once they reach Battleworld, I think the priority becomes finding Loki and figuring out how to unlock his memory, and I think Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, Tom Holland's Spider-Man, possibly Sadie Sink's Jean Grey, and maybe the Hulk are the team that helps with that so they can all eventually fight Doctor Doom.
What do you make of the Reed Richards theory behind Red Guardian's line, and do you think Loki really dies before Secret Wars?
