Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 6 Brings Back Jessica Jones and Hints That Luke Cage Could Be Working for Mr. Charles

Fisk buries Vanessa, the city turns on its mayor, and a brutal fight with Matt Murdock ends with Kingpin daring him to arrest or kill him

The Cosmic Wonder (AI-assisted)29 September 2026 · Editor: Digital Fox Talent Editorial Team 4,750 words · 22 min read

Spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 6 follow. Jessica Jones is in the MCU, teaming up with Daredevil and Matt Murdock, and she heavily hints that Luke Cage is out there somewhere, possibly working for Mr. Charles, which is what I think is happening. When this episode arrived in April 2026, I also thought it was setting up Matt Murdock, attorney at law, returning to the courtroom in the next episode.

Kingpin's grief over Vanessa turns straight into violence

The episode confirms Vanessa's death at the very start. I know some people still thought at the end of the last episode that she could be alive, or that they might resuscitate her, but that did not happen. The opening shots carry a lot of symbolism. Kingpin sits with his head in his hands, crying, but the focus of the shot is the wedding ring. When he turns to her, notice that he does not grab her hand. He places his hand next to hers, the ring emphasised again, because holding it is too much for him.

Season 1, and especially season 2, deal with trauma, guilt and PTSD and how people cope with them. That matters for a number of characters, including Kingpin, Daredevil and Dr. Glenn, who I really do believe is going to become the next Muse. There is more evidence of that in this episode. Speaking of how people deal with pain and loss, the next scene has Kingpin killing the doctor who, in his eyes, failed to save Vanessa. The doctor probably would have been fine if he had not approached Kingpin at that exact moment, while he was weeping, to offer his own style of condolences. That clearly angered him more than anything.

This tells us something important for the end of the episode and the two that followed it. Kingpin does not care anymore. He does not care who he kills, what he does or who he angers. If he wants to kill somebody, he is going to kill them. Before he leaves, he finally accepts that Vanessa is gone and kisses her on the head, which is basically his final goodbye. He also knows Buck is there to take care of things after he makes a mess. But I think Kingpin is slowly going to lose the people around him, which will cause him to spiral further.

Fisk betrays Mr. Charles, and Powell tracks down the leak

Speaking of spiralling, Mr. Charles walks in to collect the weapons that are supposed to be his under his deal with Kingpin, only to find them all gone. Kingpin has betrayed him and gone back on the deal to arm his own people, the AVTF. While they are loading the weapons, we see the officer who gave Daredevil the card that let him break into Kingpin's Red Hook facility. Powell is looking at him like he already knows. They clearly have logs of which cards access which doors, so I assumed Powell had searched them and found his name.

By the end of the episode, we find out that Powell does indeed know, and he kills the officer. Before that comes Vanessa's funeral, and I really like that as Kingpin leaves and opens the doors, a very bright light pours out over the coffin. This is symbolism again. It is like when people say not to walk into the light because that is death. This is Vanessa going into the light. You can also read it as her going to heaven, and whether she deserves heaven or not is a completely different debate, but it is very symbolic.

Vanessa's comics death plays out very differently

Vanessa does die in the comics, but not the way she does in the MCU. In the comics, she and Fisk split up and she leaves New York. She returns when she finds out their son tried to kill Fisk. She ends up killing her son Richard and takes Kingpin away so he can heal, but she does not stick around, because she knows he will be furious when he recovers. She then contracts a terminal illness and tries to get her affairs in order and resolve her debts. She goes to Daredevil and confesses a lot, including that she was behind Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk getting arrested by the FBI, as well as faking Foggy Nelson's murder.

As much as I would really like to think Foggy is alive and they faked his death in the MCU, I do not think that is the case. The second season makes way too much of a point of mentioning that Bullseye did kill Foggy. In the comics, what happens after Vanessa dies is that Kingpin loses his emotional anchor and becomes more ruthless. He becomes a big crime lord again and is driven by vengeance, which is exactly what I thought we were in for in the final two episodes.

Jessica Jones returns with a daughter, and the clues point to Luke Cage

Then we cut to the return of Jessica Jones, and she does indeed have a daughter. Not much is revealed in that first scene, but when she next meets up with Daredevil, we get information that I think confirms Luke Cage is the child's father, and that he, along with some other Defenders, is going to return for season 3. When she shows up, Matt's senses detect that she is hurt, but she tells him she is angry: "They showed up at my house, Matt." She calls him Matt because she knows who he is from everything in her own series and The Defenders on Netflix. Then she adds, "They showed up at my house with my daughter there," confirming that the girl is her daughter if there was any doubt.

There are two more things. She specifically says "after Danielle", and Danielle is the name of her and Luke Cage's daughter in the comics, which is more confirmation that it is Luke Cage's baby. She also says this Charles guy came looking for her and others like her, Daredevil and Luke Cage. "People like us" is what she says. She told him to go away, but not everybody she knows did. She pauses for a while, looking off into the distance as though it is very personal, and Daredevil picks up on it: she is talking about Luke Cage. It could possibly mean the other Defenders as well, like Danny Rand.

In this specific case, though, I think they just told us that Luke Cage and Jessica are together and had a daughter, Danielle, who we saw in the opening scene. The Defenders were very heavily rumoured to be returning in season 3 at the time, and there were photos out there, so this was pretty much the big confirmation we had all been waiting for.

A wet team from Mr. Charles, and Jessica's unreliable powers

There is another important detail in this scene. When Matt asks whether she is hurt, she reveals that she made some calls, and it was not the Task Force that came after her but the people of Mr. Charles, who is very tight with Kingpin and is government. We already know he works for the CIA and with Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. She says Charles sent a wet team to her house, and either she is rusty or they are very good. Matt hears that she is breathing differently and thinks she probably cracked a rib. She tries to play it off as something that happens, but Matt says, "No, not to you," because she has super strength and superhuman durability, or at least she is supposed to. She explains that after Danielle's birth, her powers sometimes drop out and then come back.

We see that in the next scene. They meet at that location because Fisk moved the guns from Mr. Charles there, and Daredevil hears the watch he put in the container back in the first episode. At first she clearly has her powers: she kicks somebody straight through a wall and throws a container at an AVTF officer with her bare hands. Then comes an epic fight, with Daredevil throwing both billy clubs and swinging around on one like Spider-Man, just as Jessica kicks a big bomb that explodes and engulfs much of the facility in flames. She punches an officer a long way, but when she goes to punch Powell, she hurts her hand. Her powers have gone. Powell knocks her down, and Daredevil comes to the rescue as they escape.

Her origin on screen differs from the comics. In the comics, it is somewhat like Daredevil's: she was in a car crash with her family, they hit an army truck transporting chemicals, and that gave her powers. In the Jessica Jones series, she is in a car crash, assumes her family are all dead, and is experimented on by IGH. The doctor there saved her life but experimented on her, and that is how she got her powers.

In that series, her powers vary. She resists being a superhero at first, and her PTSD and emotional state seemingly affect her abilities. Sometimes she stops a car with just her foot, then struggles to fight a normal person. It seems there is a bit of that going on in the MCU now, with having a child affecting her powers. I was sure we would get more on Luke Cage soon, because based on what she said, it seems like he is working for Mr. Charles.

Matt tries to save Bullseye, and Karen pushes back

Backing up a little, Daredevil and Karen bring in help to patch up Bullseye, because Matt is genuinely trying to save him now. That puts a big rift between them. They are told Bullseye needs a hospital, but Matt says that would sign his death warrant, because the AVTF would kill him there. Karen suggests that maybe that is what they should do. Interestingly, Matt says what happened was an accident and does not fully blame Bullseye for Vanessa's death. I guess that is technically true, because Bullseye was there to kill Kingpin on Daredevil's behalf, since Daredevil cannot bring himself to do it, but I am pretty sure he was going to kill Vanessa too either way. Still, it shows Daredevil thinks redemption might be possible for Bullseye, which I think leads to a Bullseye and Daredevil team up.

Angela Del Toro tells Karen that many civilians are angry, not only at Bullseye but at Fisk and the AVTF. More people are being taken and disappearing, the resistance has started, and they plan to make a stand at the vigil, which becomes very important later.

The rift keeps growing. Karen says, "Remember what happened at Clinton Church." That is Daredevil season 3 on Netflix, where Bullseye, dressed as Daredevil, killed Father Lantom, tried to kill Karen and Foggy and badly hurt Matt. Matt said then that he would kill Fisk, Karen stopped him, and now she says she was wrong. One of the most important things she says is, "What if this doesn't end until one of you goes down?" Matt replies, "I can't think of it that way," and this eventually leads him to confront Kingpin. As he leaves, he says, "Vengeance isn't justice." That is why there are two sides to him, Daredevil and Matt Murdock the lawyer. He still holds on to justice and the system, even though the system basically does not exist right now, and he hopes they can remove Kingpin and bring justice back. It is not up to them to take lives.

The governor pulls her support, and Sheila's path to mayor opens

After the funeral comes something really important. The governor tells Sheila that she only backed Kingpin because she trusted Vanessa to keep him in check, and with Vanessa gone, she is pulling out. She is going to revoke the Red Hook charter, which takes a huge amount of power away from Kingpin. She then raises the idea of Sheila running for mayor. Sheila says she cannot handle a campaign, and the governor asks what if she does not have to.

Thanks to the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, we know Sheila does eventually become mayor, because we see her give the key to the city to Spider-Man. That means vigilantes are allowed back on the streets; they clearly are not illegal anymore, or one would not be getting the key to the city. So Kingpin clearly gets ousted as mayor in either the next episode or the finale. It was kind of a big spoiler from that trailer, but I think we all assumed Mayor Kingpin would not last long.

A canary trap puts BB Urich in danger

Daniel does not really trust BB anymore, but he still likes her, and she remembered his birthday, so she works her way back in a little. He reveals he is spending his birthday with his mother, and BB asks to come along. Then Buck tells Daniel that he and Kingpin think BB is the leaker. Daniel defends her but has no evidence, so Buck wants him to run what he calls a barium meal test, otherwise known as a canary trap. It is popular in real life, in books and in movies and shows. It is a way to expose a leak by giving out different versions of information, or false information, and seeing whether it surfaces. If the false detail shows up on the underground Kingpin report or anywhere else, they know it came from BB.

As they are about to take the ferry to his mother's house, Daniel gives BB the false information: Kingpin is not going to run for another term. At the house, BB bonds with his mother and goes into his room to get a feel for what he was like as a child. She was going to send a text leaking what she believes is real, but she promised Daniel she would not, so she deletes it. She has come to really like him, even going in for a kiss later. Unfortunately, Daniel has been suspicious the entire time. He finds the SD card in her jacket and says, "This is the next City Without Fear broadcast, isn't it?" He is basically telling her that he knows, that Buck knows too, and that he does not think he can protect her anymore.

I think this sets up a few possibilities. The one I thought least likely is that BB dies, with Daniel himself killing her as a big twist. As Buck said, he is in now: he has to keep doing things for Kingpin, and Kingpin will look after him in return. Since Kingpin killed her uncle Ben Urich, it would be pretty wild to see Daniel kill her. The other options are simpler. Buck could go to kill BB and Daniel could kill Buck first, or Daniel could refuse to give her up and Buck could kill him. A fourth option is that Buck kills both Daniel and BB.

Mr. Charles turns on Kingpin

Mr. Charles calls Kingpin to complain that they had a deal and he went back on it. Kingpin barely speaks and essentially tells him to get lost. That is not a good move, because Mr. Charles then goes to the governor and says he will take care of her mayoral problems. Kingpin made an enemy he really should not have made, and I believed this would result in him leaving office, possibly with Mr. Charles even using enhanced individuals like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and maybe Iron Fist against him. That was something to wait and see on, but either way, it seemed we had all the evidence we needed to say Kingpin would not be mayor after season 2.

Heather Glenn's scenes point toward Muse

A scene with Buck and Dr. Glenn further convinces me she is going to become Muse. First, she steals Vanessa's earrings, granted because she had developed a bond with Vanessa. But as she looks at herself in Vanessa's three mirrors, the camera tilts, showing that she is becoming crooked, so to speak, or unstable. We already know she is crooked from the trial in previous episodes. The tilt and the sound that accompanies it are definitely implying she is going to turn very bad.

Then she tells Buck she has been through a lot because Muse tried to kill her, and he says, "Well, do to me what he did to you," apparently thinking it will help her. In psychology, that is basically reenactment, or repetition compulsion, where somebody recreates traumatic events to try to process them. It is usually unconscious, whereas here it is very conscious. What they are really showing is that Heather is changing because of her trauma and PTSD from what Muse did. I think she actually enjoyed choking Buck, and that performing physical violence will probably become her way of being okay, ultimately turning her into Muse.

Bullseye thanks Karen as she prepares to shoot him

Karen kicks Bullseye awake, and his reaction is interesting. He realises he is being held down, looks around, startled, and tries to get free. The instant he sees Karen, he calms down and stops moving so much. That is not because he thinks she will not hurt him, but because he would rather die at her hands than be tortured by Kingpin. Nobody wants to be tortured, of course, but across the last episode and this one he also talks a lot about balance. He killed Foggy, so he would be fine with Karen killing him. It is just an equation, he says. Karen looks like she is actually going to do it, and right before, he even says, "Thank you."

This tells us he is tired of everything. He had a very unfortunate childhood, then the FBI basically made him a fall guy, then Kingpin manipulated him, killed the girl he liked, made him work for him and broke his spine. It was put back together, and we still did not know what metal was infused into his spine in the MCU, maybe Adamantium like in the comics. He went to jail, only for Vanessa to offer him a deal, got out, killed Foggy and was nearly killed by Daredevil. He is stuck in a terrible loop, and now he is trying to make everything balance again, which includes being okay with dying. I think this points to him possibly turning over a new page. Maybe he does want to be good, which could lead to him working with Daredevil and perhaps becoming a Dark Avenger or part of a new version of the Thunderbolts. I think Marvel sees that everybody is loving Bullseye, so I would not be surprised if he sticks around.

Matt saves him right as Karen pulls the trigger; you hear the gunshot go off as his billy club hits her hand. Then they have what I call the basic Batman and Peacemaker conversation: Batman puts people in jail, they break out and kill more, so it is better to kill them. That is Karen's stance, and Peacemaker's, but not Matt's. He starts to question who she is now, asking, "What happened to you?" Considering everything Karen, Matt and Foggy have been through, how she feels is pretty understandable, and her fear that it will not stop until one of them is dead does hit Matt.

Karen's broadcast turns the city against Kingpin

Matt goes to Kingpin's secret base, while Karen joins the resistance at the vigil right outside Kingpin's place. She mentions that the first mate of the Northern Star never made it into police custody and that her source never aired the file she gave them, which means both are probably dead. So she goes to air the testimonies herself. This is where a lot goes wrong for Kingpin. As he looks out his window at the city turning against him, Buck arrives with news that the governor is going against them and the charter letting Kingpin use Red Hook as a sovereign free port will be revoked. He is losing Red Hook and is going to be kicked out of office.

Karen plays the testimonies of people captured by the AVTF, and when she starts, notice the red light shining on Kingpin, more symbolism representing Daredevil. We hear people saying, "I was arrested and thrown into a cage for weeks. I wasn't given a lawyer." Some even say he arrested them to take over their assets. After seeing this, the crowd puts on masks and Daredevil cowls. It is the turning point; they have had enough.

Buck says to open fire if needed, but Powell has another plan. Knowing the officer gave his card to Daredevil, he kills him, blames it on a vigilante and uses that to push the crowd back with lethal force. Cole seems very taken aback. Since Agent Cole returned, I thought he might have ulterior motives and actually be one of the good guys. I was not sure that was still the case, but he seems to have more of a moral compass than Powell, or perhaps he ends up turning on Kingpin. Unfortunately, amid the rough treatment of the crowd, Karen is caught by Powell. I think that explains the scenes in the season 2 trailer with Matt Murdock back in the courtroom. It seemed obvious to me that he would represent Karen Page at trial once he found out Kingpin had her, teaming up with Kirsten to go to court.

Kingpin rejects Matt's truce and nearly crushes him

Buck gets Kingpin to a secret base, where he sits before the painting he originally bought from Vanessa, still stained with blood from his previous fight with Daredevil. Daredevil has been waiting, prepared to fight but hoping to reason with him first. The shot of Daredevil approaching, with his shadow putting horns on Kingpin's head, is so cool. Matt now accepts what Karen said: this will end with one of them dead, maybe more people they love too. He tells Kingpin the fight is no longer about New York but between the two of them, and has already cost them Foggy and Vanessa. His offer is simple: "I leave, you leave." But Kingpin is at his lowest point and replies, "There's nothing you can give me or take away." When Matt asks him to imagine if they had never met, and mentions Vanessa, it sends him over the edge.

I love this fight. It starts with Kingpin in full rage, no rhyme or reason, swinging with all his might. This is not tactical boxing; it is him spiralling out of control trying to kill Daredevil, so Matt easily dodges. But once Kingpin grabs him, it sounds like he is crushing Daredevil's bones, and Matt cries out in pain. Kingpin is not really fat; he is huge, and in the comics basically pure muscle, insanely strong, and they show that here. One punch sends Matt to the floor, and Kingpin throws him by the leg into the painting, ripping it. That pulls Kingpin out of it for a moment as he realises the painting from Vanessa is ruined and she is gone, and then his anger spikes again.

The really cool part is that this mirrors the final episode of Netflix's Daredevil season 3. The blood on the left side of the painting is Kingpin's, from when Matt was beating him in that finale. Now it is the opposite, with Daredevil's blood on the other side. When Matt separates his billy clubs, Kingpin punches one head on and sends him flying backwards. He then aims at Daredevil's head, misses and obliterates a stone pillar. It hurts him, but imagine if Daredevil had taken that to the head.

After they batter each other, I love how it ends. Kingpin says, "So, what are you going to do? Arrest me? You cannot." At that point he is still mayor, vigilantes are still illegal and he runs the AVTF. Then he says, "Kill me? You will not." He knows Matt Murdock, the man behind the mask, and knows he will not kill him. That has been the point of the recent episodes with Matt and Karen: Matt does not believe he is judge, jury and executioner. He believes in justice through the system.

I was sure big fights lay ahead in the last two episodes, with Jessica Jones confirmed to return in another episode, probably the finale. I did love this episode. So which fate do you think awaited BB, Daniel and Buck?
