Avengers Doomsday Leaks Point to a Guardians of the Galaxy Return and a Possible Bucky Death Scene
Two reported plot leaks suggest the Guardians arrive to help defend Earth, while Bucky may get a full circle farewell line lifted from the first Captain America film.
Two new leaked scenes for Avengers Doomsday are making the rounds, and if these reports are accurate, one is something a lot of people have been hoping for while the other is going to hit fans right in the heart. I have to issue a spoiler warning before getting into any of this, because if these reports are real, we are talking about some genuinely big spoilers for Avengers Doomsday.
A Reported Leak Claims a Ship Carrying the Guardians of the Galaxy Enters Earth 616
The first leak builds on earlier reports but with more specifics this time. According to that report, "You're going to be very surprised when you see a ship entering Earth 616," which lines up with Rocket, Groot, Cosmo, and Adam Warlock arriving in Avengers Doomsday. A lot of people have been wondering what is going on with the Guardians of the Galaxy in this movie, and according to that report, most of them are reportedly going to return specifically in Doomsday, not Secret Wars.
We already know Star-Lord returns in some form, and leaked concept art has shown him in Avengers Secret Wars alongside Vision, with Vision Quest apparently leading into both Doomsday and Secret Wars and setting up Vision and Star-Lord becoming buddies. There is a lot to think about there, including whether they end up leading the Young Avengers, teaming up as friends, or even remembering their past selves if they are on Battle World.
If we think about everything that has been set up, this makes sense to me. We were told at the end of Thunderbolts that some kind of space crisis is happening, though it is not clear if that refers to actual incursions, ships from other universes like the Fantastic Four's, or something happening within their own universe. Either way, if the Guardians know Peter Quill is on Earth and something is going down, it would make sense for them to show up to help him and defend Earth again, just as they did after Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame.
There have been previous reports that the Guardians, including Karen Gillan's Nebula and Mantis, were going to return, and with Doomsday and Secret Wars both trying to go bigger than Infinity War and Endgame, it tracks that the team most fans love would be back in action. There was also a report at one point about a big battle in New York at Avengers Tower where all the heroes team up to defend it, though we have since heard that scene might have been cut during reshoots, so we will have to wait and see if it is still in the film.
Star-Lord May End Up on Reed Richards and Ant-Man's Life Raft Ship
I think Vision Quest is going to bring us into something significant with Star-Lord. Reports suggest that toward the end of Avengers Doomsday, some characters escape, with Reed Richards and Ant-Man reportedly working together to turn Reed's Fantastic Four ship into essentially a life raft, a detail pulled from the comics where there are two life rafts, one from the Ultimate Universe and one from the main Earth.
It makes sense to me that Star-Lord would end up on that ship with Vision in some form, along with the Young Avengers, since it sounds like a fail safe Ant-Man tells his daughter Cassie to use if Doom cannot be defeated and the universes collapse into each other. In the comics, the life rafts go outside the multiverse into the quantum realm so their passengers survive when everything is destroyed, eventually landing on Battle World, though they are not awakened until years later. I think something similar could play out here, with Star-Lord on one of the life rafts in Secret Wars while the rest of the Guardians stay behind to help fight. I really hope this report is accurate.
Bucky Reportedly Gets a Full Circle "End of the Line" Death Scene
The second leak is emotional, and I am not sure how everyone is going to feel about it. It might be the end of the line for Bucky. This is something we have heard multiple times before from insiders who have been considered pretty legitimate, and it seems like Bucky is indeed heading toward being done with the MCU, which lines up with Sebastian Stan reportedly moving over to DC and the MCU planning a reboot that would likely require recasting Captain America and, by extension, Bucky.
The new report centers on an iconic line Bucky may say to Steve as he is dying or right before he dies, one that goes back to the first Captain America film and then to The Winter Soldier. Bucky is reportedly going to say, "This is the end of the line for me, buddy," or possibly "pal," echoing back to when Bucky told Steve before he got the super soldier serum, "I'm with you till the end of the line, pal." Steve later says the same line to the brainwashed Winter Soldier to try to awaken him, so bringing it back here would close that loop.
I think that kind of full circle moment is something the Russo brothers do very well. I pointed to Avengers Endgame as an example, where Iron Man's suit was built to channel Thor's lightning, a callback to the very first Avengers film when Thor accidentally overcharges Iron Man's suit with lightning. It is a small detail you might miss, but I think the Russo brothers are really good at taking things from the past and making them relevant again later, and there is a lot of room to do that in Doomsday given how many legacy characters are involved, including the reported opening with Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man alongside Wolverine and Deadpool fighting the X-Men as they try to destroy his universe.
This one would genuinely be emotional for me, given everything Bucky and Captain America went through across phase one of the MCU and his return in Thunderbolts. It would be a real bummer if he dies. Given Stan's move to DC and the MCU's reboot plans, I think this might actually happen, and if it happens before the end of the story, he might not get resurrected afterward, since we have heard there will unfortunately be some permanent deaths, with Bucky among them. I have seen comments online with people joking, "If this happens, we riot," though obviously nobody is actually storming Marvel's doors. I do think it would be a good way for Bucky's story to end if this is really how it plays out.
Claims of a Leaked Full Doomsday Screener Are Reportedly Not True
There is also a report going around about a supposed full leak of Avengers Doomsday online, described as a "2160p screener only video, no audio." I do not know if whoever claims to have it is threatening to release the footage, something we have seen before with Spider-Man Brand New Day, where people threatened to leak the entire film if a trailer was not released, and we have indeed seen leaked trailers for both Brand New Day and Doomsday before their official release.
What we have seen for Doomsday specifically, though, has been unfinished scenes, not a full screener. Getting an actual 2160p screener out would be very hard given how strict studios are about screenings, checking for phones and other recording devices. According to multiple insiders online who have commented on the situation, this particular leak claim is not true, and to my knowledge and theirs, the full movie is not actually online.
I think that is a good thing. Hearing about individual scenes that have a chance of being true is fun to speculate about, but knowing the entire movie in advance would take away from seeing it on the big screen for the first time, especially in a version with no audio.
Are you excited about the Guardians of the Galaxy possibly returning, and how would you feel if Bucky does not make it out of Avengers Doomsday?
