Avengers Doomsday Leak Claims Dr. Doom Is Destroying the Multiverse, Not Saving It
New reshoot details and plot leaks suggest Robert Downey Jr.'s villain has been the one wiping out universes all along, setting up a devastating cliffhanger ending.
Avengers Doomsday is reportedly going all out on both its opening and ending scenes, and from what I'm hearing, the ending connects directly to a specific moment in the trailer that, once you line up the dots, points to a much bigger reveal about what Dr. Doom is actually trying to do.
Heavy Reshoots Are Reportedly Locking In the Ending
Reshoots are underway right now, and apparently they're heavy reshoots for the ending, though not to change the story. From what I understand, they're being done to make sure every scene needed to make the ending land is actually in the can.
An insider described it this way: "They're still cutting Doomsday like the last 10 minutes have to launch a whole other movie in which, you know, they do Avengers Secret Wars, where we believe, and pretty much know at this point in time, it's going to all take place on Battleworld."
Dr. Doom's Real Plan May Be Destruction, Not Salvation
What we've been hearing in leaks up to now is that Doctor Doom has been trying to save the multiverse. I think that might have been true at some point, but by the time we get to Avengers Doomsday, his plan has changed, and it isn't just about revenge, it's about remaking everything exactly how he thinks it should be.
In the version I'm piecing together, Doom goes to Reed Richards and tells him an incursion is coming, that it's happening across the multiverse and the multiverse is basically going to be destroyed. They pick up Steve Rogers from another universe, then go to Earth-616 to warn the Avengers that their world is colliding with the X-Men's universe and that the three universes need to be separated. That's what he tells them, but I don't think it's actually his plan.
Instead of letting the multiverse collapse on its own, which is what it has been doing, I think Doctor Doom is the one causing the destruction himself. He may have tried to save it when he first discovered the multiverse, but I think he eventually realized he couldn't, and realized a lot of the heroes had caused the problems in the first place. I also think he learned about the TVA and about Kang and about everybody manipulating the multiverse, and decided that if anyone was going to control it, it would be him.
The "Did You Do This?" Scene Points to Doom as the Puppeteer
I think it eventually comes out that Doom has destroyed countless universes to get what he wants, and that's what I believe Reed Richards is confronting him about in a specific scene, asking, "Did you do this? You know, tell me. Answer me, Victor. Did you do this?"
My guess is this happens after Stephen Strange and Thor get back, possibly from the TVA, where whether Loki is dead or alive, or maybe Mobius is there, they discover the TVA has been destroyed and that it's Doctor Doom's doing. Someone there explains that Doom has been the one destroying universes all along, that he's the puppeteer behind everything, which lines up with the leaked photos of Doom playing chess using pieces representing the Avengers.
I don't think this is limited to our world's Avengers either. There are Avengers of other worlds and X-Men of other worlds involved, not just the versions appearing in this film. When Reed asks "Did you do this?" I think he's asking whether Doom set up the destruction of the multiverse, not whether Earths simply drifted into each other on their own.
Doom Is Reportedly Provoking the Final Incursions to Force Battleworld Into Existence
Reports say Avengers Doomsday is going to end on what's being called the most devastating cliffhanger in MCU history. Plot leaks suggest Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom doesn't just want to destroy the multiverse, he is actively provoking the final incursions between the X-Men's Earth and Earth-616.
I actually think the X-Men's Earth gets destroyed somewhere in the middle of the movie, which would explain why the X-Men turn up in the Fantastic Four's universe, the 828 universe, at the Baxter Building. By the very end, I think Doom is provoking the final incursion between 828 and 616 specifically to force the creation of Battleworld.
Doom Reportedly Collects Loki's Powers, the Darkhold, and a Team of Villains
I think Doom spends the film collecting power. That could mean taking Loki's powers, maybe getting hold of the Darkhold, maybe even the "word of God" book that's been floated. I also think he ends up with some of the Scarlet Witch's power. We've heard Doctor Strange is going to perform a spell for Doom, which fits with Doom gathering powerful people and removing anyone in his way to build the world he wants, centered on Latveria with his castle, the rest made up of broken fragments of universes he has already destroyed.
That may also explain reports of Doom leading a team of villains. My guess is he's been traveling to different universes recruiting villains and promising them a better future. That isn't confirmed, but as I put it, "that would be a very Doom thing to do," and we do know Battleworld in the comics is divided into territories run by villains. Some might challenge Doom and lose, others might decide it's better to join him and rule their own corner of the new world than fight a losing battle.
On Loki specifically, I think Doom drains his power. Loki is currently the god of stories, something Marvel has reportedly confirmed on its own podcast covering the road to Avengers Doomsday.
Doom Reportedly Rewrites Reality and Wipes Memories in the Final Battle
The final battle currently being filmed, and reportedly being pushed to be more epic than anything Marvel has done, is a massive fight involving the Avengers trying to stop Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange from creating Battleworld. It's a combination of powers and artifacts, with Doom physically destroying the multiverse and then forcing it together in one magical act.
I think everything ends up destroyed, with Doom the only one left standing, before he makes exactly the world he wants, resurrecting people and wiping their memories so they become who he wants them to be. He believes that's enough for him to live happily, but that's reportedly not where the story ends.
Survivors in the Void and Quantum Realm Reportedly Set Up Secret Wars
Some people are said to end up in the void, others in the quantum realm, with the idea of "life rafts" keeping certain characters outside space and time so Doom's reality rewrite doesn't touch them, until they eventually find a way to Battleworld.
I believe Loki, seeing Doom coming, prepares a backup plan, which is where Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine come in, along with some of the Young Avengers, though I don't think they team up until Secret Wars. Those might be the post-credit scenes, showing that some of these heroes are alive, which is what I've been hearing.
From there, they reportedly seek out Loki. According to the leaks, nobody remembers what happened, so Loki may lack his powers either because his memory is gone or because Doom drained him. The goal becomes recruiting a massive army to go up against Doom, since the heroes already couldn't beat him once, and that scale is part of why Secret Wars is expected to go even further than Doomsday.
James Marsden Describes a Collision of Three Universes
James Marsden recently teased Avengers Doomsday, saying: "It's an absolute collision of three gigantic universes coming together in the face of a very serious existential threat. You're seeing time on screen. You're seeing these characters from 27 years ago in new costumes with new intentions and intensities."
Three universes is really the focus for Avengers Doomsday, while Secret Wars is expected to cover far more since Battleworld is meant to be built from many different universes. I think Doomsday will still have some strong cameos, but I expect the bigger wave of surprise appearances to land in Secret Wars instead.
The way this ending is reportedly being built, Doom becomes both destroyer and creator, while the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four fail to stop him. Rather than simply dying, they're said to be wiped from existence and recreated by Doom without any say in who they become, which is reportedly the intense note Marvel is going for.
What do you think Reed Richards is really asking Doom in that "did you do this" scene?
