Leaked Avengers: Doomsday Trailer 4 Unites Wakanda, Talokan and the Fantastic Four
Shuri walks a desert in a new Black Panther suit, Namor's army gathers on the surface, and M'Baku meets Ben Grimm as an incursion looms
The fourth trailer for Avengers: Doomsday leaked online, the same way the earlier trailers leaked before they played in theaters ahead of the Avatar film. This one shows two worlds coming together: the Wakandans, the people of Talokan and, yes, the Fantastic Four. The leaks describing a scene in a desert turned out to be true. It's an intense sequence, but there's some comedic relief in there too, because it's an Avengers film and it's Marvel.
The official X-Men trailer also released online the same day. Coming off that, I thought this one would be underwhelming. It isn't.
Shuri walks the desert alone in a gold and blue Black Panther suit
The trailer opens in a desert, with Shuri in a new Black Panther suit that is gold and blue. It looks good. This is a great look for the Black Panther suit. She's walking alone, which is interesting in itself.
She says, "I've lost everyone that matters to me." I find that funny, because as the trailer goes on she ends up with M'Baku, so it's almost as if she's saying she doesn't care about him. Of course, she's talking about the loss of her brother, T'Challa, and her mother, who was lost in Wakanda Forever, along with many other people lost in the attack from Talokan.
Namor and the Talokan army gather on the surface
Right after that line, the next shot shows the people of Talokan on the surface, with what looks like their whole army there and a big temple in the background. It almost looks as if the city was underwater and then the water disappeared, leaving it on land. It could also just be a temple on the surface in the desert.
Either way, the people of Talokan look a little out of place here. I think that's because they're getting ready for war. As the shot pans across them, we see Namor sitting on a throne, looking very concerned.
That's something I noticed across a few of these scenes. Shuri and Namor both look very concerned, and I think this is related to Doom. Namor looks up, and it looks like both armies are preparing for a war that is coming. As he appears on screen, Shuri says, "A king has his duties to prepare our people for the afterlife. I have mine."
Namor looking up may point to an incursion
Namor looking up makes me think about the reports that Shuri will be one of the people, if not the main person, who discovers an incursion is coming to their Earth. He could be wondering whether another Earth is about to collapse into theirs, and whether another universe is about to collide with this one.
My read is that Shuri goes to Talokan along with others, I assume the Thunderbolts, the Avengers and the Fantastic Four, and tells them she needs their help because not just their world but their entire universe is about to be destroyed.
That is one of the biggest elements of Avengers: Doomsday, and it has been set up in Multiverse of Madness and other projects such as Loki. Incursions are a huge part of the comics as well. There, time runs out leading up to Secret Wars, the incursions happen and the entire multiverse is destroyed. Doctor Doom is the one who saves something and creates Battleworld.
M'Baku and Ben Grimm meet in a scene I find cool
Shuri is then seen walking with M'Baku, who also has a new suit. These new suits are lined with blue, and they look cool. I think that might be something given to them by, or taken from, the people of Talokan. Maybe Namor gave them some type of element, or maybe it's a special type of vibranium that goes into the suits. I'm sure it does something, but we don't know exactly what.
A gift from Talokan would make sense, because the two nations are working together in this scenario. Again, I think that's because Wakanda went to Talokan and said it needed their help.
Then comes a scene I find cool. M'Baku walks up, introduces himself as M'Baku of Wakanda and extends his hand. Ben Grimm, in his Fantastic Four outfit, answers by giving his name and a street address. When I first heard about this trailer, I didn't think it would be this cool.
The final shot of Shuri may match an earlier leaked photo
The last shot is of Shuri looking very intense. She nods her head yes and appears to give the Wakanda Forever salute, and that's the trailer. She gets into a ship.
What's interesting is that I think we've seen this ship in a leaked photo before. That photo had John Walker, US Agent, in it, and it's believed to show another member of the Fantastic Four as well as the Wakandans. When the photo first leaked, people said part of it looked like Shuri's foot.
So it looks like the new Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts and the Wakandans are going to come together. Now we've seen it in this trailer, and aesthetically everything looks cool.
Doctor Doom and an incursion clock drive the reported story
The reason all of this is happening is Doctor Doom. We know the Fantastic Four come to our universe. Whether Doom presents himself as a hero at first or goes straight into being a villain was unknown at the time. What we did know is that ultimately everybody is going to learn Doom is a villain, and that incursions are going to happen.
From what we had heard, Shuri, Reed Richards and Beast from the X-Men universe come together because they're the brightest minds. Reed is the smartest man alive in his universe, Beast is probably the smartest in his, and Shuri is that person in ours. Together they reportedly create a device that works as a countdown clock to when the incursion will hit our universe, and probably theirs too, as they all collide.
Based on reports we had heard in the past, Shuri is the one who figures out that the incursion is happening for Earth 616. From there, she works with the Fantastic Four and some of the X-Men, and they figure things out.
A battle at Wakanda could mean an attack from another Earth
This is the big part of the trailer, I think. We've also heard that a big attack happens at Wakanda, so Doom is essentially going to invade Earth and there will be a big battle. At least, that's what we think.
I think it might be something else. The comics explain that the center of each universe is Earth, though we don't know whether that's true in the MCU. When universes collide, it's the two Earths from each universe that collide with each other. In the comics, the only way to survive an incursion is to destroy the other Earth.
That might be what we're in for. These armies might be preparing for the people of another Earth to attack them, and that could be why Namor is looking up into the sky. He might be expecting an attack from above when that other Earth comes into play. It's a cool premise, and I hoped they would include it in Avengers: Doomsday. It looks like that is what's happening.
Talokan and Wakanda stand together with the Fantastic Four
We have the people of Talokan working with the Wakandans, which is not where we left off in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, depending on how you view it. It's a big thing, and the Fantastic Four are there with them. We assume the X-Men are there as well, given the reports about Beast and Shuri working together.
The Thunderbolts, the Avengers, everyone is coming together and preparing for something big, because both armies are there as if they're ready for an attack. I was sure some of our heroes would go off to the TVA and some would try to fight Doom, while there would be some type of invasion at Wakanda that these armies are preparing to fight. Whether that's Doom's armies or other heroes, or possibly villains, from another Earth, it all feels big.
More trailers were rated, with the Super Bowl as my guess for Doom
This is the fourth trailer, and fifth, sixth and seventh trailers had also been rated at the time, so more were coming. I believed we wouldn't get the first official teaser trailer, our first official look at Doom, until the Super Bowl, but that was a wait and see situation.
I went in thinking this trailer wouldn't seem like much after the X-Men trailer, which was pretty good. Instead, it feels big, it feels good, and it feels cool as well.
