Avengers: Doomsday Reshoots Reportedly Zero In on a Post-Credit Twist Involving Loki
New Spider-Man writers are said to be reworking scenes as insider reports point to a big cliffhanger tied to Tom Hiddleston's character.
Marvel is reportedly doing reshoots for Avengers: Doomsday right now, and word is they are focusing on a very specific scene, the post-credit scene. On top of that, Marvel has once again brought in new writers for the film, and this time it's the Spider-Man writing team.
Spider-Man Writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers Are Reportedly Helping Write Avengers: Doomsday
I covered this in an earlier piece, but Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are reportedly now helping write Avengers: Doomsday. Some people pushed back on that, asking how writers could still be shaping a film that has already been filmed for the most part. The answer is that Marvel Studios has confirmed reshoots are happening right now, which means some scenes are changing.
It sounds like these reshoots could specifically involve the writing of that post-credit scene. Kevin Feige has said we are going to be very satisfied with the ending of Avengers: Doomsday, but from what he said, it sounds like we are going to be left on something of a cliffhanger, with fans having a hard time waiting to see what happens in Avengers: Secret Wars.
An Insider Report Claims Tom Hiddleston Was Back for Reshoots Tied to a Loki Twist
A new insider report says there have been multiple reshoots for Avengers: Doomsday, and that Tom Hiddleston was there for them. I like this a lot, and I suspect a lot of people will too, because it lines up with a bigger twist that has reportedly been in the works. This is an insider report, so we are unsure if it is accurate, but it does line up with what has been reported before.
What we had heard before was that Doom kills Loki, or at least the film makes us believe that Doom killed Loki. My guess is that Marvel is going to lean on this trick a lot, similar to how the opening scene reportedly makes it look like Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man dies, only for him to return later. That ties directly into this post-credit scene, since we have heard that Thor and Steve Rogers show up to find a dead or dying Loki.
I am really hoping that is just a trick and that Loki turns out to be alive, appearing in that post-credit scene. It would make sense for a trickster and the god of mischief to pull something like that. I like hearing that Hiddleston was brought back for reshoots, because we had also heard there was not going to be too much Loki in this movie, which surprised me given everything his character went through across two seasons of his own series. I really want to see Thor and Loki reunite, and I was really hoping Loki would be heavily involved.
My Theory: Loki and the TVA Could Be Secretly Rescuing Heroes Like Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man
If Marvel does make it look like Loki is dead and then reveals in the post-credit scene that he is alive, my thinking is that he has had a plan the whole time. As the god of stories, he was holding everything together, and I have believed since the shift to Avengers: Doomsday that the multiverse was going to get destroyed, with Loki, tied to everything and able to see what is coming across the branches, putting together some kind of contingency plan and his own team.
This connects to something that was reportedly originally planned for Deadpool and Wolverine, where the TVA was going to travel to different universes to collect nexus beings, or anchor beings, to save them from incursions. My theory is that this is what happens behind the scenes in Avengers: Doomsday. Loki either goes himself or sends people from the TVA, maybe Mobius, to collect people, and I think Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man could be one of those rescued.
So the film would make it seem like Spider-Man died, when actually the TVA and Loki saved him. Then the same thing happens with Loki himself, appearing dead before that post-credit scene reveals he survived, ideally alongside other people he has assembled himself, essentially his own version of an Avengers Prime team. I think that would be a great way to set up Avengers: Secret Wars.
Doctor Doom Reportedly Addresses His Council and Declares the Multiverse Beyond Saving
Moving to Doom's followers, there is reportedly a new scene where Doctor Doom addresses his council in Avengers: Doomsday. He reportedly declares that the multiverse is beyond saving and that when his plan is complete, only one reality will remain. Based on what we know so far, Doom wins and forms one world, one universe, most likely resulting in some version of Battleworld with Doom as its ruler.
Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, addressed the character's mindset directly, saying, "Yeah, that's what Doom believes. Doom believes he's the hero. So, the people who are going to follow him also believes that he is the hero and the person that is going to save everybody." That framing matches how the story reportedly unfolds in the comics' Time Runs Out arc that leads into Secret Wars, where Doom tries to save the multiverse before realizing it cannot be saved and instead creates and rules over a single universe.
The report describes the scene presenting Doom at the height of his power, delivering a chilling speech that sets up a major clash between his council and Earth's Mightiest Heroes as the battle for the fate of the multiverse begins. I picture this playing out in Latveria, in Doom's own castle, as he tells his followers this is happening his way, promising them power and territory while framing the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four as the ones trying to stop the one path to salvation.
Doctor Strange and Wanda Maximoff May Stand With Doom in the Final Battle
I believe, and I think a lot of people share this view, that Doctor Strange ends up on Doom's side, mirroring the comics. When Doom explains that the multiverse is falling apart and cannot be saved, he asks Strange if they should save something, and Strange agrees. Later on Battleworld, when Reed Richards, Spider-Man and others confront him about effectively endorsing Doom, Strange admits it outright, saying Doom is very good at playing God.
My guess is Avengers: Doomsday follows a similar path, revealing that Doctor Strange is following Doom, possibly alongside Wanda, with Clea also present. I think there could be some striking variants involved as well, since the final fight is shaping up to be an enormous set piece. The footage we have seen in trailers, in my view, is not the final battle but more likely the middle stretch where the X-Men universe first clashes with Doom.
We have also heard that Thor prays to Odin and receives the Odin Force, with warriors from Valhalla joining the fight, yet nothing seems to be enough, and even variants showing up may not match Doom. That is because he reportedly has powerful figures behind him and may be drawing on additional power himself, possibly from the Darkhold, which has already shown up in merchandise depicting Doom holding it. All of this points to a final scene built around a genuinely big twist regarding who stands with Doom, though my own guess remains Doctor Strange and Wanda.
What do you think that post-credit scene with Loki could show, and who do you think is standing behind Doom in that final battle?
