Avengers: Doomsday Reportedly Tests Higher Than Endgame After Reshoots Add a New Post-Credit Scene
Insiders say the reshoots are done, a freshly filmed post-credit scene was shown at a test screening that reportedly scored higher than Endgame, and the Scarlet Witch may have a much bigger role than expected.
It looks like Marvel might have just shot a new post-credit scene for Avengers: Doomsday, and it looks like that scene has already been shown to a test audience who reportedly loved it. According to one insider, that screening scored higher than Avengers: Endgame.
There are a lot of new reports here, from the reshoots wrapping to which characters have been added. A very interesting one is a reported post-credit scene involving one character a lot of people already expect to show up in Doomsday in some capacity. Now it seems like she could be there in a much bigger way.
Avengers: Doomsday reshoots are reportedly done, with the Hulk, Spider-Man and Captain Marvel now in the mix
The first report is that the reshoots are finished. Scenes have been added, and so have characters. These are characters we had not really been hearing about before, and now insiders are saying they are indeed going to be in the movie: the Hulk, Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Captain Marvel. I know a lot of people are going to be really excited to see them actually be in Avengers: Doomsday, and I think their inclusion just makes sense.
Daniel RPK says, "Doomsday reshoots are officially done." He adds that they included one scene that will make a lot of people happy. Even though he is talking about a single scene, I think they have of course added multiple scenes to this movie, based on everything we have heard. He is specifically pointing to one scene he thinks fans are really going to enjoy, and I think this might be the post-credit scene, because of what came out next.
A test screening reportedly featured an unfinished Doomsday post-credit scene and scored above Endgame
One insider says a source reached out to her with good news: "While there was a feud, it has been resolved and there are currently no issues with Doomsday." You might have heard reports of drama on the set of Avengers: Doomsday. It is hard to tell sometimes, because I feel like that report comes out about almost every Marvel movie at some point. Sometimes it is not a feud at all, just an effort to get past some creative differences. Whatever the situation was, it seems to be resolved.
She goes further: "In fact, another test screening was held also featuring an unfinished post-credit scene that was just filmed. You're probably going to hear all about it soon from the trades and such." She also states that the movie scored higher than Avengers: Endgame. I will say that I have recently heard myself that people are very confident with it, and that is all I can really say about that. I am excited from what I have heard as well.
This new post-credit scene is different from what we had heard before. When I went over the big plot leak earlier, I deliberately held back the post-credit scenes so I could cover them separately alongside these new reports.
Wolverine and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man are reportedly alive on Battleworld
According to that leak, there are supposed to be two post-credit scenes. The first centres on the life raft survivors. Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man are reportedly revealed to be alive on Battleworld, functioning as part of a resistance group, with their memories from before the collapse completely intact.
We have heard about this one before. The idea is that Marvel is going to make it seem like the pair have died at the beginning of Avengers: Doomsday, because at this point we pretty much know the opening scene involves the two of them. A world is basically going to explode, and it will look like Wolverine and Spider-Man have died, only for the post-credit scene to reveal that they are in fact alive, if this is accurate.
Another report says the final battle would take place in Latveria, with the heroes facing an army of Doombots. It also mentions the possible death of Bucky at the hands of Doctor Doom. The two reported deaths in Doomsday are Bucky and Shuri, and whether they come back is something I will get to below.
The Scarlet Witch reportedly returns with a secret team of surviving multiversal heroes
The second reported post-credit scene is one a lot of people have been talking about, and I have to say I like it a lot. It reveals that the Scarlet Witch, alongside a secret team of surviving multiversal heroes, is alive. We have heard multiple reports about this at this point.
She is reportedly going to be revealed with a group of people following her. I would not be surprised if it is Tom Holland's Spider-Man with Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. Maybe the Hulk is there. Jean Grey is one name that has been thrown out a lot as somebody who is supposed to be with her. It is supposed to be a pretty cool scene with a pretty cool group of people, which I think would make a lot of sense.
It does throw us a bit of a twist, though. Is she one of the followers of Doom? Is she one of the witches? That is what we have been hearing and what we have thought. We have seen the witches, but their faces are covered by masks. Maybe she is not one of them. Maybe they are Clea and Sylvie, or maybe Agatha is one of them.
My theory: Wanda makes herself immune to Doom's creation of Battleworld
Or maybe she is one of the witches, and something happens at the end of Avengers: Doomsday that we just do not know about yet. My theory is that she puts something in play so that whatever spell ends the multiverse and creates Battleworld, whether Doctor Strange or Doom casts it, she makes herself immune from it as part of a plan to come back and eventually beat him.
I think there is going to be a point in the movie, very similar to the comics, where Doctor Strange, the Scarlet Witch and people in general realise there is no stopping what is about to happen. So they all go along with Doom's plan. But I would not be surprised if the Scarlet Witch put something out there, whether a spell or a rune, so that in the next world she could gather a group of heroes, including the people who have been resurrected, and actually go up against Doom. "I bet I'm somewhat accurate about that, but that's just my theory."
Why the Scarlet Witch post-credit scene could explain missing characters
It would be fantastic if the Scarlet Witch showed up. That might mean she is not in much of the movie. She still could be one of those witches, and at the end they could show us that she has switched sides and is good now. Or it could mean she is not in the movie at all, and the scene is Marvel reminding us not to forget about these characters.
The Scarlet Witch, Tom Holland, the Hulk and Jean Grey might not be in the movie itself, but may have come back for these reshoots to film the post-credit scene. That would make a lot of sense. If you watch the entire movie and wonder where all these characters are, the post-credit scene could answer that. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the third biggest movie of all time right now, so people will ask where Spider-Man is, along with Jean Grey and the Hulk. Maybe the Scarlet Witch had a plan the entire time. We do not know, and that is the fun of all of this.
An insider says only characters killed by the incursions get resurrected
One insider was asked whether, based on what he knows about Secret Wars, Bucky is dead permanently or gets resurrected with some of the other characters. His answer is that characters who die a natural or true death will not be resurrected on Battleworld. Only those who die because of the collision of the incursions will be. For example, if Shuri dies because Doom rips her head off, she will not be resurrected, but if she dies because the universe is destroyed in the final incursion, she will be.
This is actually how I thought it was going to go down, and I have said it before. I think everybody who is there at the end and dies because of the incursions gets resurrected, because Doom is basically going to resurrect what is in front of him. Unfortunately, that means if Bucky goes up against Doom before the incursion happens and dies, he might not come back. Same thing with Shuri.
Why losing Bucky and Shuri makes sense from Marvel's perspective
I think Marvel might be doing this on purpose. Kevin Feige has said they are eventually going to recast Captain America, which I think would probably mean recasting Bucky too. Plus, Sebastian Stan is going over to DC, and I am really excited about that. I am sad to lose Bucky, but based on what they want to do, this makes a lot of sense, because we are probably going to need a new Bucky.
We know a new Black Panther is coming because Marvel Studios has already announced it. We believe it is T'Challa Jr., or at least that is what they made it sound like. If it were just the normal comics T'Challa with a sister named Shuri, would they make this Shuri his sister or recast and tell a different story? If that is the case, Shuri dying would make sense. Otherwise it seems more simple: Letitia Wright could stay on in the MCU, knowing this T'Challa is her nephew, not her brother. We will have to wait and see.
Getting rid of these two characters is sad, but I think it makes sense from Marvel's perspective. I do not really want to see it happen. Bucky is definitely one of my favourite characters, Shuri has really stepped up, and it has been an emotional ride with Black Panther. The good news is that whatever they have added, which I believe is that post-credit scene, people reportedly love it, and Doomsday is apparently testing better than Endgame. That is surprising to think about, though I actually hold Infinity War a little higher than Endgame.
Do you think the Scarlet Witch is one of Doom's witches, or has she been planning to take him down all along?
