Avengers: Doomsday Report Points to an Epic Magneto Versus Doctor Doom Fight

A fan theory about the teaser trailer codes, a reported clash between Ian McKellen's Magneto and Robert Downey Jr.'s Doom, and a Valentine's Day post that may hint at Sue Storm

A report claimed that Sir Ian McKellen's Magneto would clash with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. It described the fight as "The most epic fight in the film and maybe ever in the MCU." I think this part is incredibly cool, and it's something I want to see out of the movie. It also ties into rumors that Magneto is viewed as the villain at the start of the film. Alongside that, a fan believed they had cracked the cryptic codes the Russo brothers put at the end of the Doomsday teaser trailers. Robert Downey Jr. also shared a Valentine's Day post that I think could be a tease about Doom and Sue Storm.

A fan theory claimed the Doomsday teaser codes were countdowns

The cryptic codes at the end of the teaser trailers had people trying all kinds of things to figure them out. Some people thought they meant nothing. Others believed they were codes. According to one person's theory, they were true countdowns. These countdowns weren't to the movie, though. The theory claimed each flashing code counted down to February 17th, and each teaser carried a different countdown.

According to the theory, the first trailer was released on December 23rd, and its countdown translated to 1 month and 24 days. The Thor teaser came on December 30th with a countdown of 1 month and 17 days. The Cyclops and X-Men teaser arrived on January 6th, with a countdown of 1 month and 11 days. The Wakanda and Talokan teaser with the Fantastic Four came on January 13th, with a countdown of 1 month and 4 days. A thank you message for over 1 billion views also had a countdown, and that one translated to 1 month and 1 day.

At the time, I didn't think a trailer would drop on that date, but perhaps Marvel would do something. I wasn't getting my hopes up. Still, if the math was correct and the decryption was correct, February 17th might have meant something for Avengers: Doomsday. Many people sent the theory to me, and I wanted to put it out there in case it turned into something. Kudos to the person who worked it out, but it might not have been anything at all. I expected it to be nothing so I wouldn't get my hopes up, and if something did happen, it would be a pleasant surprise.

Marvel was reportedly waiting on the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer

For the trailers, we were hearing that Marvel Studios was waiting for Spider-Man first. That isn't entirely up to Marvel. The studio is in partnership with Sony, so the decision is not 100% Marvel's call. According to many different insiders, Sony had been pretty indecisive about when it wanted to release the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer didn't release until four months before that movie came out.

The report says Magneto versus Doctor Doom is the film's most epic fight

The fight between Magneto and Doctor Doom is where things start to get interesting. We had been hearing rumors and rumblings that Magneto is viewed as the villain at the beginning of the movie. That connects to the Thunderbolts post credits scene. Based on the reports we had heard, the ship the Fantastic Four arrive in carries more than the Fantastic Four. According to many different insiders, Doctor Doom is with them, along with Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, Captain America.

Doom is reportedly coming to the 616 universe with the Fantastic Four and Steve Rogers. To me, that points to Doom not being the villain at the beginning, or at least not being perceived as the villain. Doom is the villain of Doomsday, obviously. Inside the MCU, though, the characters won't know that at first. It does seem like Victor Von Doom comes from the 828 universe.

If he already knows Reed and Sue, and he's going to them for help, it won't appear that Victor is the villain. As far as we knew, it wouldn't be like that at the beginning. So Doom needs to depend on somebody else to play that part. Based on everything we were hearing, Magneto is the perfect person for it.

Reports suggest the X-Men have already survived multiple incursions

We had heard many reports that the X-Men have already gone through multiple incursions. It does seem like the film is taking a page from the comics. There, they have to destroy the other Earth so their own Earth and universe can survive. We had heard plenty about this already. Sir Ian McKellen went on live television and talked about how he was going to destroy New Jersey. He described filming the scene where he destroys New Jersey, along with a bunch of other things.

It was funny, because you can tell some of the older X-Men actors don't have the same media training that the newer MCU actors do. We know Kevin Feige has a sniper on everybody, and those actors are told very specifically what they can and can't do. That seems to be different for Ian McKellen. I'd say he doesn't seem to care as much. Or it's done on purpose. Playing devil's advocate, this could be part of a marketing plan Marvel Studios has had for a while. Either way, we do know that Magneto is going to destroy New Jersey.

I think Magneto's power makes it easy to paint the X-Men as villains

If you take a page from the comics, or from what we saw in X-Men '97, Magneto has the ability to disrupt the Earth's magnetic poles. He can manipulate magnetic fields and cause natural disasters. So he has the ability to destroy universes.

Earlier, I had discussed a possible opening scene of Wolverine and Deadpool fighting Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, with the two of them possibly sent there to destroy that universe. Some people asked how exactly they would destroy a universe. I don't think those two particularly would. The X-Men can, because they have an immense amount of power, and Magneto himself can destroy an Earth by affecting all of its magnetic fields and poles. The X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday can do that, maybe with Magneto alone. Add everybody else, plus some technology that may be used to help destroy the other planets, and it's easy to see how they could be viewed as a big threat.

It's easy to see how Doom could simply say, "These guys are the bad guys. They're destroying multiple universes out there. And now they've caused incursions and all of our universes are in jeopardy." Magneto is their leader. They also have another leader in Professor Xavier, who can use psychic abilities. Then there's Cyclops, who I always call the field leader, because I'm waiting for Cyclops to take that leadership role in live action and be done right. It wouldn't be hard to peg Magneto and the X-Men as the villains, and that seems to be where the beginning of the movie is leading.

I think Monica Rambeau will be the one to stop the Avengers versus X-Men fight

We know we're getting an Avengers versus X-Men scene, and that the Avengers are going to go to the X-Men's universe. Since the X-Men have been through many incursions, they're probably going to assume this other team has come to destroy their universe to save its own. If Magneto is painting the X-Men as the villains for everything, the Avengers are going to get there and start fighting. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I think Monica Rambeau is going to be the person who says, "Stop. Both of you are good. Stop." I think she'll be the one who makes them all stop, and then Doom will finally be revealed as the villain.

That's a lot, but this is reportedly only the beginning of the movie, and much more comes after it. Eventually, Doom is either going to reveal himself, or somebody like Loki is going to reveal him as the villain. Thor and Loki are going to reunite, or at least that's what it sounds like based on what Chris Hemsworth said. He said it's going to be very powerful and emotional, and it makes sense story-wise. I'm assuming Loki can see everything Doom is doing and tells everybody that Doom is the bad guy.

Whether you think what the X-Men are doing is morally good or bad, they are saving themselves. I'm curious to see how they would come to the decision to destroy another universe to save their own. You'd imagine people like Cyclops or Professor Xavier would have an issue with that. Then again, when there's another Earth in the sky about to destroy yours and it's them or you, you make a decision. Maybe they're saving some people. Who knows. Hopefully the TVA is saving many heroes from universes that are about to be destroyed and creating a multiversal Avengers of its own, which we've heard is going to happen in some shape or form.

So a lot is probably going to happen within the first 30 minutes alone, which is great. Many different insiders said this movie is going to be nonstop action, starting off with a bang and not letting up. I was excited about this.

Robert Downey Jr.'s Valentine's Day posts may tease Doom and Sue Storm

For Valentine's Day, Robert Downey Jr. shared some pictures on Instagram. Once again he shared a picture of Doctor Doom and Iron Man, again implying there is probably a big connection between the two. There's a reason Robert Downey Jr. is playing Victor Von Doom instead of a new actor. They probably chose him specifically because there is a big connection to Tony Stark and Iron Man. One post was a funny one where Doom says, "A peanut cluster just for me," with a red heart and a green heart for Iron Man and Doctor Doom. Another showed a bouquet of flowers with Doom's face on them. Others showed chocolates with Valentine's crossed out so they read happy Dooms Day.

Then he shared one of Doctor Doom with a sleeve pulled up, flexing. On his bicep is a heart with the name Susie over it. If I'm not mistaken, Susie is the name of Robert Downey Jr.'s wife. But this could also be a reference to Sue Storm. We've seen the leaked concept art for Avengers: Doomsday, in which Doctor Doom sits on a throne. On one side of him is Doctor Strange, or Sheriff Strange from the comics. On the other side are Sue Storm and Franklin Richards.

In the Secret Wars comics, Doom replaces Reed. He takes his family and becomes the husband to Sue and the father of Franklin and Valeria. He takes Reed's life, and that becomes a big point when he and Reed first confront each other. So the post could be for his wife. But there are no pictures of him or his wife in this set. As far as we can tell, it's all related to Doomsday. So I think this indicates that Doctor Doom is probably going to like Sue Storm in Avengers: Doomsday.

We did hear a rumor that, in another universe, Doom once had his own family. That rumor said his wife was Sue and his son was Franklin. Franklin was his son, not Reed and Sue's son with Doom arriving after the fact. If that is the case, and his universe was destroyed, I'm assuming he'll probably have feelings for the Sue of the 828 universe when he sees her and will probably want her. Even though she's not exactly the same, I'm sure that will come into play somewhat. Namor is also reportedly going to be attracted to Sue, which is in the comics as well, so there might be a love square or a love triangle depending on which way they go. I do think this is Robert Downey Jr. possibly teasing Doom and Sue, since we've seen that leaked concept art.
