The Leader's Warning in Captain America: Brave New World's Post Credit Scene Points to an Incursion
Sam Wilson's visit to the Raft foreshadows heroes from other worlds and the road to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
The post credit scene of Captain America: Brave New World has the Leader, locked away in the Raft, warning Sam Wilson that other worlds and their heroes are coming. As I read it, he has seen an incursion heading for our Earth. That scene has a lot of serious implications for the future of the MCU, specifically for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. When I wrote this in February 2025, both of those films were still ahead.
The Leader ends up in the Raft after Captain America: Brave New World
Captain America: Brave New World ends with the Leader being caught and put in the Raft. The Raft is a super maximum security prison for superpowered individuals, and sometimes for not so superpowered individuals. Our Captain America, Sam Wilson, was in the Raft after the events of Captain America: Civil War, and he doesn't exactly have superpowers, as the film points out many times.
Throughout the film we learn about the Leader's powers. He is obviously super smart, but he can also calculate the probability of everything. When we get to the post credit scene, it is revealed that he knows a lot more than what is happening on our world. The scene is Sam Wilson visiting the Leader in the Raft.
The Leader tells Sam that the others are coming
Sam opens with "told you you were going to lose that bet." The Leader asks whether Sam wants to know what's funny. Sam says he is not in the mood for jokes. He tells the Leader that he killed a lot of good men trying to get his revenge, and that they don't share the same sense of humor.
The Leader answers: "we share the same world don't we this world you would die to save it's coming I've seen it in the probabilities I've seen it plain as day." He goes on: "all you Heroes protecting this world you think you're the only ones you think this is the only World we'll see what happens when you have to protect this place from the others." What is happening here is major foreshadowing of the future of the MCU in the Multiverse Saga, specifically for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
Incursions have already been set up across the Multiverse Saga
The Multiverse is a huge part of the MCU, and the MCU has introduced incursions to the mix. An incursion is when one universe collides with another. In Marvel Comics, when that happens, the two Earths at the center point of both universes are the ones that collide. Keep that in mind, because it becomes very important later in this piece.
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we saw a universe that had been destroyed, and the Illuminati told us that their Strange caused an incursion, the death of an entire universe. Across Loki season 1 and season 2, we saw a lot of different universes and what could have been. Deadpool and Wolverine also showed us different universes and different variants of characters. There are essentially infinite universes out there, and that is what the Leader is saying: we are not the only world, and another one is coming.
The Leader is warning Sam about heroes from another Earth
What is interesting is that the Leader is talking about our heroes specifically having to fight heroes of another Earth. That is what he means when he asks whether they think they are the only ones. Other universes have other Earths, and heroes protect those worlds too, both variants of the heroes we know in the main MCU and new heroes we have never seen. We have already seen other universes with the X-Men and the Fantastic Four in them, and who knows who else.
His final line is about what is going to happen between our Earth and another Earth, most likely in Avengers: Doomsday. I believe he is specifically talking about the heroes of these other universes, but also about other universes in general. What he has seen is an incursion coming for our specific Earth, the 616 universe's Earth. Our universe is going to incur with another universe. That is part of what he has seen coming. The other part is the war.
Destroying the other world is the only way to stop an incursion
When two universes collide, it is the two Earths that hit each other, and once they do, both universes get destroyed. There is only one way to stop an incursion, and that is to destroy the other world. That is what the Leader is saying is going to happen: when an incursion hits our world, the heroes of the other world are going to try to destroy ours.
This is a big morality point in the comics. A lot of heroes believe that yes, you have to destroy other worlds to keep yours alive. Then some, like Captain America in the comics, say no, we can't do that.
Secret Wars ends with Doctor Doom creating Battleworld in the comics
At the very beginning of Avengers: Secret Wars in the comics, the entire Multiverse gets destroyed and all that is left are two universes. Those worlds collide, and everybody from each world starts fighting for the survival of their own world. Ultimately, neither world survives, and both universes get destroyed.
In one universe, a good Mr Fantastic has created a life raft and saved everybody he thought would be necessary to rebuild civilization and the human and mutant races. In the other universe is an evil Mr Fantastic, the Maker, who has Thanos and some other villains with him. The Maker also built a life raft, so both groups survive.
Since the entire Multiverse is essentially gone, Doom tries to save something. He creates Battleworld out of the remnants of about 40 or so worlds, and that is how Doctor Doom becomes a god in the comics. He gets the powers of the Beyonders, godlike beings who wanted to destroy the Multiverse in the first place, and he saves what he can: one single world, Battleworld.
The Deadpool and Wolverine universe could be the other world
That is what I believe the Leader is referring to: an incursion between our world and another. That other world could be the universe we saw in Deadpool and Wolverine. At the time of writing, we knew Deadpool and Wolverine were going to be in Avengers: Doomsday, we knew Doomsday was going to be a big multiversal film, and we knew the other X-Men were in that universe, along with who knows what other characters. To bring them together with people from our universe, an incursion between those two universes would make sense.
A big battle seemed to be coming, based on what the Leader said. He specifically mentioned other heroes and said they are coming, and I'm betting they are coming to destroy our world to save their own. We had already dived into the Multiverse a lot with Deadpool and Wolverine, Multiverse of Madness and Loki, but in February 2025 my view was that the destruction of the entire Multiverse and the rise of Doctor Doom were next, as set up by this post credit scene.
Did this post credit scene get you excited for the multiversal films it sets up, from the Fantastic Four film to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars?
